Story
Dijon Mustard may be a dog but honestly he wouldn't mind at all if you got a little confused and put him on the table next to the hotdogs and hamburgers. All the food will vanish quickly and all you'll be left with is a happy and wiggly boy standing on the table with the biggest smile on his face. So, yes, he'd love to be a condiment for a day. Unfortunately for Dijon, he's a dog and will always be a dog but that comes with a few benefits - the ability to do zoomies, splashing in the pool, and making friends with every person he meets are just a few of those perks. He's a fun loving pup and he sometimes just cannot contain his joy and has to sprint as fast as his stocky little body can go to use some of that excitement up. After the zooms and play time, he'll settle down for some chill time with his people (because, really, that's just as important to him as anything else). **if you are interested in meeting Dijon, please complete an adopter's profile at parl.org and come in during our open hours!**

Story
Halo is one of the sweetest and gentlest old men we've had in a while. He's a golden boy in the golden years of his life and he's looking for a home with a soft couch, good treats, and people to rub his belly. He does have creaky joints and stiff old man legs, so he's not up for long walks but a casual stroll around the block would be enough for him. He enjoys snoozing the days away and soaking in all the love possible. If you think you have enough affection to spare and would like to give him a loving hospice home, please complete an adopter's profile at parl.org and come in during our open hours.

Story
Meet Montana - Take My Lead Dog Montana found herself at the shelter as part of a cruelty case in March of 2023. She was seized from her former owner and held as evidence alongside Vermont. Montana has been receiving routine visits from Vermont’s Enrichment Specialist, and continues to grow her confidence thanks to the dedicated staff at her shelter. Montana is very smart, and quick to learn new cues. This adorable girl loves to run, chase down toys, and is working hard on her fetch skills. While she’s not nearly as fearful as Vermont, she does have a fear of new people and things. This makes walking on leash challenging and something she will need patience with. She comes with a Take My Lead grant for FREE training through Handsome Dan's Rescue, which we are making a mandatory part of her adoption to ensure her forever home is committed to working on her behaviors. Montana loves to play. She’s a runner, and would do great in a home with enough space for her to do so. A large fenced in yard would be ideal to give her the outlet she needs to burn off her young energy. She also loves to snuggle, and will gladly get all up in your business in an attempt to get pats and hugs. She is on the small side of medium, and needs an adults-only home, where she will likely need to be the only pet. If you have any questions or are interested in adopting Montana, please email Rachael at hdrrachael@gmail.com

Story
Meet VT - Coming Soon - Cruelty Case - Take My Lead Dog This sweet boy is very fearful. He was part of a cruelty case. We can explain more on that to any interested applicants. He will need a very patient adopter willing to continue working to help him trust and habituate to life in the community. We would prefer an only dog home for him at this time. Also we probably won't place him with kids due to his level of fear with fast movements right now. However, we hope with time he will become more comfortable with all of these things. He lives at a local shelter where their most skilled staff has been working hard to help him recover from his past life. He is part of the Handsome Dan's Shelter Dog Enrichment Program where he has been matched to dedicated volunteer Rachael. You can contact her at HDRrachael@gmail.com for questions and more info. He has been granted an HDR Take My Lead grant, which in this case we prefer to be a mandatory part of adoption due to his level of fear, which provides him with FREE private training and group classes once adopted. Please don't overlook him due to his level of fear, It's very rewarding to help such a fearful dog learn to trust.

Meet Sharon Little Sharon is weighing in at only 28lbs. She's a pure bred American Pit Bull Terrier in foster care with us here at Handsome Dan's Rescue. Her foster mom, Anya, is an amazing trainer and has Sharon doing all sorts of fun stuff. Sadly, Sharon was rescued from a life of dogfighting. When we went to the Humane Society of the US' shelter we met Sharon and fell in love. Shortly after we brought Sharon into our rescue and she never looked back. We have not found anything Sharon is not good with... dogs, kids, horses even! Sharon is located in Fairfield, CT To apply to adopt Sharon: handsomedansrescue.org For questions: wellmanneredmuttct@gmail.com

Story
Rosie has been waiting over 550 days for a forever home. She is our longest resident and she desperately needs a forever home. Her ideal family would not have children under 12 or other pets. She is a stunning, 2.5 year old, female, Pit Bull mixed breed. She loves to play in our backyard and enjoys laying in the sun. She does well on a leash and is working on her house training. She is up to date on vaccinations and has been spayed. *PLEASE NOTE: DUE TO STRINGENT OUT OF STATE HEALTH CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENTS WE ARE NOW ONLY ADOPTING TO RHODE ISLAND RESIDENTS*. We apologize for the inconvenience. Unfortunately, due to past issues with landlords/housing/insurance, a restricted breed policy is in place for Bully breed/Pit Bull type dogs. This means that you must own your home and provide proof of homeownership to adopt a Bully breed/Pit Bull dog or puppy. While we understand that this may be an inconvenience, it is necessary to help reduce the number of devastated dogs being returned. We apologize for the inconvenience.  HOW TO GO ABOUT ADOPTING: 1. Tac is an amazing dog that is going to make the right adopter VERY happy. She was born on 6/17/23 and she is a Pit Bull mixed breed. She is very sweet but shy around new people. She LOVES to play and cuddle with her foster siblings. Her ideal forever home would not have men and would definitely have another dog. She is extremely smart and knows several commands. She is great on a leash and really enjoys exploring outside. She is working on her potty training and has been doing great (her foster mom is a rockstar!). She is up to date on vaccinations and has been spayed. He is a happy and very sweet boy looking for a forever home.  He requires a home with a fully fenced in back yard in a family without children under 12. Meet Brisket! Brisket is a skinny boxer man but he's a true foodie and he won't turn his nose up at any treats you have to offer. Brisket does well with all people and he tends to be very gentle. He does have a prey drive so we're looking for a home without cats or other small animals but he does do well with larger dogs. Brisket does urinate in the house occasionally and is prone to UTIs so he'd do best staying on a supportive diet for dogs with urinary crystals. **if you are interested in meeting this distinguished gentleman, please complete an adopter's profile at parl.org and come in during our open hours**

Story
Meet Aubie 💙 Aubie is a 10 year old Boxer mix. He had a wonderful home where he was spoiled and loved up until a few months ago and then his world fell apart 😔. Aubie’s owner got very sick and could no longer care for himself or Aubie. Aubie was placed at a local vet clinic for several months in hopes that someday he could return home to his person and the life he had always known but unfortunately that is not going to be possible due to the fact that his previous owner has had to have more surgery and has sadly lost his ability to walk. So now Aubie is looking for a new home where he has never has to worry about the future and he can just focus on being the good boy that he is. Aubie is crate and house trained and would do great in a settled home where he still gets to be active. We think a home with an active person or couple or one with older children would be great for Aubie. He is okay with other dogs but is not really interested in being a doggie friend. Aubie just wants a person to hang with and to play ball non stop 🎾. He is very active for his age so a fenced yard for him to run around in is a high priority especially since he loves to spend time outside. This boy has been through so much recently, we are praying his new family will see this post and give him the opportunity to live out his life in the way he deserves being loved and cared for by his new hero. ❤️
