Story
** If you are interested in adopting Gibby, please fill out our adoption application at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/ ** Gibby is an adorable Yorkie / Chihuahua mix. He is 3 years old and 11 lbs of cute, scruffiness. Gibby found himself in an overcrowded, scary, high-kill shelter in Houston, and Farfel's was reached out to to help this sweet guy. He arrived to our rescue in September of 2024 and was adopted. However, Gibby's family adopted a baby recently (we were not made aware of this plan when they adopted Gibby from us) and now Gibby is being returned because he does not do well with younger kids. However Gibby's foster home before he was adopted had teenage kids (12, 14, and 17) and he did great with them! From Gibby's foster: * * * * "Gibby is super sweet and well behaved. He is good with our pre-teens and teens and other dog, and sleeps all night and stays in his crate whenever we have to go out very well. Gibby is the sweetest little cuddle monster. He loves snuggles on the couch or in bed, but can also sleep in his crate all night if you prefer. He is one of the most affectionate dogs we've ever been around. He does most of his potty breaks outside. He loves walks and is very food motivated, which makes it very easy to do training with him. He loves treats and playing games (enrichment activities are his favorite, especially hunting for his food). He is great with our dogs and met my sisters dog and was friendly! He just doesn't do great meeting new dogs while he is out on a leash. He has been great with my dogs and dogs we have had visit the home though. He doesn't like to share his food or treats, so we do feed him separate. He has been very close to my braver cat who was laying still on the floor and he just looked at her. I think he probably would chase if she had run, but I was impressed that he didn't bark or charge her! He is food motivated. He's an adorable, friendly, cuddly, silly little dog!" * * * * Sweet Gibby recently had surgery to remove a trichobezoar—a large hairball that formed in his stomach from excessive licking. To prevent this from happening again, his fosters have been using a Shed Defender, which is a lightweight, breathable onesie that keeps him from licking / ingesting hair. He’ll benefit from wearing this regularly, especially when unattended, and his adopter will receive one to take home with him. We suspect his licking may have been triggered by anxiety after his previous family had a baby, so we’re hopeful that in a stable, loving home, the self-licking will subside. With a little management and a lot of love, Gibby will thrive! We would love to see Gibby in a home with an individual, family (older kids are preferred so there's no tail-pulling or awkward handling) or active retirees who have the time and love for a very loyal and sweet dog. We'd hate to see him left alone all day while his family works full-time outside of the home, as he is much too social for that type of arrangement. We'd like to place Gibby in a home where he'll get consistent stimulation, exercise and love. A (virtual or in-person) positive reinforcement group training class promotes great behavior, bonding and confidence for a young guy whose self-esteem will fly high while he masters his skills. Training is so important in the future behaviors of every dog. It's for this reason that we're unwilling to adopt to a family that doesn't make this loving choice. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of both in-person and virtual positive reinforcement / force- free trainers in your area. Gibby has been fully vetted, and he is in great health, up to date on his shots, and neutered. Farfel's Rescue is a fully foster based rescue, and offers a one week trial with every adoption. We feel that this is much more beneficial to not only the dog, but the adopter too. We believe that only getting 20-30 minutes with a dog before deciding on a lifetime commitment is not a fair amount of time to the adopter, or the dog. Therefore we give adopters one week with the dog to assure it is the right fit, and offer a full refund of their adoption fee should it not workout within the week trial. Farfel's Rescue has been doing adoptions this way since 2005 and is thrilled to adopt out ~400 dogs each year. If you are interested in adopting from us, please be sure to fill out our adoption application at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/ . **PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting from us, please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Adoption site applications such as Petfinder and Adoptapet don't provide enough information and therefore aren't useful. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog. We're sorry, but in many cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.

Little Luke is a super sweet boy, who loves nothing more than to play and be with you! He is a bit shy at first but is full of cuddles and love once he gets to know you!!! He does great with other dogs in her foster home, is non reactive around cats, and is doing great with crate training. Since he is just a youngster still, he will need a family with lots of patience and willingness to work with puppy training to help him become the best canine citizen he can be!

