Story
Meet Pedro, a two and a half year old American Pit Bull Terrier/Retriever mix. Pedro was brought to us as a stray and it is clear he hasn’t had the easiest life. His ears were covered in scratches and scars that could be from a variety of thing such as a bad case of fleas. He also had some scars on other parts of his body, despite this Pedro doesn’t hold his experiences against humans. He has now been with us for a while and all those scabs and scars are a thing of the past, his coat has come back nice and healthy and his spirit is that of a dog reborn. Where he was once shy, Pedro is now happy and ready to get some lovin. He enjoys attention and has a playful side. We are working on his manners as he likes to jump up and can be a bit mouthy when excited, however this is easily redirected to a toy and can be trained out of him pretty quickly. Due to his being mouthy when excited we think a home with no young kids might be best until he gets a bit of training. Pedro walks really well on his leash and is just a puppy at heart. Pedro has met another big dog while with us and did well, we think that given a proper introduction he could do well in a home with another dog or by himself. This pet is available for adoption at the Yakima Humane Society adoption center. The Yakima Humane Society is an open admission shelter. What does this mean? Over 90% of the pets at the adoption center arrive as strays, no history of behavior or medical care is known. Adding a pet to your family is a big responsibility. Please research carefully and remember that adoption is life saving. Adopt Don`t Shop.

Story
Meet Yuko, a one and a half year old Pit Mix.Yuko has clearly had a rough life. He was owner surrendered to animal control and when he was brought in he was dehydrated, extremely skinny and moving slowly. He also had a very sensitive neck from improper use of a prong collar and a metal cord wrapped around it. Yuko has been with us long enough he is now at a healthy weight of around 60 pounds and doing great. He has come really far during his time here and is doing phenomenally. He knows “sit” and “shake/paw” and loves his treats. He is very happy to go on walks and even went on a jog with a volunteer although he didn’t last very long (LOL). He will sit before getting his food and will make an excellent companion. If you are interested in adopting this pet please fill out an adoption questionnaire at www.yakimahumane.org. Story
Meet Paco, a two year old American Pitbull/American Bully mix. Paco is a handsome, muscular boy weighing in at 60 pounds. As you can tell by the picture he is quite beefy and very strong. Paco is a friendly, good natured but who just doesn’t seem to understand just how strong he is when he is on his walks, so leash training will be important. This boy is very treat motivated and know the commands “sit” and “down”. He doesn’t have much impulse control, like a kid in a candy shop except the work is him candy shop. He approaches every new situation with enthusiasm and will keep you laughing with his antics. This pet is available for adoption at the Yakima Humane Society adoption center. Story
Meet Tux, a one year old Pit mix weighing in at 94 pounds.Tux is a BIG boy reminding us of an XL Bully which have become popular over the years. He was found as a stray and the finders held onto him for a while because there was no room to take him. They describe him as being friendly, good with kids, playful and affectionate. He was indoor with them with access to outside and did very well. He was around men, women, dogs and cats while with them and did well with them all. They would have loved to keep him but were elderly and he was just a bit too active for them. He is still unsure about the leash, but we are sure with a little time he will warm up to it once he realized the leash means he gets to go for walks. This happy goober has the best smile and is treat motivated, gladly sitting for them This pet is available for adoption at the Yakima Humane Society adoption center. Story
Meet Kenneth, a two year old Pit mix.Kenneth is a handsome boy who weighs in at 52 pounds. He enjoys going on his walks and is surprising good on his leash for a dog that just came to us. Kenneth likes the sound of squeakers and is curious about the other dogs he sees. He lets people come up and pet him when on his walks without any issue and has a good disposition. He went on a hike with one of our amazing volunteers and they said he did great continually checking in and letting other people and dogs pass without much fuss. He does have a lot of energy at first, which is understandable coming from a kennel environment, but once he burns some of that energy off he really settles in.
