Story
Hi! I'm Shino! Since you're reading this, you're obviously looking for a new best friend-and, hey, so am I! I'm a 6 yr old Akita. Neutered and up to date on all that wellness stuff. I was adopted by a family 4 years ago, but they had to give me up when they couldn't care for me any longer. Loosing my home has been rough, so I'm looking for a new one! How about yours? You probably want to know more about me. Hmmm...I am a big cuddly guy with a big heart. I am a pretty typical akita: loyal, loving, and playful with my family but aloof with strangers. I missed out on some vital socializing with my last family, so I prefer to be the only kid in the house (both human and dog). My last human was female, so I am partial to them. But I will warm up to men with a little patience. A home that speaks Akita is preferred (aka akita breed experience). If you want to meet up act fast! My fabulous cuddle skills won't stick around long. Adoption fee will be waived for enrollment in obedience training. Adoption process requires: completed application, meet ups to ensure compatibility, and a home visit. Please contact Denise Whitmore to schedule a meet-up or for more information. He is up to date on vaccines, microchipped, heartworm negative, on flea/heartworm prevention, house trained, crate trained, and leash trained. Valerian was surrenderd to the shelter in Chesapeake, VA when the owner could no longer care for him. He had previously lived outside in a pen and was uncertain and stand off-ish when he first came to us, but he warmed up to a goofy, woo-ing, wiggle butt boy. He is just so sweet! Valerian would be fine in a home with children 12+ due to his high energy level and as an only pet.

Chandler

Husky Mixed Breed (Medium)

Male, Puppy
Virginia Beach, VA
Size
(when grown) Med. 26-60 lbs (12-27 kg)
Details
Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Chandler is an older husky mix puppy that came to us from a local transfer partner. Chandler did not come from the best situation, but he is working hard to put that behind him and be the best boy he can be! Chandler has received very little training and socialization outside of what our staff and volunteers can provide, so he needs a very patient and understanding family who can work on this. He is a loving goofball who knows just how cute he is, and he's always flopping around on the ground demanding more belly rubs! Chandler also enjoys the company of another canine - preferably a younger and energetic canine who can play with him all day long. Because he can be a little hyper, we are requiring a meet and greet with all members of the family - dogs included. If you would like to meet Chandler or have further questions please see our kennel staff who will be happy to help.

(when grown) Large 61-100 lbs (28-45 kg)
Details
Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Meet PJ, this active high energy pup was brought back after not doing well with young children in the home. Due to this we are requiring children 12 and up in her future home. PJ will need a family that can help build her confidence, burn her energy, and help her to be the best companion dog we know she can be! While PJ loves to play and interact with other dogs she is a bit awkward and will need to have introductions with any resident canines in her future home. PJ would greatly benefit from some one on one training as well. If you would like to meet this sweet and goofy pup please speak with our kennel staff and they will be happy to help!

Story
HAKU - 1-5 years old, 60 pounds, nervous behind bars, friendlier outside Haku arrived at VBACAC as a stray, another one where you can comprehend how this beautiful big husky was not reclaimed. But he's here and ready to find a new home.  Haku has been reactive behind the cage bars but he is slowly warming up to us. You can't blame him for this. He is in unfamiliar territory in a shelter with people he does not know.  He's a working dog. He’s an active dog who would benefit from an active adopter. No children due to handling sensitivity. Do you have husky experience? Do your research before considering adoption.  Haku is proving to be a dog friendly boy who seems to enjoy our shelter playgroup with the other dogs. He is a gentle boy, doesn't do the rough and tough tumbling like others but instead, trots around, sniffing, enjoy a water break in the kiddie pool every now and then.  Haku is currently in a back kennel so if you don't see him, please just ask.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 2, 2024, 6:29 pm
