Story
Saint is up to date and vetted, neutered. He’s a sweet boy that needs more attention that I am able to give at this time. And unfortunately unable to stay in the apartment building we are currently living in. He would do well with single owner or couple. No small pets/animals. Good with dogs. Not so good with strangers so takes a little to warm up. Needs exercise and attention. Does have anxiety and will howl if left alone. Ideally a home with fenced in yard. Experience with the breed or dogs necessary. He has basic training but can benefit from behavioral. New companions must have lifestyle where they are able to dedicate time to him and not left alone for too many hours. He likes to do his own thing but doesn’t like to be left alone. He has the biggest heart, affectionate caring and loves to cuddle once he gains trust.

Story
Meet Montana - Take My Lead Dog Montana found herself at the shelter as part of a cruelty case in March of 2023. She was seized from her former owner and held as evidence alongside Vermont. Montana has been receiving routine visits from Vermont’s Enrichment Specialist, and continues to grow her confidence thanks to the dedicated staff at her shelter. Montana is very smart, and quick to learn new cues. This adorable girl loves to run, chase down toys, and is working hard on her fetch skills. While she’s not nearly as fearful as Vermont, she does have a fear of new people and things. This makes walking on leash challenging and something she will need patience with. She comes with a Take My Lead grant for FREE training through Handsome Dan's Rescue, which we are making a mandatory part of her adoption to ensure her forever home is committed to working on her behaviors. Montana loves to play. She’s a runner, and would do great in a home with enough space for her to do so. A large fenced in yard would be ideal to give her the outlet she needs to burn off her young energy. She also loves to snuggle, and will gladly get all up in your business in an attempt to get pats and hugs. She is on the small side of medium, and needs an adults-only home, where she will likely need to be the only pet. If you have any questions or are interested in adopting Montana, please email Rachael at hdrrachael@gmail.com

Story
Meet Vermont - Take My Lead Vermont is a fearful boy who is still working on expanding his circle of trust, but I promise that once you’re in it, he will love you with his whole heart… and head… and butt. He forgets all personal space exists once you’ve been initiated into the Trustworthy Human Club. His circle is small, and for good reason. At under two years old, he’s lacked critical socialization while he was kept at a shelter as evidence in his former owner’s cruelty case since March 2023. While shelter staff and HDR volunteers have worked closely with him, not being able to leave the shelter’s premises has limited his interactions and real-life exposure to a single area, and only a handful of people. Each new experience is met with hesitation but also, as he becomes more confident and comfortable, it’s met with curiosity. If it’s new, it’s scary. We are working on getting him acclimated to real life by exposing him to more people, places, and things. We are now in a position to expand his universe with him being turned over to the shelter after waiting 533 days. Vermont is smart, and eager to please. He’s great with basic commands, loves birds, the color lavender, breakfast sandwiches, and has shown interest in other dogs. He is gentle, playful, and a goofball, but is also sensitive to unexpected or new sights and sounds. Vermont is a work in progress, but has proven to be up for the challenge. Vermont is medium in size, and would do best in an adult-only home due to the ease in which he scares. While we think he may do well with another dog in the home, we still need some time to make an official decision. He needs a special person or a special couple who are willing to work with his needs, and who understand that he may always need time and space to process new environments. Vermont comes with a Take My Lead grant, providing training through Handsome Dan’s Rescue. While not generally the case for our TML dogs, training is mandatory in this case, and we will require his adopter(s) to agree to this as part of his adoption process. To say this boy is special is an understatement. We are beyond excited for him to be officially available for adoption, and we can’t wait to find his forever home. For any questions, please contact his Enrichment Specialist, Rachael, at hdrrachael@gmail.com

Story
Meet Harley Sweet and gentle Harley is a resident of East Providence Shelter. Harley has a fear of men but is working hard to overcome that fear. She know a few cued commands, and is happy to show them off. Harley is medium energy, affectionate, and such a beautiful dog. We think she will do best with a female owner, at least at this time. Shelter staff is helping her with her fear of men, for she's not quite there yet. She is potty trained and well behaved. Please email East Providence shelter directly at aco@eastprovidenceri.gov for questions about Harley. Thank you for choosing rescue!