Who doesn't love a guy with long hair? That's me! I am small, handsome, and I mean what is better than that! House trained, dog friendly, and man do I love people. I need a home that understands I am a Yorkie poodle mix who needs regular grooming. A home that is ready to treat me with kindness and allow me to shower them with love. Is that you? ##2303935##

Story
From foster: Meet Dori (or Baba, as we call her)! When she first arrived with us, she looked like a little sheep—lots of fluffy hair but bald legs. It's been a beautiful journey with her these past few months.  Baba is an absolute love bug who adapts to anything. She quickly bonded with our other dogs, who adored her from day one. While she does have some ongoing medical needs that were initially unknown, we’ve been working closely with the rescue's partner vet, and she’s doing wonderfully now.  Baba thrives in our lively, chaotic home with her foster siblings. They love to play, chase squirrels by the fence, and just hang out together. Recently, Baba showed us she loves playing fetch, and she’s got her favorite stuffed animal that we call her "baby." She’s got her own spot to eat and knows it’s hers. Sometimes, she sleeps with us in bed, but most nights, she prefers her quiet spots—by the nightstand near Dad, in the closet, or just somewhere calm but close to us. Baba is playful and loves to instigate games—though we're not sure if she even knew what playtime was before, she now loves it! She has been with us a while, mostly because of the time it took to address her medical needs, but it hasn’t been an issue for us at all. With medication, she’s a part of our routine, and her health doesn’t disrupt our life. While she still occasionally has coughing episodes (usually triggered by cold weather), it’s manageable and doesn’t get in the way of her happiness.  Baba is the sweetest girl—she asks to go outside to potty, is not a barker, and sleeps peacefully wherever she chooses. She’s had very few accidents in the house and is truly a joy to be around. Baba would be the perfect companion in a quieter home where she can enjoy relaxed walks and cuddle time. She’s adaptable, sweet, and would love to settle into a home where her medical needs are understood and cared for. She’s ready to be a loyal, loving “pocket” pup, and we’re sure she’ll bring a lot of joy to her forever family. She deserves a special place to call home. Dori was rescued from a crowded shelter in New Mexico. She had an eye removal at some point prior to going to the shelter. She has been diagnosed with a mid grade heart murmur. Meet and greets are by appointment only.  An approved application is required to schedule a meeting. Check out our events page for upcoming open adoption events! We have no additional back story or update for this dog at this time.  When we do, it will be updated here.  This is all the information we have currently. Approved Applicants may make the adoption fee payment by clicking donate above.  Partial adoption fees will not hold a dog. Dogs adopted with our rescue come with FREE training from #GoodPup to help you build strong bonds from the start! If upon meeting the dog of your choosing at your scheduled pickup time you find that you aren't a good match, your deposit will be fully refunded. Adoption fees include vaccines up until time of adoption, microchip, spay/neuter and 1st 30 days of free Pet insurance.  We are not affiliated with Pet First pet insurance. (you have to sign up for the insurance or it will not go into effect).  Adoption fees help cover the medical care of the animals while he or she waits for a new home, as well as food and transportation costs. These fees help to provide care for the other animals in the shelter or rescue group who may have medical bills that are much higher than any possible adoption fee. The money also acts as a donation to help support the organization as a whole, allowing the group to continue its efforts to rescue and rehome pets. The dogs in our care are fostered in Colorado, Texas, and New Mexico.  While all dogs are picked up during our scheduled times, sometimes transport dates change due to unforeseen circumstances.   More questions?  Read our FAQs here: https://4p4l.org/faqs/  Breed labels are a "best guess" by a shelter veterinarian and cannot be guaranteed.  A new study has concluded that (in layman's terms), breed assumption is NOT indicative of behavior in mixed breed dogs.  Therefore, if a dog looks presumably to be a German Shepherd breed, one cannot assume the dog will have a high prey drive.  From the study: "Although many physical traits were associated with breeds, behavior was much more variable among individual dogs. In general, physical trait heritability was a greater predictor of breed but was not necessarily a predictor of breed ancestry in mutts. Among behavioral traits, biddability—how well dogs respond to human direction—was the most heritable by breed but varied significantly among individual dogs. Thus, dog breed is generally a poor predictor of individual behavior and should not be used to inform decisions relating to selection of a pet dog" - https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.abk0639 ##2209361##
