Story
Hello there! My name is Lucy, and I’m a 2 1/2-year-old black and white Staffordshire terrier. I weigh a perfect 40 pounds, and I’m spayed. I’m a pro at walking on a leash and I take corrections very well. I’m not fond of other dogs so I need to be the only dog in the home. I do absolutely adore children. I’ve been the best with all the kids in my foster home and playing with them is my favorite pastime. My guilty pleasures? Oh, I have a few! I love shin bones slathered in peanut butter, and I can never resist a good game of tug with my rope toys or a fun fetch with sticks. Car rides are my jam, and if you’re wondering about my Thursday routine, it includes a special treat from McDonald’s – a cheeseburger happy meal that I just can’t get enough of! I’m all about those butt scratches and cuddling up in your lap. While I haven’t been cat tested yet, I can be if you’d like. I was rescued from Memphis Animal Services right in the nick of time from being euthanized, and now I’m looking for my forever home where I can shower my people with love and protection. I may bark at strangers as I’m quite protective, but I’m all wags and smiles once they introduce themselves and pet me. If you’re looking for a loyal companion who’s amazing with people and ready to fill your life with joy, I’m your girl. I am in Burkesville, KY but can be transported to other states for the right adopter. Let’s meet and start our adventure together!

Story
My name is Gage, and I'm a 3 1/2-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier mix with a handsome brown and white coat. I'm a sturdy fellow, weighing 72 pounds. I've been neutered and vaccinated. I'm potty, crate, and leash trained. I get excited on walks and can pull on the leash at times but have been working on this. I have a strong prey drive. If I spot a cat or a small animal, my instincts kick in. But don't worry, I respond well to corrections and am otherwise a perfect gentleman. I'm very smart and pick up new things quickly. I'll even bark to let you know when it's time for a bathroom break. I absolutely adore head and butt scratches, and I'm quite the love bug. I enjoy sitting in laps, getting petted, and just chilling on the couch with my humans. I have this adorable habit of scooting up against you for pets, and I'm known to lean in for some extra love. I know basic commands like sit and shake, and I'm always eager to learn more. I do have a habit of chewing, so I'd benefit from some additional training to refine my manners. I love treats, bones, peanut butter, rope toys, and anything that's hard, chewable, and safe for dogs. My past is a bit of a mystery. You might notice some scars on me, and one of my ears looks like it's been through a lot. We don’t know if I may have been used as a bait dog or what I have been through as a stray surviving on the streets. I do have some behaviors that may be a result of my unknown past. I do guard my food, toys, and bones, so I'd fit best in a home with older children who understand the importance of giving me space during meals and playtime. I tend to eat quickly, so a slow feeder would be a great idea for me. I thrive as the only pet or with dogs who are more on the submissive side and won't challenge me. Despite my past, I am rather gentle at times and enjoy sweet moments like holding your hand with my paw. I'm looking forward to a brighter future with a family who can be patient with me and show me love. I am up to date on vaccines, neutered and heartworm negative. Currently, I'm in Burkesville, Kentucky, but for the right home, I can be transported to nearby states. If you're looking for a smart, loving companion who's eager to start a new chapter, I'm your boy. Fill out an application today!

