Story
Meet Proud Mary, a mature female bully mix. We suspect Mary is staffordshire terrier / bull terrier mix because of her large rabbit ears. After months in a Georgia shelter, Proud Mary was just two days from euthanasia when our rescue agreed to take her, and this silly loving girl has been lounging in comfort ever since. Mary is a lap dog at heart and lives for an invite up onto the couch and a belly rub. Mary does not bark excessively inside the home though she will ‘talk’ to you when she wants attention. She loves morning walks, snacks and rolling in the grass. Mary would do best in a fenced yard or with an owner committed to daily walks though at 9 years old now, they don’t need to be very long. Mary is ‘barrier’ reactive (barking) and would not enjoy dog park visits. While Mary loves kids, we do not recommend her for a household with small children as she may easily knock them over. The BasicsAge: 9 yrsWeight: 55 lbsSpayed/Neutered: YesMicrochipped: YesVaccines Up-to-Date: YesOn Heartworm Prevention: YesHouse-Trained: Yes (perfect)Crate-Trained: YesLeash Skills: Needs work when excitedMedical: Clean bill of health from vet. Almost Home believes that every animal deserves a loving home regardless of appearance, age, or physical limitation.  We have come together to give animals in need the safe and happy life they all deserve.  Almost Home Animal Rescue believes that no animal is expendable.  Adopting a friend:The animals, lucky enough to find refuge with Almost Home, are all in loving foster homes. If you are interested in the possibility of giving one of the animals a new lease on life, please contact us. The contact information is listed at the end of each biography.  What you need to do to adopt:If you would like to adopt a pet in need from Almost Home, basically, an application must be filled out. We will check two personal references and a vet reference. If you are approved for adoption, there is a trial period of about one week to make sure this is the animal for you and you are the person for the animal. Along with the trial period, a contract must be signed that basically states that if ever you cannot keep the animal that you must return the animal to Almost Home. Last but not least, a home check will be done. Meet & Greets:An approved application is required. This does not mean that you have to adopt but that you are approved to do so if everything works out. Since we are foster based, this limits the amount of people coming to our homes.  Hi! My name is Gracie! I'm a darling girl that ended up in a not so good situation but I am one of the lucky few that ended up being rescued by a very nice lady. I am just a big love bug. I really want to be by my people and have physical contact. Cuddle, cuddle, cuddle! I love other dogs, kitties and kids! I would be ever so happy to have an active family that goes to dog parks, hiking and walks. I do great in a car too! I'm a one year old young lady. I'm perfectly house broken and I know basic commands. I'm very smart. I would be a great watch dog. I am protective of my family and property at times. Hey! You know you want to cuddle with me! Just look at my face! It needs some kisses! Love,Gracie *Guest Posting If you would like to meet your new best friend, contact the Adoption Coordinator at 865-236-0830. Please fill out a foster application on www.almosthometn.org. If you can't get it to work, let us know and we will email it to you in a different format.ADOPTION FEE: The adoption fee for a cat is $85. The adoption fee for a kitten is $100. The adoption fee does include the kittens being fixed and their rabies shot when they are old enough through one of our local vets. The adoption fee for a dog is $200. The adoption fee for a puppy is $250. The adoption fee does include the puppies being fixed and their rabies shot when they are old enough through one of our local vets. Mature pet adoption fees are sometimes reduced. The adoption fee for pure bred dogs and cats will vary due to health and age of pet. This helps support our ill animals and our mutts that get left in the system longer. We do reserve the right to change the fees higher or lower due to the circumstance of the animal but what was stated above are the usual adoption fees.  Microchipped pets will have a higher adoption fee.  Our adoption fees do not cover the cost of the vetting and care the animal has received with us and if it ever does, the money just goes back it to helping other animals in need. November 1, 2024, 8:13 pm

