Story
Meet Pops, a 4 and a half -year-old male Pit Bull mix.Pops is such a sweetheart, and he loves to press right up against you and even gives kisses. He is very easygoing and has lots of neck wrinkles you can’t help but rub. He has the look of a seal when he lays down for belly rubs and will keep you laughing with his goofy personality and looks. He loves his treats, walks well on leash and will scoot towards you for more attention; what’s not to love about this handsome boy? Pops is a dog that would like a household that has a canine companion with the same energy level as him. Or he would love to be an only dog. Pops has done great with some dogs in the past but other dogs he likes to correct when they get too rowdy, he never takes it too far but we feel that he would just prefer lower-key dogs. Pops could also do great in a house with kids over 10 years old. If you recognize this animal please contact the adoption center at 509-457-6854.If you are interested in adopting this pet please fill out an adoption questionnaire at www.yakimahumane.org. A Yakima Humane Society staff member will contact you once your questionnaire has been processed. Adopters are welcome to visit the adoption center Monday-Saturday. A Picture says 1000 words...right? While an animal`s picture draws interest, the reality is that as a potential adopter most people would like as much information as possible about a pet. The Yakima Humane Society is an open admission shelter. What does this mean? Over 90% of the pets at the adoption center arrive as strays, no history of behavior or medical care is known. Adding a pet to your family is a big responsibility. Please research carefully and remember that adoption is life saving. Adopt Don`t Shop.

Story
Meet Gorda, a 5-year-old female Pit Bull/Staffie mix.Gorda was brought to the adoption center by City of Yakima animal control. She and her buddy Gordo were out running at large in Yakima in the extreme heat and needed help. Gorda has been calm going in and out of her kennel and even ignores the other dogs as they bark at her walking out of the kennels. Gorda has done extremely well with her dog and people tests, getting along with all people and dogs she has met. We really think Gorda has an exceptionally good temperament that could make an excellent family dog. Gorda is very treat motivated and a bit in the chunky side, she could benefit from loosing a couple pounds. This girl is actually rather small in stature and we enjoy that she doesn’t try and pull us every which way on the leash. Gorda is such a good girl she knows her commands “sit” and “down” and will do just about anything for some gentle attention. You definitely have to meet this girl in person to see just how much of a doll she is.This pet is available for adoption at the Ellensburg Humane Society adoption center. If you are interested in adopting this pet please fill out an adoption questionnaire at www.yakimahumane.org. A Yakima Humane Society staff member will contact you once your questionnaire has been processed. Adopters are welcome to visit the adoption center Monday-Saturday. A Picture says 1000 words...right? Story
Meet Pedro, a two and a half year old American Pit Bull Terrier/Retriever mix. Pedro was brought to us as a stray and it is clear he hasn’t had the easiest life. His ears were covered in scratches and scars that could be from a variety of thing such as a bad case of fleas. He also had some scars on other parts of his body, despite this Pedro doesn’t hold his experiences against humans. He has now been with us for a while and all those scabs and scars are a thing of the past, his coat has come back nice and healthy and his spirit is that of a dog reborn. Where he was once shy, Pedro is now happy and ready to get some lovin. He enjoys attention and has a playful side. We are working on his manners as he likes to jump up and can be a bit mouthy when excited, however this is easily redirected to a toy and can be trained out of him pretty quickly. Due to his being mouthy when excited we think a home with no young kids might be best until he gets a bit of training. Pedro walks really well on his leash and is just a puppy at heart. Pedro has met another big dog while with us and did well, we think that given a proper introduction he could do well in a home with another dog or by himself. Story
Meet Yuko, a one and a half year old Pit Mix.Yuko has clearly had a rough life. He was owner surrendered to animal control and when he was brought in he was dehydrated, extremely skinny and moving slowly. He also had a very sensitive neck from improper use of a prong collar and a metal cord wrapped around it. Yuko has been with us long enough he is now at a healthy weight of around 60 pounds and doing great. He has come really far during his time here and is doing phenomenally. He knows “sit” and “shake/paw” and loves his treats. He is very happy to go on walks and even went on a jog with a volunteer although he didn’t last very long (LOL). He will sit before getting his food and will make an excellent companion. If you are interested in adopting this pet please fill out an adoption questionnaire at www.yakimahumane.org. Story
Meet Paco, a two year old American Pitbull/American Bully mix. Paco is a handsome, muscular boy weighing in at 60 pounds. As you can tell by the picture he is quite beefy and very strong. Paco is a friendly, good natured but who just doesn’t seem to understand just how strong he is when he is on his walks, so leash training will be important. This boy is very treat motivated and know the commands “sit” and “down”. He doesn’t have much impulse control, like a kid in a candy shop except the work is him candy shop. He approaches every new situation with enthusiasm and will keep you laughing with his antics. This pet is available for adoption on 10/1/2024 at 9:51 PM at the Yakima Humane Society adoption center. Story
Meet Charlotte, a two year old female Pit mix.Charlotte is an old-school pit, the Pits we remember from a decade ago when they were petite a lean (now they are bigger and more bulky). She weighs in at 40 pounds and is a beautiful red color. She was found chasing people wanting to say hi with another dog, Izzie. She got along well with Izzie but they are doing fine separate and can go to different homes. Charlotte is a lot of fun, she came in with skin issues and Izzie did was well, we think they will have their hair regrow now they are away from whatever environment they were in. Charlotte keeps a clean kennel and is very treat motivated, sitting on command. This pet is available for adoption at the Yakima Humane Society adoption center.
