Aki - A506551This elegant Akita mix has a quiet, independent spirit. He isn’t the type to seek out attention from just anyone, but that’s part of what makes him special. True to his breed, he’s likely to form a deep, unshakable bond with the person willing to earn his trust. Once he decides you’re his person, you’ll have a fiercely loyal companion for life.Akitas are known for their intelligence, dignity, and strong protective instincts. Akitas tend to be reserved with strangers but deeply devoted to their families. They thrive with patient, experienced owners who understand their independent nature.Right now, Aki`s still figuring out the world around him, taking his time to observe and decide who’s worthy of his affection. If you’re looking for a dog who will love you with quiet devotion once he warms up, Aki may be the perfect match. Aki is available to all adopters! Please contact Paul Slebzak (pauls@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.gorgeous akita mix ISO love and central air! GLORIA NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Gloria     Best Guess for Breed:  Akita and shepherd mix Best Guess for Age:   6 years as of November 2024     Gender: Female Approximate Weight:   49 lbs Gets Along With: Gloria lives with other dogs in her foster home. We haven't seen her with kids but she can be tested. Gloria should not go to a home with cats.  Currently Living At: DC area foster home. Special Adoption Considerations: Gloria is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs.  All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care.  After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months.  We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left! Gloria Is Looking For: Her forever home! She landed in the shelter through no fault of her own, and can't wait to once again have her own humans. She's eager for long sniffy walks and all the adventures her new family can dream up. Note her thick, dense coat. She has a preference for adventures in cool places - the mountains over the beach, Vermont or Montana, and oh yeah - Starbucks for pup cups. And quality kibble and and a cushy dog bed are on her wish list too. But you know what she wants most of all? To know where she belongs, to know who her people are, and to be safe and loved. In exchange, she offers her stockpile of adoring gazes and loyal companionship for all her days.  What My Foster Says About Me: Gloria is a great dog.  She walks well on leash, and hasn't had an accident in the house since I got her.  She can sit and stay (with treats).  She is very treat-motivated.  She interacts well with my dogs, and she is not noisy at all! Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. NEED FOSTER HOME FOR ONE OF THE MIXED PUPPIES FROM KIKKI'S STAR WARS LITTER!! Meet Hera, a loving, energetic companion looking for a foster or forever home. Hera is a charming dog with a heart full of loyalty and affection. She can be shy upon initially meeting someone, but adapts quickly. Once comfortable, her playful spirit and boundless energy shine through. Hera enjoys walks and is currently building confidence on leash. She has been fostered in a multi-animal home and gets along with other dogs very well. She sometimes needs a reminder to give the cats some space. She is potty trained as well as crate trained although she can be anxious when left alone at times. A calm, male companion would be ideal for her. Her foster home is currently working on basic training, including some tricks. She is very smart but can be stubborn. You will need some creativity to keep her engaged while training. Several short sessions as opposed to a long one. If you are looking for a devoted friend who will bring joy and enthusiasm into your life, Hera might be a match. Her lovable personality would ensure her becoming a cherished part of your family!! She is very smart and needs an owner who will engage her brain: obedience, fast cat, agility.  Prefer owners with some previous experience with dogs.  She will be spayed prior to placement.  See more pix and video at https://www.facebook.com/akitarescue.org/Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 4, 2024, 12:00 am

Story
Mama Kiki and her 2 week old puppies luckily landed in the shelter as strays.  The shelter contacted rescue, we were lucky to find a temporary foster and then regular foster home for them.  She will be available once her puppies are weaned and she is spayed.  Both foster homes say she is very sweet and food oriented.  She was bone thin when she came to us, probably having been in poor shape before her pregnancy.  Watch her blossom once she is no longer feeding her pups. The oicture of her wwith the white Akita is her meeting and interacting with him, the resident dog at the foster home.See more pix and  video of mom and her pups at https://www.facebook.com/akitarescue.org/  Ashoka and Omega have applications on them.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 4, 2024, 12:00 am
