Story
7-year-old Male Yorkshire Terrier | 5 lbs Scooter is a tiny 5-pound, 7-year-old Yorkie with a gentle heart and a quiet soul. He is a former breeder dog, so he can be very shy at first. When meeting new people, Scooter may slowly back away until he feels safe. With patience and kindness, he quickly learns he can trust you—and once he does, he becomes a sweet little snuggle buddy. He does fit nicely in a satchel or carrying bag. Scooter is an exceptionally quiet dog. In fact, I’ve only heard him bark once since he’s been in my care. He loves to sit beside his person or curl up on a warm lap and simply enjoy being close. He does need to be watched as he has started lap guarding with the other dogs. When not protecting moms lap, he is great with other dogs and came in with Gertrude as a breeding pair. 🩺 Medical & Special Care Scooter has an eye condition with limited vision. Because of this, he currently requires two different eye drops twice daily. He handles his care well and is otherwise doing fine. He will have a recheck on Friday 1/30 to see if the eye drops help or if they are needed in the future. He gets around fine. Due to cold weather, Scooter currently refuses to go outside, so he wears a belly band and is not fully potty trained. If taken outside, he would need a secure fenced yard. A patient home that understands his background and is willing to continue working with very shy dogs will help him thrive. Fast movements are scary for breeder release dogs. 💙 Ideal Home Scooter would do best in a quiet, loving home with:    •   Patience and gentle handling    •   Another small dog companion    •   A calm environment, no kids.    •   Someone who enjoys a cuddly lap dog Once Scooter knows you’re safe, he will reward you with trust, affection, and the sweetest companionship. Apply to adopt at www.campcompanion.org Adoption fee is $350 plus tax.

Story
Gertrude is a sweet but shy 7.5-lb Yorkie who has been released from a breeding situation and is now ready to experience the love she’s always deserved. Though timid at first, Gertrude blossoms once she feels safe. When trust is earned, she becomes a devoted snuggle buddy who enjoys sharing cuddles and companionship. She gets along well with other dogs and cats and is adorably curious—always wanting to know what’s going on around her. Gertrude is making progress with potty training but will need continued consistency to master it. She is working on learning to walk on a leash, though she will need a patient adopter willing to continue helping her build confidence. A securely fenced yard is required, as she is a flight risk and may try to dart out an open door. Careful door management will be important to keep this little girl safe. She would do best with another dog and shares cuddles easily. Scared dogs like little Gertrude do better in adult only homes or with homes with older kids who will understand when the dog feels nervous and might need space. Fast movements are very scary for these breeder release dogs who have lived their life unsocialized. Gerty is a truly special pup just waiting for the right lap to fill! If you’re willing to be patient with her, she will reward you with so much love! Gertrude is having her teeth cleaned on Tuesday Feb. 3 and can be adopted that next weekend.   Name: Niko Age: 9 years Gender: male Breed: Yorkie Weight: 11 lbs Dog friendly: yes- calm respectful dogs, please Cat friendly: testing available upon request Child friendly: yes, older  school aged gentle children please House trained: yes Crate trained: yes Energy level: low Temperament: sweet, snuggly, docile, easygoing, loyal Adoption Fee: $375+tax To adopt, go to:   www.mendingspirits.org/apply-to-adopt.html Some hearts learn to love quietly first. Nico’s learned to love with everything he has.  Rescued from a hoarding situation with 18 other Chihuahuas, Nico came from a world where space was crowded, attention was scarce, and safety wasn’t guaranteed. And yet—despite all of that—this little one-eyed gentleman chose love. He chose people. He chose closeness. Nico is a true cuddle bug in every sense of the word. If he had his way, he’d spend the entire day curled up on the bed beside you, tucked into blankets and pillows, soaking in the comfort he waited so long to have. He follows his people everywhere, always wanting to be close, always making sure you’re nearby. Treats are one of his love languages (especially a whipped cream pup cup), and car rides feel like tiny adventures he’s always happy to join. Toys are fun for Nico, but he likes to take his time. New environments can feel big, so he may need a little patience before his playful side fully comes out—but when it does, it’s worth the wait. Nico enjoys the company of other dogs, especially when introductions happen slowly and thoughtfully. When it comes to his favorite humans, though, he prefers to keep them all to himself. People are his safe place, and he has so much love to give once he knows you’re his. He loves food but eats in small portions, and he’s still learning boundaries and manners—making wonderful progress every day. He’s working on his leash skills and is quickly learning how to tell his fosters when it’s time to go outside. Nico is house trained, crate trained, and generally very quiet, though being with his people is always his favorite option. This little one-eyed man has a way of stealing hearts without even trying. He’s gentle, affectionate, and always ready for the next cozy adventure—whether that’s a car ride, a short walk, or simply a quiet afternoon at home. Nico would do best in a calm, loving home with older, gentle children or a senior or retired household where he can soak up all the companionship he’s been missing. After everything he’s been through, what he wants most is simple: a soft place to land, steady routines, and someone to love him as much as he loves them. And trust us—loving Nico is the easiest thing in the world. January 29, 2026, 9:58 pm
