Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Pibbles was a stray dog that had been spotted by some locals.  She was shy and was unsure if she wanted to be took in or not.  It was the middle of January and it was very cold.  She came in very underweight and scared.  After some good food and care she became healthy, and is now ready for a forever home.  She loves playing with Wallace and they are scene running in and out of their house playing and barking. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.October 27, 2024, 7:39 pm

Story
Pebbles is about 7 years old, and Ive had her since she was about 1. She is a big playful, energetic, hilarious, expressive, loving, loyal, snuggly baby. Pebbles loves sunbathing and being outside. She catches treats (lettuce is her favorite! I'm serious!), enjoys puzzle and treat-dispensing toys, and loves tug of war. She has been so receptive to new rules and routines, and has always been an excellent walker, well potty-trained, and can stay home alone without issue--though she will VERY MUCH miss you and meet you at the door with elation. You should be experienced, calm, and active (exercising her is vital). She prefers women but could adjust to a gentle, very patient dad. She needs socializing with people--Pebbles isn't good with sudden shouting, men drinking, or groups on her turf. Pebbles has co-habitated with two tiny yorkies pretty well, so with the right transition and skilled parent she should adapt to living with other pups; chases bunnies; reptiles ok; birds and cats N/A.

Story
Meet Sue - Blind/Hard of Hearing - Coming Soon Sue is currently tied up in a cruelty case but will be available soon. She is an all white pocket pittie (Petfinder does not have that an an option. These are also sometimes called micro bullies) She weighs only about 30lbs and is full grown. She is around four years old, super sweet and cuddly, and is blind and has partial hearing loss. Sue is WONDERFUL and gets around just fine once she learns the lay of the land. I have hosted her at my home several times, and will continue to do so. I have found her to be the perfect little houseguest. She takes some time to figure out the perimeter of her spaces, but once she does, as long as you make sure she doesn't bump into anything while she settles in, she is a really happy go lucky dog. Sue did well with the two dogs she met, she didn't play, but was happy to be in their presence. I don't think that a very playful dog would work, but a mellow one would be just fine. I believe she will do well with cats and children, too! I have a ramp that leads off of my deck to my backyard and she mastered that after only a few days of working on it. She is crate trained, potty trained, and ready to start her new advernture. Sue has been granted a Handsome Dan's Rescue Take My Lead grant giving her up to $500 in free private training and supplies. Sue's TML trainer is Erin of downtoearthdoglady.com. The sessions will be virtual as Erin is in PA, but I have already talked to her and she's excited to get started helping Sue transition into her forever home and help Sue's new folks set her up for success! For info on Sue please email heather@obhounds.com or to apply go to HandsomeDan'sRescue.org. Thank you for choosing rescue!

Story
Meet Dwight Schrute Meet Handsome Dan's Rescue for Pit Bull Type Dogs newest foster dog! Dwight Schrute ? **Welcome Dwight Schrute to the HDR foster care!** We had the honor of pulling this big lug from Warwick Animal Shelter, into Handsome Dan's Rescue. Here’s what I know about our sweet boy so far: He’s a 10-month-old XL bully. He came to the shelter with his canine family - his sister is still at the shelter and she's absolutely stunning! AND, the dog who we speculate to be his mother is being adopted by volunteer Jen!!! Dwight is a big, goofy puppy full of spunk and personality. While he’s a bit fearful of doorways and new experiences, I’m confident he’ll overcome those fears with some patience and love ?. Dwight has never met a stranger, he’s absolutely lovely. He’s also dog-friendly and would thrive in a home where he can either have some time to himself or with another dog that can help teach him the ropes. He’s still learning that appropriate play doesn’t involve body slams, but he’s eager to learn! His favorite activities include squeaky toys and playing tug, so if you’re looking for a fun-loving companion, he’s your guy! We can’t wait to see how Dwight blossoms in this new environment. He’s going to make someone a truly wonderful pet! Stay tuned for more updates on his journey. Thank you for choosing rescue.

Story
Woodrow is a super smart, lovable and silly dog. We fell in love with his little face when we saw him on the adoption site from Pit Patter Junction in Arkansas. Him and his siblings were found in the woods by a hiker and was brought to the rescue shelter. Woodrow will be 2 years old in December and is been fun watching him grow. We live in a small city and our neighborhood is pretty congested with a lot of dogs in the area. And we don't have a big yard for Woodrow to play. He is very reactive towards dogs and I believe it's because he doesnt socialize much. Our family have all had schedule changes that make it hard to accommodate Woodrow's need for play. And after we got him, we found out 3 out of 4 family members are allergic to dogs! We have done our best to handle it but we feel Woodrow needs a large space to run around. Woodrow's reactivity to dogs would require proper training. But he is just the best and we are sad to see him go but know that he needs more than we can give him
