My name is Nala! I am a beautiful 1 year old American Akita. Unfortunately my family had a medical emergency and could no longer care for me. I'm here looking for a new forever home. I'm a very sweet girl! I know basic commands, I'm house broken, crate trained and have been around people of many ages and many dogs! I love to play, I love treats and I am very polite and well mannered. Feel free to stop by and meet me I will greet you with wagging tail and kisses!

Story
Please allow us to introduce this handsome, gentle dog. This is Lance, a 2yr old, neutered male, Akita who weighs around 100lbs. Lance is looking for a strong, confident person who has time for some bonding. Please read his full description below to see if your home is a good match for him. He is temporarily in a foster home.Lance needs a fenced yard that is attached to your house to keep him safe at home. The fence needs to be 6 foot or higher and needs to be strong and secure. Lance is a thinker and will see if he can get through doors and gates. Lance's best times here have been around other dogs. He is so good with our small and large dogs and he really enjoys interacting with them. We have seen Lance bond with one of our Animal Handlers here and it is wonderful to see. He is happy, wags his tails, plays and runs with her, comes when she calls him, licks her to say hello and really finds his confidence when she is around. It took some time for him to learn to trust her. Because of Lance's history, we are requiring his home have another dog that gets along with Lance. You can bring your dog to the shelter during our Animal Viewing Hours below. He has a gentle, low key personality. He is trying to figure out how to trust people and acts like he has not been with a person long enough where he could learn to bond until he came here. He is powerful and needs someone who can hold onto him if he is in a new situation. If he is nervous, he will put on the breaks and lay down or he will pull you to go faster. Lance is intelligent and food motivated. He would do well with someone who is calm, patient and gives him time to just hang out and get used to you. This beautiful dog has great potential with the right person who will spend time bonding with him.   ****Lance is in a Foster home to give him time out of the shelter. In order to visit him, please call our Adoption Coordinator to discuss setting up a visit. 410-313-2780 Option 0.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 4, 2024, 1:25 pm

Story
Hi I am the strong and handsome Dakota. I came to the shelter as a stray so not much is known about me. I am a nice dog and friendly with most people that I meet. I have some training, I understand sit and I love to be pet. I`m pretty smart if I do say so myself! The staff here have been working on my `dog sociability` as I am still trying to figure other dogs out.Interested in adopting me? We recommend submitting a general online adoption application and then heading to the shelter during our normal adoption hours (Mon: 12-4pm and Tues-Sun: 12-5pm) to meet our available animals. Please note: all applications are considered general until the animal has been met. If you have any questions, please contact animalcenter@bmorehumane.org or 410-833-8848 Ext/Opt 2.

Story
We got Frankie as a rescue 7 years ago when she was 5 months old. We have 3 young children who have all grown up with her and she is super sweet with them and all their friends that come over to play. Everyone that comes into our home loves her and says she's the sweetest. When people come into the house, she's excited to meet them, but usually settles down quickly and she's typically pretty mellow and calm in the house. She loves sitting on the couch looking out the front window, laying in the back yard basking in the sun, taking walks in the neighborhood, and chasing balls and other toys outside. She's always a fan of belly rubs. We love her dearly, but she is not good with other dogs. She has had a few incidents with other dogs in the neighborhood when our young kids left the front door open and she ran out. We think she would do better in a home with no other pets and either an area without dogs walking by or the chance of her getting out.
