Looking for a sweet girl with a touch of curiosity? Meet Leilani! While she’s a bit braver than her sister Spinelli, she’s still the second most nervous of the bunch. She’ll need a patient family to help her master leash walking and house training with plenty of positive vibes! 💩 Small Steps, Big Love: 👣 Leilani might take a moment to approach you, but once she feels safe, her sweet personality truly shines. She’s looking for a gentle leader to hold her paw through life’s big adventures. 🛡️ If you enjoy watching a pup "bloom" right before your eyes, Leilani is your girl! Story
Danielle is a gorgeous, timid girl who will need lots of patience as she learns she is safe. Positive reinforcement and happy experiences will help her develop confidence as she blossoms. While nervous, she is curious, and is starting to show her playful side. OTHER PETS: Danielle is still young and bouncy, she went for a walk with a smaller, relaxed pup, and in no time she was walking happily with her new friend. She would likely do well with a playful dog who communicates well, and the ability to roll with her exuberent play style. [ (Must Meet First)] OWNER EXPERIENCE: [First Dog] Experience with positive reinforcement or willingness to learn. While Danielle has shown some nervousness, including sudden movements and noises, that can greatly improve with patience, relationship-building playtime, and the opportunity to fully decompress. Once she realized she was safe she solicited interaction and began showing her sweet personality. GROOMING: [Minimal] KIDS: Danielle is young and very bouncy and could easily knock young children over. She would likely do best with older, respectful kids who know how to give her space. Danielle has shown very sublte signs of resource-guarding while at TJO (she sped up eating when approached), but if she learns she doesn't have to lose valuable items with 'trading up,' she will gain confidence. For safety, dogs should be separated during mealtime so no worries develop. She should meet everyone she would be living with prior to adoption. [15+ (Must Meet First)]ACTIVITY LEVEL: Danielle was nervous initially, but with fun and encouragement she began to feel more comfortable playing with toys. With ample opportunity to decompress and feel safe, nervous dogs like Danielle often reveal, slowly, interests that are not seen in the shelter setting. She has been comfortable with most handling but will lower her body and sometimes go belly up (not a request for attention) when worried. She loosened up and did several play bows with a dog friend, but she may be a bit much for dogs who aren't interested in the antics of a youngster. A combination of regular physical activity combined with plenty of mental enrichment and games will fully meet her needs. [Active] VETERINARY CARE:. [Average] LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Danielle bond with her new owner and build self-confidence in her new home while learning new skills and fun tricks. Positive reinforcement is a great way to keep her mind engaged and active to fully meet her needs. [Minimal]May 12, 2026, 2:10 pm

Story
***IN FOSTER--call to schedule a meet***Peter was a bit underweight and nervous when he first came to TJO but after a good night's sleep and a few days of regular, nutritious meals, he was feeling a little better and a little braver. Peter is at a more appropriate weight and has been making friends with staff and volunteers while he enjoys being safe and warm during all these snow storms.OTHER PETS: Peter is mostly disinterested in other dogs but when uncomfortable will get irritated across the barrier with another dog. He would do well as an only pet. [Only Pet] OWNER EXPERIENCE: [First Dog] Experience with positive reinforcement or willingness to learn. Peter is pretty easy-going and enjoys the company of a human friend, some playtime, and opportunities to rest on a soft bed. Peter does not love giving up his toys, so to help him feel confident, trading up (with another toy or high value treat) is a a safer way to remove toys and will help him worry less about losing high value items. GROOMING: [Minimal] KIDS: Peter has been uncomfortable with some handling but tolerant of it, he does solicit physical interaction but arthritis makes him sore. He can be a little grabby with toys, unintentionally brushing teeth against fingers or knuckles when giving/taking toys; Peter would not be a good fit for younger children and should meet everyone he would be living with prior to adoption. [13+ (Must Meet First)]ACTIVITY LEVEL: Peter still enjoys being active but too much walking could aggravate his arthritis; he enjoys playing with humans and toys, sometimes getting grabby with toys and fixating on them occasionally. Peter would do well with a variety of mental enrichment activities - a combination of physical activity and mental stimulation will help meet his needs and keep him young; you can also speak with your vet about diet and exercise/physical therapy referals. [Good Yoga Buddy] VETERINARY CARE: Peter will need a good relationship with a vet to ensure his arthritis is optimally managed and he is able to remain active well into old age. [Above Average] LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Peter bond with his new owner, build self-confidence, and new skills and fun tricks. Positive reinforcement is a great way to keep his mind engaged and active to fully meet his needs. [Minimal]May 12, 2026, 2:10 pm

Story
Once Tinkerbell feels comfortable, her true personality really shines. She’ll happily roll around in your lap and paw at you, asking for more love and attention. It’s in these moments that her sweet, playful, and wonderfully goofy nature comes out in full. This smart girl knows sit, paw, and catch!SAFE DOG MEETS AT THE SHELTER: https://www.tjoconnoradoptioncenter.com/what-we-do/safe-dog-meetsOTHER PETS: Tinkerbell has done well with smaller dogs during her time at TJO. However, she would thrive best as the only pet in a home, as she can become uncomfortable when other dogs receive attention.Should be only pet OWNER EXPERIENCE: Tinkerbell would do best with an adopter who has prior experience with positive reinforcement, and understands that some dogs need extra time to adjust. She’s a sensitive girl who will benefit from a patient, understanding owner who can give her the support she needs during her transition, making sure to allow her to set the pace. Some Experience KIDS: Tinkerbell is a cautious dog who takes her time warming up to new people and environments. She can be a bit skittish around sudden sounds and movements, so she thrives best in a calm, predictable home. Because of this, Tinkerbell would do best with children aged 15 and older who understand how to approach dogs gently and respectfully. Any potential adopters with kids should plan for a meet-and-greet to ensure everyone feels comfortable. Kids 15+ (Must Meet First) ACTIVITY LEVEL:Tinkerbell has a moderate activity level, enjoying a mixture of playtime and relaxation. She loves being outdoors and can be playful when the mood strikes, but she’s just as happy lounging around and taking it easy. She would do well with regular walks and some fun time outside, followed by plenty of time to relax and unwind at home. A combination of exercise and mental enrichment will help meet her needs. Couch Potato VETERINARY CARE: Routine LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Tinkerbell will thrive with positive reinforcement, using treats, praise, and patience to help her feel safe and build trust while reinforcing new skills and fun tricks. Because she can be nervous around sudden noises, quick movements, and new people, she’ll need continued support to grow her confidence at her own pace. Gentle, exposure to new experiences at her pace will help her feel more secure over time. With understanding and encouragement, Tinkerbell can blossom into a more confident and comfortable girl.GROOMING:Minimal May 12, 2026, 2:10 pm