Story
Meet Proud Mary, a mature female bully mix. We suspect Mary is staffordshire terrier / bull terrier mix because of her large rabbit ears. After months in a Georgia shelter, Proud Mary was just two days from euthanasia when our rescue agreed to take her, and this silly loving girl has been lounging in comfort ever since. Mary is a lap dog at heart and lives for an invite up onto the couch and a belly rub. Mary does not bark excessively inside the home though she will ‘talk’ to you when she wants attention. She loves morning walks, snacks and rolling in the grass. Mary would do best in a fenced yard or with an owner committed to daily walks though at 9 years old now, they don’t need to be very long. Mary is ‘barrier’ reactive (barking) and would not enjoy dog park visits. While Mary loves kids, we do not recommend her for a household with small children as she may easily knock them over. The BasicsAge: 9 yrsWeight: 55 lbsSpayed/Neutered: YesMicrochipped: YesVaccines Up-to-Date: YesOn Heartworm Prevention: YesHouse-Trained: Yes (perfect)Crate-Trained: YesLeash Skills: Needs work when excitedMedical: Clean bill of health from vet. Story
Almost Home believes that every animal deserves a loving home regardless of appearance, age, or physical limitation.  We have come together to give animals in need the safe and happy life they all deserve.  Almost Home Animal Rescue believes that no animal is expendable.  Adopting a friend:The animals, lucky enough to find refuge with Almost Home, are all in loving foster homes. If you are interested in the possibility of giving one of the animals a new lease on life, please contact us. The contact information is listed at the end of each biography.  What you need to do to adopt:If you would like to adopt a pet in need from Almost Home, basically, an application must be filled out. We will check two personal references and a vet reference. If you are approved for adoption, there is a trial period of about one week to make sure this is the animal for you and you are the person for the animal. Along with the trial period, a contract must be signed that basically states that if ever you cannot keep the animal that you must return the animal to Almost Home. Last but not least, a home check will be done. Meet & Greets:An approved application is required. This does not mean that you have to adopt but that you are approved to do so if everything works out. Since we are foster based, this limits the amount of people coming to our homes.  Hi! My name is Yukon and I’m in desperate need of a loving home! I’m about three to five years old with a heart full of energy and love, just waiting to find the perfect family. I absolutely adore kids—running, playing, and getting all the belly rubs are my favorite things in the world! If you’ve got a yard or love going for long walks, I’ll be right there beside you, ready to run, jump, and enjoy every moment. I’m an active girl who would thrive in a home where playtime and fun are part of everyday life. There’s one small thing you should know: I’m not the best around chickens. For some reason, they just get me all worked up, so a chicken-free home would be the best place for me. Now, I’m not asking just for me. My best friend, America (she doesn't like chickens either), is also looking for a home, and we’d love nothing more than to stay together. We’ve been through so much, and America is my partner in crime—our bond is strong, and we make the perfect pair of loyal companions. Our situation has become urgent. The shelter in our area had to close down after the director was fired, leaving us and many other animals in a state of emergency. Thankfully, a kind lady is letting the community use her property as a temporary refuge, but we can’t stay here forever. We need a safe, permanent home where we can continue to thrive and love our humans. If you’re looking for a loyal, playful, and loving dog (or two!), I’m your girl. Whether I come with America or find a new home solo, I promise to fill your days with joy, laughter, and so much love. Please, if you can help me in this time of need, reach out. I’m ready to find my forever family and start the next chapter of my life. With love and paws,Yukon & America *Guest Posting**America is in the second picture   If you would like to meet your new best friend, contact the Adoption Coordinator at info@almosthometn.org or 865-236-0830. To fill out an application, go to www.almosthometn.org. If you can't get it to work, tell us and we will email it to you. Adoption fee $150ADOPTION FEE: The adoption fee for a cat is $85. The adoption fee for a kitten is $100. The adoption fee does include the kittens being fixed and their rabies shot when they are old enough through one of our local vets. The adoption fee for a dog is $200. The adoption fee for a puppy is $250. The adoption fee does include the puppies being fixed and their rabies shot when they are old enough through one of our local vets. Mature pet adoption fees are sometimes reduced. The adoption fee for pure bred dogs and cats will vary due to health and age of pet. This helps support our ill animals and our mutts that get left in the system longer. We do reserve the right to change the fees higher or lower due to the circumstance of the animal but what was stated above are the usual adoption fees.  Microchipped pets will have a higher adoption fee.  Our adoption fees do not cover the cost of the vetting and care the animal has received with us and if it ever does, the money just goes back it to helping other animals in need. November 1, 2024, 8:13 pm

