Story
Fifi came to us when her owner passed away.  She is quite overweight and is now on a responsible weight loss plan from our vet. A combo of lower calorie food and good exercise.   When Fifi first arrived at her foster home she was extremely anxious and spent most of her days hiding under the bed.  As the weeks have gone on, she has become much less anxious and more interested in being with her foster family and engaged in spending time in the living room, or wherever the humans are.   If she does become frightened or overwhelmed (which is much less often) she will go into the bedroom and find her safe space under the bed (but not often now) Fifi lives with a couple of other dogs and ignores them for the most part.  If they come near her treats or food she may growl or snark at them to tell them to buzz off and leave her goodies alone.  She could live with another dog, but needs to eat separately and if she has a treat, the other dogs will need to give her space.  Now that she has woven into daily life and knows the other dogs better, she doesn't snark or growl much anymore. She is not an overly demonstrative dog but does lay by the foster mom and enjoys being pet under the chin and behind her ears.  She does not seem comfortable getting cuddled or snuggled.  If people come to visit she barks at them and may follow them from behind and nip at their pant legs but will stop now when redirected and has never made contact or bitten anyone.  She loves going for walks and is easy to walk; it seems she was taken for walks with a previous owner and she has nice manners and good experience with harness and leash and waits for you to put it on.  When getting ready for walks she is most demonstrative.  She would be fine for an apartment as she's not a vocal dog - only barks when people first come into the house and is quiet again  Fifi is housetrained, good when left alone and not a big barker.  She snores while sleeping and sleeps on a large donut bed. She is a lovely little dog, a bit quirky but once she trusts you she will follow and wag her tail for you.  She was good at the vet and did not show any signs of aggression while being examined and not even when her anal glands had to be emptied She is approximately 5 years old and weighs 13 pounds which is overweight as noted.  No medical issues December 10, 2024, 10:53 am

Story
Quick Facts  Name: Milo Age: 3 years old (born October 2021)   Gender: Male Neutered/Sprayed: Yes Breed: Yorkie Colour: Black & Brown Weight: 4.5kg My Story Hi there! I’m Milo, a 3-year-old Yorkshire Terrier with a soft black-and-brown coat and a heart as big as my tiny frame. At just 4.5 kg (9.9 lbs), I may be small, but I’m bursting with personality and charm. Rescued from a shelter where my future was uncertain, I’m now looking for a loving forever family to call my own. My Personality I’m a people pup through and through! I love meeting new faces and will happily nuzzle up to strangers or friends alike for a little attention. Pick me up for some cuddles, and I’ll settle right into your arms. I haven’t had much experience with kids, but I’m gentle and would likely thrive with respectful little humans. When it comes to other dogs, I’m polite and won’t shy away from saying hello. However, I prefer my own company or calmer canine companions—I don’t have much patience for bossy pups. I’ll let them know with a small bark if they cross a line, but I’d rather avoid conflict altogether. My Energy Level & Walks I have a balanced energy level: I love exploring the outdoors and going for walks, but I’m just as happy curling up at home afterward. I’m well-behaved on a leash and follow along without pulling, making walks an enjoyable experience for both of us. At home, I’m flexible with both indoor potty pads and outdoor bathroom breaks, so I adapt easily to different routines. Why You’ll Love Me I’m the perfect mix of sweet and spunky! My small size and fluffy coat make me as cute as a plush toy, but my affectionate nature and playful spirit are what truly set me apart. I love to be around people and will follow you everywhere, showering you with love and loyalty. Last Message I thrive as the center of attention, so I’d do best in a home where I can be the main focus or with other mellow pets. With a little space to let my personality shine, I’ll reward you with endless love, snuggles, and my happy energy. If you’re ready to add a tiny bundle of joy to your life, I’m here waiting to meet you! ##2252833##

Story
Zori as we affectionately call her is a precious, shy Yorkie female who was surrendered to our rescue by a commercial breeder when they retired her from their breeding program Current weight 3.8kg /8lbs, Zori is a wee girl who is still learning that humans can be kind and safe and provide TLC and patience, after her previous life was certainly not kind to her. Zori is still cautiously exploring her world and slowing blossoming to learn to trust people and be more brave in new environments. MANDATORY for her new forever home *Fully fenced yard/full supervision in person during outside time. Zori is too timid to walk on leash yet and needs to build her confidence before she is ready for leashed walks in her neighbourhood. She cannot be put out on a tie out nor live in a home with a dog door or unfenced pool. * Another suitable dog companion. Zori does best with another canine companion in her home to help with her confidence. She loves to snuggle with the other small dogs in her foster home. She has been around playful dogs and her zoomies and happy dances are starting to come out in her foster home, but she would not appreciate a dog who is in her face or pawing at her etc. * Zori requires a home without children due to her timid nature Zori has now been spayed, microchipped, had her bloodwork done, negative for heartworm and all tick diseases, and up to date on her vaccinations. Flea/tick prevention and fecal tested negative for parasites Zori is scheduled for her dental cleaning and removal of any decayed teeth on Dec 3rd and will then be ready to join her forever family after then. About Zori (from foster family) Good with dogs both in their home environment as well as meeting new dogs? We have 3 other small dogs of varying ages and a cat and she is very good with all of them. Her previous foster had larger dogs and she was also fine with them. She has no behavioural concerns at all with other dogs. How does your foster