I’m about three to five years old with a heart full of energy and love, just waiting to find the perfect family. I absolutely adore kids—running, playing, and getting all the belly rubs are my favorite things in the world! If you’ve got a yard or love going for long walks, I’ll be right there beside you, ready to run, jump, and enjoy every moment. I’m an active girl who would thrive in a home where playtime and fun are part of everyday life. There’s one small thing you should know: I’m not the best around chickens. For some reason, they just get me all worked up, so a chicken-free home would be the best place for me. Now, I’m not asking just for me. My best friend, America (she doesn't like chickens either), is also looking for a home, and we’d love nothing more than to stay together. We’ve been through so much, and America is my partner in crime—our bond is strong, and we make the perfect pair of loyal companions. Our situation has become urgent. The shelter in our area had to close down after the director was fired, leaving us and many other animals in a state of emergency. Thankfully, a kind lady is letting the community use her property as a temporary refuge, but we can’t stay here forever. We need a safe, permanent home where we can continue to thrive and love our humans. If you’re looking for a loyal, playful, and loving dog (or two!), I’m your girl. Whether I come with America or find a new home solo, I promise to fill your days with joy, laughter, and so much love. Please, if you can help me in this time of need, reach out. I’m ready to find my forever family and start the next chapter of my life. Story
My name is Gage, and I'm a 3 1/2-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier mix with a handsome brown and white coat. I'm a sturdy fellow, weighing 53 pounds. I've been neutered and vaccinated. I'm house (potty), crate, and leash trained. I have a strong prey drive. If I spot a cat or a small animal, my instincts kick in. But don't worry, I respond well to corrections and am otherwise a perfect gentleman. I'm very smart and pick up new things quickly. I'll even bark to let you know when it's time for a bathroom break. I absolutely adore head and butt scratches, and I'm quite the love bug. I enjoy sitting in laps, getting petted, and just chilling on the couch with my humans. I have this adorable habit of scooting up against you for pets, and I'm known to lean in for some extra love. I know basic commands like sit and shake, and I'm always eager to learn more. I do have a habit of chewing, so I'd benefit from some additional training to refine my manners. I love treats, bones, peanut butter, rope toys, and anything that's hard, chewable, and safe for dogs. My past is a bit of a mystery; I was found as a stray and had a close call at Memphis Animal Services, but thankfully, For the Love of Woofers rescued me before I was euthanized. You might notice some scars on me, and one of my ears looks like it's been through a lot. We don’t know if I may have been used as a bait dog or what I have been through as a stray surviving on the streets. I do have some behaviors that may be a result of my unknown past. I do guard my food, toys, and bones, so I'd fit best in a home with older children who understand the importance of giving me space during meals and playtime. I tend to eat quickly, so a slow feeder would be a great idea for me. I thrive as the only pet or with dogs who are more on the submissive side and won't challenge me. My past may not have been kind, but I'm looking forward to a brighter future with a family who can be patient with me and show me love. Currently, I'm in Burkesville, Kentucky, but for the right home, I can be transported to nearby states. If you're looking for a smart, loving companion who's eager to start a new chapter, I'm your boy. Fill out an application today!

Story
Hello there! My name is Lucy, and I’m a 2 1/2-year-old black and white Staffordshire terrier. I weigh a perfect 40 pounds, and I’m spayed. I’m a pro at walking on a leash and I take corrections very well. I’m not fond of other dogs so I need to be the only dog in the home. I do absolutely adore children. I’ve been the best with all the kids in my foster home and playing with them is my favorite pastime. My guilty pleasures? Oh, I have a few! I love shin bones slathered in peanut butter, and I can never resist a good game of tug with my rope toys or a fun fetch with sticks. Car rides are my jam, and if you’re wondering about my Thursday routine, it includes a special treat from McDonald’s – a cheeseburger happy meal that I just can’t get enough of! I’m all about those butt scratches and cuddling up in your lap. While I haven’t been cat tested yet, I can be if you’d like. I was rescued from Memphis Animal Services right in the nick of time from being euthanized, and now I’m looking for my forever home where I can shower my people with love and protection. I may bark at strangers as I’m quite protective, but I’m all wags and smiles once they introduce themselves and pet me. If you’re looking for a loyal companion who’s amazing with people and ready to fill your life with joy, I’m your girl. I am in Burkesville, KY but can be transported to other states for the right adopter. Let’s meet and start our adventure together!

BRING COOKIES. WE CAN BE FRIENDS! Hi, I'm Dot, Dottie, Doodles--they call me lots of goofy names because I'm a  goofball! I've been playing with the wonderful ladies at Winding Lane Kennels and, although I love them to  pieces, I'd really like to have my own family. They say that I have "stranger danger" issues, but I just require that new people bring me cookies! Think of it as a friendship offering and I'll be your new best friend. :) I've been working with my lovely trainer and she says I'm a quick learner. I DO love to please people. I like to cuddle, but at 60 lb. I may be too big for your lap. I get the zoomies ALL the time! Everyone cracks up and secretly takes videos. I love hunting lizards and bugs and will run off those weird-looking tree dogs with the fuzzy tails. So I would be happiest with a fenced yard in which to do my zoomies!
