Story
Please allow us to introduce this handsome, gentle dog. This is Lance, a 2yr old, neutered male, Akita who weighs around 100lbs. Lance is looking for a strong, confident person who has time for some bonding. Please read his full description below to see if your home is a good match for him. He is temporarily in a foster home.Lance needs a fenced yard that is attached to your house to keep him safe at home. The fence needs to be 6 foot or higher and needs to be strong and secure. Lance is a thinker and will see if he can get through doors and gates. Lance's best times here have been around other dogs. He is so good with our small and large dogs and he really enjoys interacting with them. We have seen Lance bond with one of our Animal Handlers here and it is wonderful to see. He is happy, wags his tails, plays and runs with her, comes when she calls him, licks her to say hello and really finds his confidence when she is around. It took some time for him to learn to trust her. Because of Lance's history, we are requiring his home have another dog that gets along with Lance. You can bring your dog to the shelter during our Animal Viewing Hours below. He has a gentle, low key personality. He is trying to figure out how to trust people and acts like he has not been with a person long enough where he could learn to bond until he came here. He is powerful and needs someone who can hold onto him if he is in a new situation. If he is nervous, he will put on the breaks and lay down or he will pull you to go faster. Lance is intelligent and food motivated. He would do well with someone who is calm, patient and gives him time to just hang out and get used to you. This beautiful dog has great potential with the right person who will spend time bonding with him.   ****Lance is in a Foster home to give him time out of the shelter. In order to visit him, please call our Adoption Coordinator to discuss setting up a visit. 410-313-2780 Option 0.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 4, 2024, 1:25 pm

Please contact Paul Slebzak (pauls@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.gorgeous husky mix ISO love and central air! GLORIA NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Gloria     Best Guess for Breed:  Akita and shepherd mix Best Guess for Age:   6 years as of November 2024     Gender: Female Approximate Weight:   49 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen her with kids or cats but she can be tested Currently Living At: Lucky Dog's South Carolina rescue campus; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to come up after completing heartworm treatment Special Adoption Considerations: Gloria is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs.  All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care.  After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months.  We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left! Gloria Is Looking For: Her forever home! She landed in the shelter through no fault of her own, and can't wait to once again have her own humans. She's eager for long sniffy walks and all the adventures her new family can dream up. Note her thick, dense coat. She has a preference for adventures in cool places - the mountains over the beach, Vermont or Montana, and oh yeah - Starbucks for pup cups. And quality kibble and and a cushy dog bed are on her wish list too. But you know what she wants most of all? To know where she belongs, to know who her people are, and to be safe and loved. In exchange, she offers her stockpile of adoring gazes and loyal companionship for all her days.  What My Foster Says About Me: We will update this once she has arrived in the DC area and spent some time with her foster Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. Story
We got Frankie as a rescue 7 years ago when she was 5 months old. We have 3 young children who have all grown up with her and she is super sweet with them and all their friends that come over to play. Everyone that comes into our home loves her and says she's the sweetest. When people come into the house, she's excited to meet them, but usually settles down quickly and she's typically pretty mellow and calm in the house. She loves sitting on the couch looking out the front window, laying in the back yard basking in the sun, taking walks in the neighborhood, and chasing balls and other toys outside. She's always a fan of belly rubs. We love her dearly, but she is not good with other dogs. She has had a few incidents with other dogs in the neighborhood when our young kids left the front door open and she ran out. We think she would do better in a home with no other pets and either an area without dogs walking by or the chance of her getting out.

Story
We adopted Skyy in April from her previous owner. My previous dog who was 17 years old passed in late 2019 and I felt I was finally able to be a dog owner again. About three months after having my son in March he started to exhibit symptoms of an allergy (itchy skin, sneezing, occasional wheezing). We had him tested as well as myself and unfortunately we are both now allergic to dog dander. Since my son is well below 5 years old, our allergist is unable to begin treatment for his allergies, and suggested we put her up for adoption.
