Story
Skipjack is a delightful and stunning 2-year-old Akita mix currently in a foster home. Skipjack loves adventure and he would thrive with an active person or family. In his home there aren't children, but they do visit! He does well with an 8 and 13 year old but may be a little too bouncy for small children. Initially shy, Skipjack reveals his goofy and affectionate nature once he warms up. He loves belly rubs and can’t get enough of the water, often splashing around in the dog pool. He does have a bit of a prey drive and might get distracted by rabbits or squirrels on walks, but he generally walks well on a leash. He would also prefer a home without cats. Skipjack is a sweetheart, responding well to direction and training, but he will need a committed owner to continue his training. He hasn’t had any accidents in his designated space and he is crate trained. He is generally well behaved, he is working on his excitement when meeting new people! Skipjack is a lovable, high-energy dog who would be a great companion for an active individual or family willing to continue his training and provide him with the attention he needs. You must be over 21 and a home owner to adopt me. Please visit www.pittiesandpurrs.org to fill out an application. For further information contact adoptpitties@gmail.com

Story
Bought new as puppies from a breeder in PA. Born september 2018, they are from the same litter (sisters) and just turned 6. They play hard/rough with each other in a large fenced in yard. They have had Zero interaction socially with other dogs, or kids so it is unknown how they would react in those situations. They are used to free-roaming in the yard and do not go on walks, nor like leashes/harnesses at this time. My father passed, and I cannot look after the dogs on my own. They should have a new home, with fenced in yard, and someone who can interact / check on them, without being away for 10 hours + each day. Angel (black) will bark at any/all strangers, while Buffy (tan) will sit /lay down and wait to be petted.

Story
Hi, my name is Dagen! Believe it or not, I was found astray, and no one came looking for me. I am a handsome young Akita, and the shelter is no place for a big pup like me. True to my breed I am headstrong and very intelligent. I am looking for my furever home with someone who has experience with Akita`s or dogs with a similar temperament. I have some mild handling sensitivity and I ask that any children in the home be 8 and older, as well as dog-savvy. I may enjoy canine companionship, which could help keep me on my best behavior. I am not sure how I feel about cats but I am open to trying with proper introduction. Once I let my initial guard down I am a very affectionate, loyal, and kind-hearted dog. If I am what you are looking for then come on over and let`s meet!---If you are interested in adopting, please come prepared --bring a photo ID, proof of address, and everyone in the home including resident dogs with vaccination history. We are open daily 12-6pm.---The Pennsylvania SPCA - Lancaster Center848 S. Prince St. Lancaster PA 17603Kennel #16516717-917-6979lancaster@pspca.org

Story
lease allow us to introduce this handsome, gentle dog. This is Lance, a 2yr old, neutered male, Akita who weighs around 100lbs. Lance is looking for a strong, confident person who has experience with this breed or a similar breed. He is looking for someone who has time for some bonding. Please read his full description below to see if your home is a good match for him.Lance needs a fenced yard that is attached to your house to keep him safe at home. The fence needs to be 6 foot or higher and needs to be strong and secure. Lance is a thinker and will see if he can get through doors and gates. Lance's best times here have been around other dogs. He is so good with our small and large dogs and he really enjoys interacting with them. We have seen Lance bond with one of our Animal Handlers here and it is wonderful to see. He is happy, wags his tail, plays and runs with her. He comes when she calls him, licks her to say hello and really finds his confidence when she is around. It took some time for him to learn to trust her. Because of Lance's history, we are requiring his home to have another dog that gets along with Lance. He has a gentle, low key personality. He is trying to figure out how to trust people and acts like he has not been with a person long enough where he could learn to bond until he came here. He is powerful and needs someone who can hold onto him if he is in a new situation. If he is nervous, he will put on the breaks and lay down or he will pull you to go faster. Lance is intelligent and food motivated. He would do well with someone who is calm, patient and gives him time to just hang out and get used to you. This beautiful dog has great potential with the right person who will spend time bonding with him. You can visit him during our Animal Viewing Hours below.
