Please read the pet description IN IT'S ENTIRETY before applying.  Thank you for your cooperation. You Tube video link:  https://youtu.be/iN6sVjX51nQ   FOR ADOPTION!   Note:  Only those with a responsible dog ownership history and excellent vet reference need apply. (For more pics, visit nr2r.petfinder.com or www.RoadtoRescueLA.org)   INSTRUCTIONS TO APPLY: PLEASE read profile thoroughly BEFORE applying: DOG APPLICATION LINK:    http://www.roadtorescuela.org/dog-application Gibbler (male) Intake date:   8/3/2024 Yorkie Approx 12 years young 4.10 pounds Adoption fee:  $125, which includes vetting, microchip Good with other dogs:  yes Cats:  unknown – we do not have cats to be able to test Vetting and other:  altered (spayed/neutered), dental performed (15 teeth extracted – sutures in top of mouth that will dissolve – only about 6 teeth left bottom jaw), rear dangling dew claws removed, up-to-date on age-appropriate vaccinations, heartworm negative, fecal negative, on monthly flea/tick and heartworm prevention, professional groom, microchipped Health issues:  Gibbler had a horrible infection in his mouth due to rotting teeth – as a result he had a lot of drainage from his sinuses – we recommend keeping the debris away from his eyes (scroll down to see a link to his intake picture – it was horrible);  it’s important that his remaining teeth be examined once a year by your vet to make sure this doesn’t happen again.  Poor guy – the pain he must have been in.  He does not care for someone going near his mouth so we found that cleaning his eyes works well if you are holding him as opposed to him standing on a counter.  We use a warm wash cloth and rub gently over his closed eyes and around the eyes.  Slowly.   Temperament:  Due to the pain from his mouth, he doesn’t really like to have his face messed with.  Our groomer was able to clean him up despite him turning into a shark.  Otherwise, he's calm and quiet. Energy level:  low Groom needs:  medium-high;  he has a wiry coat -  from his intake picture:  https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=894041856101293&set=a.756771159828364  you will see that the hair around his face grows likely longer than the rest of his body so that will need to be maintained. Biography:  Gibbler came in with Dan Dan via a rescue friend.  We were told that the wife died and the husband told the other rescue that if they didn't take all the dogs, he was going to shoot them.  The rescue reached out to us to see if we could take Dan Dan and Gibbler.  Gibbler’s face was overgrown with debris from drainage from his sinuses due to rotted teeth and infection in his mouth.  Here is a link to his intake picture:  https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=894041856101293&set=a.756771159828364    He’s going to need a patient adopter.  He panics if someone tries to get close to his face and will react, growling and trying to bite.  We’ve worked with him to clean the drainage from his eyes by using a warm wash cloth and holding him while we clean.  When someone is not trying to “mess with his face” he is calm and quiet.  It’s just going to take time for him to understand that his mouth doesn’t hurt anymore because all of his dental issues have been addressed.  It’s so sad that he’s likely lived like this for years.  Gibbler does great in a kennel, sleeps most of the time and just needs a soft place to land to show him that humans want to help him, not hurt him.   If you think you are that person, we welcome your application.   **IMPORTANT NOTES** *We do adopt out of state provided the adopter is willing and able to travel to us once approved.  We do not ship or transport our animals and there is no exception to this rule.   *Most of our adoptable dogs are small, and they are never to be left outside alone, ever!  We only rehome our dogs to adopters that plan to have them as inside dogs and part of the family!   We do allow adopters with doggie doors, provided there is SECURE fencing.  There is no exception to this rule!   *PREDATORS:    IF THIS DOG IS UNDER 10 POUNDS, the dog is to be monitored and protected when outside at all times!  PREDATOR-THREAT IS A REAL DANGER!  For example, a hawk tried to pick up a Chihuahua owned by a friend visiting Ninna’s house… RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE VISITOR.  Thankfully the visitor was watching the dog and the hawk was wrestled off of the Chihuahua but it did require an ER visit and she is was very lucky to survive.   TAKE IT SERIOUSLY!     *NO SMALL CHILDREN!!  As with almost all the dogs at NR2R, young children or a very active household is not recommended.   Many of our dogs come to us BECAUSE of small children, thus we do not rehome our dogs to homes with babies or young children.  KEEP THIS IN MIND IF YOU HAVE VISITING GRANDCHILDREN AS WELL!  Even if the children are older, it would depend on the child AND the parent or parents.    *HOUSETRAINING:  We do NOT guarantee that any of our adoptable dogs are housetrained.   While most should be easily trained, keep in mind that they live in a rescue where they have access to the outdoors all day and are inside at night.  Even if they were surrendered to us as housetrained, it doesn’t mean they will automatically be housetrained in your home.  Housetraining them should be easy in the right home with time, patience, and consistency.    *KENNELING:  We always recommend kenneling when you cannot supervise your dog.  This helps with housetraining and any destructive tendencies until you get to know your knew addition.   *We do not guarantee the age, health or temperament of any of the dogs we rehome.  Many of the dogs we take in come from animal control and rarely do we have histories and even when we do, many times the histories are inaccurate.   *Only adopters with a responsible dog ownership history and excellent vet reference need apply.   If you bring this pet into your heart and home, you will receive in return many years of love, companionship, and loyalty.  