Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Porkchop!! This handsome dude is around 4 years old, and 60 pounds of personality! Porkchop is seeking a super stable home, with an experienced dog owner.  He can be your couch potato partner if you bribe him with belly rubs, or your backyard companion helping to rid the yard of birds and squirrels (and tennis balls, too!).  Porkchop is super food motivated, so it was easy to train him to sit and we know he'll do great learning lots of other new commands.  He loves to be with his person, and can be somewhat standoffish with new people or situations.  Porkchop will need to be your only dog in the home, or possibly paired with a very docile and confident larger female dog.  Pushy or over friendly dogs don't mesh well with his personality.  No kids or cats for Porkchop, please! Porkchop can be  a vocal dog, he will talk and grumble at you to let you know what he's thinking - we think it’s pretty cute!  Porkchop's adoption fee is $250 and includes his neuter, microchip and current vaccinations and preventatives PLUS a free basic obedience course at Cedar Run Company in Hiawatha.  Last Hope requires that potential adopters current animals be altered, current on vaccinations and preventatives and be kept as indoor pets only.  Our adoption process includes reference and background checks, a vet check and a home visit.  Please submit an adoption application for consideration through our website.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 4, 2024, 6:20 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Hoagie!! We just love this smushy faced boy, he needs an owner who will help him to grow his confidence in the world; introduce him to new experiences and provide slow social introductions to other dogs and people.  We don't know Hoagie's full background, but it's clear he was badly injured before joining Last Hope.  His back end is weak, and x-rays have shown old injuries that have since fused.  Hoagie does take prescription medicine for this and will need to continue on this long-term for pain/joint management. Hoagie might be a fit with another young, playful dog around his size or he would love to be your #1 guy.  He is not a fit with small dogs and is also not a fit with children under 16. He doesn't mind cats, as long as they have their own dedicated space should they want a break from him. Hoagie will love playing in your fenced in back yard, and then cuddling on the couch...but be warned, he's a snorer! Hoagie can be very wary of men, so he needs a patient and kind owner who is prepared for introducing him slowly to new people.    Hoagie's adoption fee is $250 and includes his neuter, microchip, current vaccinations and preventatives plus a FREE basic obedience course at Cedar Run Pet Boarding in Hiawatha.  Last Hope requires that all animals be kept as indoor pets only, be altered and current on vaccinations and preventatives. Our adoption process includes reference and background checks, a vet check and a home visit as well as multiple meet and greets for dogs. Story
Hi, I'm Zoey! Not to toot my own horn but I am literally the sweetest 6 year old Boxer/Terrier mix you will ever meet. A few months ago, I got lost with my sister and someone found us running by a highway. They picked us up and took us to a local shelter where no one came to claim us. I was a staff favorite at the shelter but that setting was not good for me. That's why some really nice people came and took me to a foster home instead. I really love living in a home with people who show me love and kindness. My foster family says I'm special because of my resilience. You see, I am a shy girl that does the best with other dogs. They bring out my true self. Watching me open up and blossom in such a short time has filled their hearts with love. I've gone from a shy girl to a playful and affectionate companion, and I'm ready to bring joy to my forever family.. One of the cutest things about me is how I tilt my head when I'm curious-it always makes my foster family smile. And guess what? I love having my nails painted! It's like a little spa day just for me. Speaking of activities, I have a few favorites. I absolutely love playing ball-throw it, and I'll chase it for hours. Going on walks is another favorite; there's so much to see and sniff! When I'm not playing or walking, you can find me sunbathing, soaking up the warmth and relaxing. To help me continue to thrive, I need a home with another confident dog who can show me the ropes. Having a furry friend around helps me feel more confident and comfortable. Patience is key, too. I need a bit of time to fully open up and show you all the love I have to give. I get along well with other dogs, though I'm not sure about cats yet. When meeting new people, I can be a bit shy, but if you give me the space to get comfortable and do my own thing, I'll warm up in no time. I've never shown any aggression-just a little patience and kindness is all I need. With people I know, I'm a total "wiggle butt"! I get so excited and happy to see my favorite humans. I love kisses, belly rubs, and lots of attention. My foster family calls me their little speckled cow because of the black dots on my belly and the trail of water I leave after drinking water-it's my special quirk! The ideal home for me is one with an active family who has at least one other confident dog and loves to throw the ball for me. I also enjoy my spa days, especially when I'm pampered with a bath, some coconut oil on my belly and ears, and a manicure. If you're looking for a smart, loving, and playful companion, I'm your girl. I promise to shower you with love and bring endless joy to your life. I can't wait to find a forever family that will spoil me and shower me with the love I deserve. Zoey is up to date on vaccinations, heartworm tested, microchipped and spayed. She would do best in a home with a physically fenced yard so he can run and play safely. Applications to meet Zoey can be submitted at: https://www.aplanimalrescue.org/dogs
