MARLEY

Pit Bull Terrier

Springfield, MA
Size
(when grown) Large 61-100 lbs (28-45 kg)

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Marley came to TJO quite itchy and nervous, but opened up quickly to staff and soon enjoyed all the butt scratches she could handle. Her favorite toy is tennis balls; she enjoys collecting them, fetching them, chewing on them, and sometimes tearing them open. Do you have room for a loveable tennis ball dragon?OTHER PETS: Marley was not interested in meeting hyper dogs, and gets grumpy with other dogs if they play too roughly (even if not with her); Marley would do best as an only dog although she enjoys socializing with low energy dogs outside of the home. [Should Be Only Pet] OWNER EXPERIENCE: Marley is going to need time, compassion, and understanding while she settles in - it may take longer than usual for her to begin to settle in and open up. Someone with experience would be able to support Marley with a minimal learning curve. [Some Experience] KIDS: Marley can be intense with her food and takes time to warm up to people; she needs to live with humans who will not mess with her food bowls and understand she may take time to become affectionate with them - Marley is nervous around strangers and will growl at them. [15+ (Must Meet First)] ACTIVITY LEVEL: Marley walks well on a leash and enjoys spending time outside, she enjoys fetch and other toy involved play with humans and does not get overly excited. Marley would do best with daily walks, some quality playtime, and plenty of mental enrichment. [Good Walking Buddy] VETERINARY CARE: Marley arrived with some very itchy, scabby, skin. She had received vet care and is now back to 100%. A good relationship with a vet will ensure that Marley ages gracefully. [Routine]LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Marley bond with her new owner as well as help her learn important skills. Story
Karma is an outgoing, high energy girl who enjoys playing with people and has been known to bop humans with her toys from time to time. She is very people oriented, but still needs help channeling her excitement and will need the support of her humans to tackle the fun challenge of positive reinforcement training.OTHER PETS: Karma has a very active prey drive, she should not live with small dogs or cats. She can be pushy with other dogs so she should meet any dog she may be living with to ensure a good match.[Case-By-Case *NO SMALL DOGS NO CATS* (Must Meet First)] OWNER EXPERIENCE: Someone who has experience with athletic, high energy dogs would be a good fit for Karma.[Some Experience] KIDS: Karma is jumpy, sometimes muzzle punches (booping with her nose), and is uncomfortable with some handling. Karma's best fit would be in a home with adults and older teens only. [15+ (Must Meet First)]ACTIVITY LEVEL: Karma has a lot of energy and will need appropriate ways to channel it to ensure she does not amuse herself at her owner's belongings expense. Multiple or longer daily walks would be a great idea, and supervised outdoor playtime will give Karma the chance to roll around and be a goofy wiggle butt. [Olympic Athlete]VETERINARY CARE: [Routine] LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Karma bond with her new owner as well as help her learn important skills. Karma may be able to work on reducing her prey drive if her owner seeks the assistance of a qualified Veterinary Behavorist, however to keep animals safe Karma should not have access to small dogs or other animals. MISSES

Pit Bull Terrier

Size
(when grown) Med. 26-60 lbs (12-27 kg)
Details
Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Misses is a playful dog who gets very excited when greeting her favorite people. She can be a little nervous at first with new people, but she warms up quickly. She is a jumper, and can be a bit mouthy when she's excited or uncomfortable, but she's quite gentle with it. She loves to play with toys, and loves getting attention!OTHER PETS: Although Misses invited play with another dog, she can come on a bit strong and get overexcited, which could potentially cause a fight with the wrong dog. She would likely do best with a tolerant dog who can match her play style. [Case-By-Case (Must Meet First)]OWNER EXPERIENCE: Misses would do best with someone who is familiar with dogs and understands their mannerisms. She can be jumpy and mouthy, and while it's not malicious, someone who is inexperienced may be more uncomfortable with these behaviors. [Some Experience]KIDS: Misses can be jumpy and mouthy when she gets excited, and while she is gentle she could certainly knock over a younger kid by accident. She is also uncomfortable with some types of handling, so she would do best with kids who are old enough to understand when to let her have her own space and how to interact with her. [12+ (Must Meet First)]ACTIVITY LEVEL: Misses is an active dog that would do well with various forms of both physical and mental enrichment, to ensure that she stays happy and doesn't make her own entertainment. With further positive reinforcement training, she could also be a good candidate for more adventurous activities like hiking or dog sports. [Good Walking Buddy]VETERINARY CARE: [Routine]LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Misses is still at the beginning of her positive reinforcement training journey, and will do best learning with someone who can offer both patience and confidence while she adjusts. Positive reinforcement training will help Misses not only learn her basic cues, but also help her to feel more comfortable and confident in herself! It will provide a good opportunity for her to bond with her new owner as well. [Moderate] GROOMING: [Minimal]December 12, 2024, 7:40 pm

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Babe is a sweet older girl who might take a while to warm up. She can be skittish with new people, but once she's comfortable she'll be leaning in for all the pets! She's not a fan of loud noises, and will startle easily when she's not expecting something, but she's so gentle and sweet--especially when it comes to treats! Since she's such a nervous dog, patience and support will be crucial in helping Bella adjust to her new home. OTHER PETS: While Babe isn't overtly reactive with other dogs, she prefers to keep to herself and isn't fond of close interaction. She would be happiest as an only dog in the home, where she can have her own space. [Should Be Only Pet]OWNER EXPERIENCE: Someone dedicated to building Babe's confidence and supporting her as she adjusts to life in a new home would be ideal. [First Dog / Some Experience]KIDS: Babe can be uncomfortable with some types of handling--especially with those she doesn't know yet--so she would likely do best around kids that are old enough to respect her boundaries and understand how to interact with her. [13+ (Must Meet First)]ACTIVITY LEVEL: Babe hasn't had a huge interest in toys during her stay at TJO, but once she's settled in a home environment it's possible that her energy level may change. She's definitely a dog that'd be happy sharing space on the couch with her people, but she can also be a great walking buddy - she loves her daily walks and does beautifully on leash! [Couch Potato / Good Walking Buddy]VETERINARY CARE: [Routine]LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Babe will do best learning with someone who can offer both patience and confidence while she adjusts. Positive reinforcement training will help Babe not only learn her basic cues, but also help her to feel more comfortable and confident in herself! It will provide a good opportunity for her to bond with her new owner as well as she slowly acclimates to a new home. [Minimal]GROOMING: Routine brushing will help to minimize shedding in the home.