That’s our guarantee.   Other notes:  This pet is available for adoption through Ninna’s Road to Rescue, Benton, La.  We are 501c3 non-profit organization.  Our mission is to rescue primarily small-breed dogs and to re-home them into RESPONSIBLE and CARING forever homes.    DOG APPLICATION LINK:   http://www.roadtorescuela.org/dog-application Time may be of the essence if you are looking to adopt a specific animal.  We do not reserve animals, unless and until we have approved your application, provided the animal is still available at the time we receive your application.  The first APPROVED application we receive will be considered.  We are NOT a first come, first serve rescue!! We adopt our rescues out to the RIGHT home, not just A home. Only responsible pet owners need apply. Applying to adopt does NOT commit you to the adoption NOR does it guarantee the adoption. CONTACT:  Our adoptable pets are updated regularly, but if you want to check the availability of a pet... OR still have questions AFTER reading this profile, message us via our Facebook page.   Please indicate the name when communicating with us. www.RoadtoRescueLA.org   “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.”  ~ Gandhi Be responsible ~  Always spay/neuter, keep your dogs on heartworm prevention, vaccinate against disease... and if you bring a pet into your life, commit to that pet for life.  Blessings. Temperament:  shy, submissive, sweet – great lap dog! Energy level:  low Groom needs:  medium-high;  his coat may need a pro-groom from time-to-time.  He does need brushing to keep his coat from tangling. Biography:   Bunker is an owner-surrender due to not having the time for him.   His owner had him since he was a puppy and this is what we were told about him:  At night, he’d sleep on the couch, he travels well but doesn’t know anything about a leash (and we discovered that is the case); he does ok during bad weather and fireworks and he is not destructive (but keep in mind, he is a puppy so should be supervised).  We’ve discovered he does fine in a kennel if needed and that he loves a lap.  Ideally, he’s looking for a home that has someone with a soft lap where he and his human can live happily ever after.    **WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW** *We do adopt out of state provided the adopter is willing and able to travel to us once approved. Please read the pet description IN IT'S ENTIRETY before applying.  Thank you for your cooperation. STRAY NEW INTAKE NOT YET TAKING APPLICATIONS – NOT YET AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION NEW INTAKE 10/28/2024:  Bitsey - female - approx 2 years old - 7.2 pounds - Yorkie/Chihuahua mix Reason for intake:  Bitsey showed up at someone's house on Crouch Dam Road in Mooringsport around Oct. 22, 2024.  The finder posted her on social media and we were tagged.  We reached out but didn't hear back.   The finder contacted us yesterday saying no one came forward and could we take her and here she is.  We notified Caddo Parish Animal Services and she is or will be posted on their lost/found site.  If no one comes forward by the week of Nov 4, 2024, we will send her for vetting.   You must show proof this is your dog via pictures... vet records, etc. We don't go off of "see if the dog will answer to xxxx". We don't go off of someone just saying the dog is their dog. You must have PROOF! We do NOT take applications for dogs UNTIL they are posted for adoption provided no owner comes forward during stray.  Early applications BEFORE the dog is posted for adoption will not be processed.  Thank you for your patience and understanding.   “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.”  ~ Gandhi Be responsible ~  Always spay/neuter, keep your dogs on heartworm prevention, vaccinate against disease... and if you bring a pet into your life, commit to that pet for life.  Blessings. Story
Please read the pet description IN IT'S ENTIRETY before applying.  Thank you for your cooperation. NOT YET TAKING APPLICATIONS – NOT YET AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION NEW INTAKE 10/29/2024:  Scruffy Man - male - age TBD - weight TBD - Yorkie Reason for intake:  Scruffy Man came in with Kammi.  We were contacted by the sister-in-law of the owner.  The owner's house caught on fire... in August.  Scruffy Man and Kammi were rushed to the vet for oxygen therapy.  They were there for two weeks.  The owner went to stay with his brother and his wife.   The dogs joined after two weeks at the vet.  Sometime thereafter, sadly the owner passed away as he had been very sick.  His dogs were housed with the brother for a while but with four big dogs of their own, just could not keep them.  They were staying in a travel trailer on the property.  Anyway, we agreed to take them in.  They are currently at our vet and we will have more information soon.  Sad story but we are thankful we were able to help. WE ARE NOT TAKING APPLICATIONS:  Many dogs, particularly breeder, hoarder or senior dogs, can have multiple medical issues that need addressed.  Additionally, sometimes we take in young puppies requiring multiple vaccinations and/or quarantining.   In this particular case, we are not yet taking applications either due to age or possible illness or some other reason.  We will post when s(he) is ready for adoption.  In the interest of fairness, EARLY application submissions will NOT be considered.  Please note…  we cannot respond to messages/emails, etc., on dogs that are NOT yet available for adoption.  Please wait until the dog is available for adoption.  We will post him or her on Facebook in our Adoptable Dog Album pinned to the top of our page which you can follow at this link:  https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.416768288349589&type=3 OR you can keep checking our website at www.roadtorescuela.org.  We appreciate your cooperation and understanding. Blessings.