Story
Adonis and Titan are being fostered in Ohio. They are great with people, but probably best with older children due to their size. They are not good with small dogs or cats. Adonis and Titan are bonded, happy, enthusiastic, athletic, and affectionate 60-pound boxer/bulldog mixes who find joy in being around each other and people – ANY people! They were found starving, weak, and wandering in rural Kentucky, when they took shelter from a rainstorm in the home of a kind woman who opened her door. Adonis is suspected to be around 9-10 years old, blind, and the father of Titan. Titan, closer to 3 years old, was helping his dad survive as best he could and stayed loyally by his side. They found themselves at a county shelter where they quickly became staff favorites and were doted on by staff and volunteers alike. But the shelter was crowded and despite their best efforts, nobody came for the dynamic duo, so BDRA stepped up. Nobody is sure where this bonded father/son pair came from, and it’s hard to guess their story. They seem to be familiar with both the bad and good life. Both have mouths full of broken teeth. In fact, a few teeth just fell out of their mouths in their first days at their foster home. Their doctor thinks they broke their teeth chewing on chains or a metal cage, desperately trying to escape. They have matching scars on their legs where bones protrude, as if they were stuck laying in one position for long periods of time. They are also hand-shy around their heads. They were neglected, abandoned, and mistreated in the past. But they were also beloved house dogs once. They were already house trained, crate trained, and leash trained when they were picked up as strays. They take treats gently and think they are lap dogs. Adonis does a perfect “sit” (Titan is working on it) and Titan has a 100% return rate when playing fetch. They both come when called. They are both quick learners and food motivated. They love EVERY human they meet — and they want to meet every human they see! (People can be intimidated by their looks; they are big, athletic, and strong.) They absolutely LOVE kids, but forget how big they are, so small ones are not recommended. Adonis and Titan are sweet, loving, cuddly, and funny boys. They are big squishy babies who love to cuddle. They absolutely live for “Netflix and cuddle” time. They love to snuggle up on the couch with humans for a movie or TV marathon. Their foster parents always squish their faces because it's impossible not to. They soak up every bit of attention they can get. They live for cuddles, pets, attention, and treats. Adonis gets around very well despite his vision impairment. He occasionally runs into things and often stares at things that aren’t there, but he can go up and down stairs very well and navigates the house. He occasionally runs into things or isn’t sure where the steps start, but he can always find a treat, a cozy bed, or a person. (Or he’ll play Marco Polo and bark to get a response to find the person!) His sense of hearing and smell are perfect. Adonis has decided he is an inside dog and thinks the good life is in the house. Titan LOVES toys and playing fetch. He resource guards his toys because he’s convinced Adonis wants his toys (he usually doesn’t) and will pick a fight, so he has to be supervised with toys. He is very loving and listens to correction very well. He seems to have a strong prey drive, so no cats, bunnies, birds, or other small animals! They have a medium amount of energy. They can be couch potatoes, but they also like to run around and play in the backyard and take walks. But if it’s raining or extra cold, they don’t want anything to do with being outside any longer than necessary, and they are perfectly content to just be lazy all day. Titan has more energy than Adonis, being a younger guy, and will make up his own games in the back yard with his favorite green ball. Adonis prefers to sit on the deck or be inside — wherever the humans are! They love each other very much and get very worried when they are separated. They often sleep in the same (very large) dog bed together. They are very bonded. They have some resource guarding from having to survive on their own, so they must be fed separately and supervised with toys. But they have gotten much better as they have learned resources are unlimited. They are NOT good with cats or small dogs. Since they are SO enthusiastic about showing people their love, they are probably best for bigger kids. (They will knock the little ones down because they have no idea how big they are.) Adonis and Titan have seen hard times, but they don’t hold any grudges. These two are ready to find someone with bully-breed experience who appreciates the bully personality and quirks, and is ready to welcome the sometimes slobbery, but always enthusiastic zest for life that these two are offering! BDRA has voted against the use of electrical fencing effective immediately.
