Story
Hi, my name is Dagen! Believe it or not, I was found astray, and no one came looking for me. I am a handsome young Akita, and the shelter is no place for a big pup like me. True to my breed I am headstrong and very intelligent. I am looking for my furever home with someone who has experience with Akita`s or dogs with a similar temperament. I have some mild handling sensitivity and I ask that any children in the home be 8 and older, as well as dog-savvy. I may enjoy canine companionship, which could help keep me on my best behavior. I am not sure how I feel about cats but I am open to trying with proper introduction. Once I let my initial guard down I am a very affectionate, loyal, and kind-hearted dog. If I am what you are looking for then come on over and let`s meet!---If you are interested in adopting, please come prepared --bring a photo ID, proof of address, and everyone in the home including resident dogs with vaccination history. We are open daily 12-6pm.---The Pennsylvania SPCA - Lancaster Center848 S. Prince St. Lancaster PA 17603Kennel #16516717-917-6979lancaster@pspca.org

Story
Please allow us to introduce this handsome, gentle dog. This is Lance, a 2yr old, neutered male, Akita who weighs around 100lbs. Lance is looking for a strong, confident person who has time for some bonding. Please read his full description below to see if your home is a good match for him. Lance needs a fenced yard that is attached to your house to keep him safe at home. The fence needs to be 6 foot or higher and needs to be strong and secure. Lance is a thinker and will see if he can get through doors and gates. Lance's best times here have been around other dogs. He is so good with our small and large dogs and he really enjoys interacting with them. We have seen Lance bond with one of our Animal Handlers here and it is wonderful to see. He is happy, wags his tail, plays and runs with her. He comes when she calls him, licks her to say hello and really finds his confidence when she is around. It took some time for him to learn to trust her. Because of Lance's history, we are requiring his home to have another dog that gets along with Lance.   He has a gentle, low key personality. He is trying to figure out how to trust people and acts like he has not been with a person long enough where he could learn to bond until he came here. He is powerful and needs someone who can hold onto him if he is in a new situation. If he is nervous, he will put on the breaks and lay down or he will pull you to go faster. Lance is intelligent and food motivated. He would do well with someone who is calm, patient and gives him time to just hang out and get used to you. This beautiful dog has great potential with the right person who will spend time bonding with him. You can visit him during our Animal Viewing Hours below. If you have any questions about Lance, call our Adoption Coordinator, Jessica, at 410-313-2780 Option 0. Location: Howard County Animal Control and Adoption Center 8576 Davis Rd Columbia, MD 21045 Animal Viewing Hours: Mon, Wed, Fri 10:00-4:30 (Closed at 2:30 the last Friday of each month) Tues & Thurs 1:30-6:45 Sat 10:00-2:00 (Closed on county observed holidays and holiday weekends.)  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 18, 2024, 9:42 am

Story
Skipjack is a delightful and stunning 2-year-old Akita mix currently in a foster home. Skipjack loves adventure and he would thrive with an active person or family. In his home there aren't children, but they do visit! He does well with an 8 and 13 year old but may be a little too bouncy for small children. Initially shy, Skipjack reveals his goofy and affectionate nature once he warms up. He loves belly rubs and can’t get enough of the water, often splashing around in the dog pool. He does have a bit of a prey drive and might get distracted by rabbits or squirrels on walks, but he generally walks well on a leash. He would also prefer a home without cats. Skipjack is a sweetheart, responding well to direction and training, but he will need a committed owner to continue his training. He hasn’t had any accidents in his designated space and he is crate trained. He is generally well behaved, he is working on his excitement when meeting new people! Skipjack is a lovable, high-energy dog who would be a great companion for an active individual or family willing to continue his training and provide him with the attention he needs. You must be over 21 and a home owner to adopt me. Please visit www.pittiesandpurrs.org to fill out an application. For further information contact adoptpitties@gmail.com

Story
Meet Shelly! This sweet pup is looking for her furever home. We think she may be a husky/shepherd mix, roughly a year old, and currently 52lbs. Shelly is current on flea treatment, dewormed, vaccinations, heartworm treatment and is spayed. She is excellent on a leash, redirects well, gets along with other dogs, and does well with older children. She has been amazing with going outside for potty time. Shelly would do well with an active family who can play with her in the back yard and take her on adventures. She is great in the car and was good for her bath time. Shelly is currently being fostered in Gettysburg, PA. Application can be found at https://pinkdogrescue.org/application/ Lic #17216

ADOPT ME ONLINE: https://ophrescue.org/dogs/13900Meet Cato – The Perfect Family Dog with All the Husky Charm! Name: CatoGender: MaleBreed: Husky MixAge: 3 yearsWeight: 80 lbsCurrent Location: Gettysburg, PAAbout Cato Hi! I’m Cato, a 3-year-old Husky mix with a gentle spirit and a big heart for family. At 80 pounds, I’m a strong, affectionate guy with the classic Husky look—striking coloring, soft, thick fur, and eyes that stay attentive to my people and everything around me.Personality I’m a sweet, curious, and playful dog who adores being part of the family. Huskies like me are known for being social, and I’m no exception! I’m calm and friendly, always ready to meet new people or just hang out with my humans. From the toddler who pets my face to the cat who strolls by, I take everything in stride, making me a great fit for any family dynamic. I’m also naturally quiet and don’t bark much—just lots of affection!Energy Level Huskies are known for their energy and love of activity, and I’m no different. I have an energetic side that loves to run, but I’m equally happy to relax and soak up some attention. Whether it’s a walk around the neighborhood or an adventure to the park, I’m game for anything, and I’ve got a loose-leash style that makes walking a breeze. I even have great recall, so I’m ready to come back when called, especially when I’m with my family.Skills and Training I come with the best manners: I’m fully housetrained and can use a doggy door if you have one. I’m crate-trained too, although I don’t mind sleeping outside of the crate if that’s your preference. I know basic commands like “sit,” “down,” and “kennel,” so I’m ready to fit right in. And I’m always polite on a leash—though I may get a little excited if I see a squirrel or bunny!Companionship If you’re looking for a loyal family companion, I’m your perfect match! I’m great with dynamic, affectionate kids and other pets. Huskies like me are known for their loyalty and intelligence, and I’ll show you my affection with lots of gentle attention. I’m very people-oriented, always curious about what you’re up to, and I’m as comfortable in new situations as I am by your side.More Fun Husky Facts Huskies are known for their incredible endurance and intelligence, having been bred for sledding and adventure. Our fur is thick, soft, and perfect for pets—and we have a natural elegance that turns heads! Like a true Husky, I’m attentive and alert, always observing the world around me. My coat is not only beautiful but also easy to maintain with a little brushing. We Huskies are famous for our social, friendly nature, and we form strong bonds with our people, making us fantastic family dogs.Love and Affection With my soft fur, stunning coloring, and love of adventure, I’m ready to be your forever friend. If you’re looking for a loyal, loving, and friendly Husky mix to join your family, look no further! Please note: This dog tested positive for heartworm disease before arriving to the rescue. Heartworm disease is transmitted to a dog through a bite from an infected mosquito producing a positive test in six months. The dog was treated for the disease prior to transport north. Potential adopters will receive detailed information on the disease and their role in completing the recovery process from OPH’s heartworm coordinator. With monthly preventatives, the disease is completely preventable. Read more about heartworm disease here.
