Story
Hunter is a gentle 60-pound Pitbull mix with a heart of gold. This strong boy, about a year old, was found running loose on the back roads of Tennessee, but despite his tough start, he's in great shape with a silky black coat. While no one has come forward to claim him, Hunter is patiently waiting for a loving family to call his own! Hunter enjoys his daily walks and is working on not pulling on the leash. ‍&#226&#153&#130&#239&#184&#143 He’s curious, playful, and loves other dogs! He’s been sharing a pen with a Boxer, though we feed him separately to avoid any food aggression. Hunter does the cutest little dance when it’s time for his meals or walks—it’s sure to put a smile on your face! While he hasn’t been tested with cats or kids yet, Hunter did have a run-in with a neighbor’s chicken , so he might be best suited to a home without small livestock. Critter Cavalry Rescue is a Middle Tennessee-based 501(c)(3) that travels to the Northeast states weekly, helping high-risk homeless animals like Hunter find their forever homes. Story
Meet Dory – A Survivor with a Gentle Heart Hi, I’m Dory! I’m a calm, sweet girl with a big heart, ready to find my forever home. I get along wonderfully with dogs of all sizes and love being by your side, whether we’re enjoying a short walk, a car ride, or just relaxing together. My journey hasn’t been easy. I spent over two months in a shelter with broken legs and a dislocated hip, waiting for someone to save me. When my foster mom rescued me, I needed urgent surgery to survive. Thanks to her care, I’m here today, ready for a fresh start. I’m polite, quiet, and well-behaved—perfect for a small yard or apartment. While I might limp after longer walks, I still love visiting plant nurseries and stores, soaking up attention and affection. If you’re looking for a loyal, low-energy companion with a story of resilience and a heart full of love, I’d love to be yours. Could you be my happily ever after? Paws From Afar believes that all dogs should have adventures as often as possible; they need a change of scenery, smellery, new paths to explore, or oceans to swim in.  Pet insurance is required prior to pickup, please make sure you calculate this into your monthly expenses we recommend Trupanion Why Trupanion? 1) Coverage for all new injuries and illnesses 2) They pay directly to the hospital or facility 3) Unlimited payout for the lifetime of your pet. Please send a copy of your policy to deb@pawsfromafar.org Dory is in Houston and will be transported up here once she is adopted. She is up-to-date on all vaccines and will be altered when they arrive to you, The adoption fee is $600. The adoption fee includes all vetting and transport from Texas. If the pup is still listed, then they are still available. Keep in mind that we bring our dog up from the south and if you require a meet and greet, we are not the right rescue for you, we are happy to put you in touch with the pups fosters prior to adoption.   To submit your adoption application, please visit pawsfromafar.org. Please refrain from sending "I'm interested" messages. If the dog is still listed, we will reach out to you if we decide to move forward with your application. Thank you for your understanding! Story
Dakota was adopted out and came back to us after years in a home. She’s an older girl and needs a forever home to grow old in! While she could use a diet, she is an active girl and loves going on runs/walks! She prefers male dogs. Dakota is good on and off leash, and she is smart and food motivated. While Dakota loves her people, she would do best with older, dog experienced children, as she’s getting old and could potentially be grumpy. Her perfect life would consist of walks and yard time, and then cuddling at night!

Story
I'm Randall! When I came to the shelter I was in bad shape, I was bald and skinny but the girls took great care of me and now I'm healthy as can be! I am a bit afraid of new situations and need some encouragement but in my past when I went to new places people weren't very nice and shoed me away, so I'm trying to learn not everyone is going to do that. I am great with other dogs and cats because after all in my experience they were never mean to me! The girls here at the shelter are doing a great job at showing me I can trust people and I am learning everyday!

Story
Lolita is a lively bully breed/terrier mix! She LOVES people and other dogs. She would love a playmate! She has a lot of energy, so training and manners would do her well! She’s highly food and toy motivated. Lolita is bound to make you laugh— she’s a silly girl! She hasn’t had direct contact with any of our cats, but has seen them through a baby gate and showed little interest; she from sniffed and just went back to her toys! She still potties in her kennel. She LOVES children but would do best with older children since she tends to jump which can result in scratching. Lolita is a lovely little girl ready for a home— she will light up your life with laughter and fun!

Story
Hello, my name is Ramsey. I am about 5 years old. I'm a Pitbull Terrier Mix who is up to date on all my vaccines and neutered. I have spent about half of my life in a high kill shelter area just outside of Houston Texas, the other half was as a stray in the dangerous Texas environment fighting to stay alive. I had a home for a little while. In April of 2023 I was adopted, the shelter staff was so happy for me! The home I went to wasn’t nice to me though and I was picked up again as a stray in July of 2024 by the same shelter. My friends at the shelter were shocked at my state. I was extremely underweight, my body was full of wounds and scars, I was defeated by life, but somehow, I was still so excited to see them! The shelter staff healed my wounds and took great care of me! They have taught me how to sit, stay, come, shake and walk like a gentleman on a leash! My friends at the shelter all loved me so much that while I waited for my ride to Maine, they got me a room at a dog hotel! They know I love to meet new dog friends and human friends! They even sent me with toys to my new foster home because they know how I like to play! I also get to go on car rides that I just LOVE. I sleep every time! I think adventures are great! I am enjoying Maine but would really love a forever home where I can snuggle and be loved. Ramsey is ready to be your BEST FRIEND!! Ramsey loves other dogs and all people but can not live with cats. https://form.jotform.com/242237497275162

Story
Herbie is a lovable 70-pound Boxer mix with a heart full of gold. About a year old, he was found wandering the back roads of Tennessee without a collar or microchip, battling a tough case of mange. While no one has come forward to claim him, Herbie is now looking for his forever family! His skin is healing beautifully, and his sweet, curious nature shines through more each day. ‍&#226&#153&#130&#239&#184&#143 Herbie enjoys his daily walks and is getting better at leash manners. He’s also learning to curb his excitement when greeting people! He’s great with other dogs and, after playtime, is happy to sit quietly by your side. He hasn’t been tested with cats or kids yet, but we think his gentle personality would be a great match for the right home!
