Story
Fifi came to us when her owner passed away.  She is quite overweight and is now on a responsible weight loss plan from our vet. A combo of lower calorie food and good exercise.   When Fifi first arrived at her foster home she was extremely anxious and spent most of her days hiding under the bed.  As the week went on, she would come out and look around and then go back under the bed.  She came out for meals but then retreated.  The second week she came out more and even lay by the foster mom while she watched some TV.  But if she became frightened or overwhelmed, she would head straight for the bedroom. She is doing much better now, week three. Fifi lives with a couple of other dogs and ignores them for the most part.  If they come near her treats or food dish she will show guarding behaviour and lunge and growl at them.  She could live with another dog, but needs to eat separately and if she has a treat, the other dogs will need to give her space She is not an overly demonstrative dog but does lay by the foster mom and enjoys being pet under the chin and behind her ears.  She does not seem comfortable getting cuddled or snuggled.  She follows the foster mom more now, and hides less.  If people come to visit she barks at them and as they walk into the living room she goes behind them and will sometimes nip at their pant legs.  The foster parents are working on counterconditioning that behaviour and making good strides Fifi housetrained, good when left alone and not a big barker.  She snores while sleeping and sleeps on a large donut bed. She is a lovely little dog, a bit quirky but once she trusts you she will follow and wag her tail for you.  She was good at the vet and did not show any signs of biting while being examined and not even when her anal glands had to be emptied She is approximately 5 years old and weighs 13 pounds which is overweight as noted.  No medical issues October 28, 2024, 10:48 am

Story
Stanley, a 7 year old, 15 lb. Yorkie, recently joined our rescue. He is a big handsome boy who has lived in a puppy mill all his life. When Stanley first arrived he would run away when approached. It took some work to gain his trust. He is a friendly boy and is good with other dogs. He is starting to enjoy the company of his foster parents and loves to cuddle on the couch. He also sleeps in bed with them. Stanley loves to run around in the backyard. He has not mastered the stairs yet. He is working on walking on a leash, but it’s still a work in progress.  He gets frightened when vehicles drive by or if there are loud noises. Stanley has a very good appetite and eats 2 meals a day. He is on kibble with canned food and add in a little chopped chicken and rice. Benny Bully are his favourite treats. Currently there are 2 small dogs in Stanley’s foster home. He will sometimes join in when the other dogs bark, but for the most part is very quiet. He has not been destructive when left alone. Stanley is not housebroken yet - another work in progress (common to the mill dogs we take in). We try to get him outside every couple of hours to do his business. He will need some assistance with that. He is a little frightened driving in the car, but can travel seat belted in a dog bed. A quiet environment and a house with a yard would be beneficial for Stanley. And it would be nice if someone was home more often than not... perhaps someone who works from home or who is retired. He is making great progress and with a little time and patience he will be a lovely companion.  He's a sweet boy who has been through the mill, literally!  But brighter days are ahead for this deserving chap.     October 28, 2024, 10:48 am