dog respond to meeting new people in their home environment and outside of the home? Zori is very timid but curious. She is interested in giving new people a sniff but needs some time to work up the courage. Good with cats? We have a cat and she shows no interest in him at all. Zori has no resource guarding tendencies whatsoever. Housetrained? No Crate trained? No Being in a crate was very stressful for Zori- she is not destructive so we leave her out with the other dogs when we need to leave them alone. Many dogs from previous breeding environments were kept in horrible tiny filthy cages so forcing crating is not something we do if they are safe to be left loose and enjoy their beds or couches Does your foster dog show signs of separation anxiety? No-fine to be left alone 3-4 hrs Please elaborate on your foster dog's leash skills. None as of yet, Zori is still slowly acclimating to her new life- we have not taken her on any walks yet until we build up her confidence How does your foster dog react when you touch the ears, tail, paws etc. Please elaborate. Zori is hesitant to be pet or handled but she does give little kisses to your hands when offered. She will not bite when being handled but does pull away out of fear. Zori is a very sweet and timid girl but every day she grows more and more comfortable. It is incredibly rewarding to see her come out of her shell. She loves meal time and will do happy little tippy taps as you bring her her bowl. She also gets zoomies in the evening and loves to play fetch with a sock. Things needing improvement specifics please We are still working on potty training- Zori does not let us know when she needs to go so we need to take her out at regular intervals to make sure she does her business outside. Zori needs to work on being handled- she prefers not to be picked up (but ironically wants to be on the couch with you- so she will run to her bed to let you pick her up from there) Zori has just mastered doing three stairs from the house to outside yard but overall is not confident on stairs which is fine since her tiny legs are very fragile as a Yorkie. Food amount/type: Zori eats 3 times a day, 2.5 oz of Bold by Nature balanced raw food (beef, pork, chicken, turkey-- she loves them all!) . Her tiny tummy does better with three smaller meals vs two larger. She is happy to do a little dance as you prepare her food and runs over to her spot to gobble it up! Potty habits: We take Zori out as soon as she finishes her breakfast and dinner, as soon as she wakes up in the morning and then every 3-4-ish hours throughout the day. She will not let you know when she needs to go-- if she gets up from a nap and starts to wander -- its time! Please describe current routines and preferences that will help the dog settle into their new home: Zori's safe spot is her bed. She loves to spend the day there while we work and sleeps all night in it, though recently she has discovered that snuggling in bed with her foster Dad and a foster dog is very nice! It will be important for her new family to understand that they have to take things at Zori's pace, and provide a positive environment for her to grow her confidence. Strengths/areas they have improved on: Zori is slowly coming out of her shell- she gains more confidence every day. Transportation-any motion sickness or anxiety in vehicles? None, travels well in her crate. Please describe the perfect adoptive home for your foster dog based on what you have experienced. Zori's ideal adoptive home will be quiet and calm. She needs someone who understands that she will need time to adjust and patience when it comes to training. She needs someone who is willing to go at her pace and give her the encouragement she needs to grow her confidence. Zori is 6yrs young and with a life expectancy of up to 16 yrs, she is not a suitable fit for older seniors/geriatric homes. Notes: * Mandatory registration with an approved trainer is a requirement for adoptive families. *Must be located within Ontario Canada *Inground/ground level Pools and deeper ponds must be separately fenced from yard Hobo Haven is located in St Jacobs Ontario. For approved families, we require in person meetings in St Jacobs ON Adoptions within Ontario only Please use this link to submit an application https://hobohavenrescue.ca/dog-adoption-application Adoption fee $800 + HST Adoption fees include spay/neuter, microchip, dental cleaning and extractions (her vet expenses will exceed $3000 that we've paid for) bloodwork, vaccinations, deworming, flea/tick/heartworm prevention, and all vet care, food and supplies during their time with us. We require all serious applicants to watched "Petfooled" which is a free documentary at this link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5XC1rUWWnxI , or on Amazon prime or also a variety of other free video sites. Our motto is "know better/do better" and we ask all adoptive families to be as committed to providing our dogs with quality nutrition as they are to providing love. This documentary is not advertising, purely just educational. An adoption application must be completed and approved, including vet references as well as a home visit (Zoom during COVID), prior to meeting available dogs. All dogs are placed in loving foster homes during their time with us, we do not have a shelter to visit. We do not allow applicants to visit until pre-approved for adoptions. I know I’m cute and a little Princess too. I certainly know how to walk through the door to come back in the house but I prefer you pick me up and carry me.  Yes, I can run up and down the stairs on my own, however, maybe sometimes I want you to carry me there too! Toys are interesting and I sure won’t turn down a snack or a nice bone to chew on.   And now, a few words from my foster mom: Tinkerbell was recently released from her duties as a breeding dog at the age of 6 yrs old. The whole world is new to her. Tink is curious and loves a good belly rub. She is also cautious. Quick motions and loud sudden noises startle her and she skittles right out of the room. This is one of the reasons that Tinkerbell is looking for a child free home. She is not yet used to a leash but enjoys running around a securely fenced yard or deck. Tink will need a similar size, age and stable companion dog in her home. Her furry friend will help her continue to develop trust in humans, set an example and live her best life. Questions?
