Learn more, see our list of dogs needing foster, and apply, https://www.citydogsrescuedc.org/foster-a-city-dog.html City Dogs & City Kitties Rescue is a foster-based rescue in Washington, DC. We do not have a shelter. CDCK has a thorough adoption process to find the best possible fit for each of our dogs and cats (we do not operate under a first-come, first-served model). Upon accepting a new cat or dog into the organization, we provide a basic vet visit that includes necessary vaccinations, disease screenings, deworming, microchips, and spay/neuter for dogs six months and older. We do not provide a comprehensive medical exam before adoption. As a result, sickness, injury, and disability may exist unbeknownst to CDCK. City Dogs & City Kitties Rescue is not responsible for payment of any vet care, including known and unknown medical conditions once a cat or dog is adopted from us. Dog specific: Rabies, DHPP, Lepto and Bordetella vaccines. They are tested for HW, Lyme, Ehrlichia, Anaplasmosis. Most cats and dogs will have a house-training accident in the initial days in their new home and we cannot guarantee any pet is housebroken or crate trained.

Story
https://foha.org/pet/marypoppins2024/ Hi there, I’m Mary Poppins! At just under a year old, I know I may catch your eye with my youthful charm and adorable face, but let me tell you a little more about myself. I’m a sweet, shy girl who’s still figuring out that the world isn’t so scary. Right now, everything feels a bit overwhelming, and I’ll need a family who understands that building trust with me will take time, patience, and lots of love. While I’m still getting used to this new environment at FOHA, I’ve discovered one thing that helps me feel more like a carefree pup—being around other dogs! Watching them play and interact gives me a little extra confidence, so I might do best in a home with a calm, friendly dog who can show me the ropes. I haven’t fully let my playful side shine just yet, but I’m starting to learn that tasty treats like cheese and hot dogs are pretty great. What I really need, though, is a family who’s willing to go slow with me, meet me a few times to let me get comfortable, and give me the time I need to blossom. If you’re patient, kind, and ready to help me learn that people can be my friends, I just might be the perfect pup for you. I’m still new here, and I have so much to learn, but with the right home, I know I’ll find my confidence and grow into the wonderful companion I’m meant to be. Could you be the one to help me write my next chapter? Let’s take it one step at a time—together.

These pups are in Washington, District of Columbia too!

Story
We are so excited be able to help this 6 month old, precious Cairn Terrier mix boy named Skeet. He is a lover of sitting in your lap and helping you watch whatever show or football game you want.  He is just waiting to be someone’s little buddy. Skeet is a delightful and small12 pound pup who will stay small and under 20 pounds as an adult. He truly enjoys laying in your lap watching TV and just being loved. When it comes to doggy toys,  and carefully picks them out when he's ready to play. Skeet is very smart  and he does well with all doggy toys, other dogs, cats, and will be your little shadow.  He and his sister Pixie were owned by a family that didntbfeed them well.  They ran loose when grom housecto house trying to find food.  The house had no fencedvyard and they wete on a busy highway.  Their momma was run.over whrn they were barely 3 weeks old. They too were in danger of the same fate.  The foster mom and dad love both Skeet and his sister and were surprised at their wonderful house manners.  Skeet fits right in with the other dogs, two cats and found the dog toy box immediately.  They are ready to be adopted now!  All vetting done and they are healthy. If you were interested in skeet, please email Critter. Cavalry Rescue at Ccrnewengland@gmail.com  PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comDecember 28, 2024, 10:15 pm

Story
Please contact Diane Pedulla (dianep@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.small sweetie ready to play! SAM NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!! Come meet Sam and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (12/8) from 12-3 pm at the PetSmart in Rockville, MD (5154 Nicholson Ln, Kensington, MD 20895)!   Name:  Sam      Best Guess for Breed: Jack Russell terrier and chihuahua mix   Best Guess for Age:   2 years as of April 2024       SEX: Male   Approximate Weight:  23 lbs   Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen him with cats but he can be tested. Sam cannot go to a home with kids under age 15.   Currently Living at:  DC area foster   Check out this video of Sam: https://youtube.com/shorts/N-9ZEnGu1XM?si=Vof5zYEnwQRfa8Iq   Special adoption considerations: Sam is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs.  All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care.  After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months. We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left!   Sam needs to go to a home with a resident dog to help him gain more confidence. he cannot go to a home with kids under age 15. Sam is nervous around men and tries to resource guard the things he values. We would be happy to discuss this more in depth with any applicant.   Sam is Looking For:   His forever home! This cutie, through no fault of his own, landed in the shelter. He's looking forward to his new chapter, eagerly awaiting all the sniffy walks he will get with his new humans, romps in the park, and all the adventures they can dream up. He's out of the puppy yips and as a wise, experienced dog, knows what's most important in life: Being safe and loved and under his own roof, and that's right at the top of his wish list. Right now, he's shy and unsure in new environments, so he needs extra patient and loving adopters who will help him become more confident in new places, and a welcoming resident dog who will show him how to dog! In exchange, he offers all the adoring gazes and happy tail wags he's stockpiling at the shelter and loyal companionship for all his days. What do you say? Can you see Sam trotting by your side? What My Foster Says About Me: Sam is adjusting very well and becoming more confident every day. He is still shy when outside and will stay close on walks while he frequently looks at you. He understands going to the bathroom outside but has his favorite places to go - #1 is the dog park!   Inside he is more bouncy and playful. He does have a rougher play style but hasn’t been destructive with anything. He gets along well with the resident dog and they play a lot. I would describe his energy level as medium+. He gets nervous when he sees big dogs and wants to observe them before greeting.   He is learning house manners, basic commands, and takes gentle corrections well. He does very well in the crate and will settle when asked. He loves giving and receiving affection and has the potential to be a snuggler given time and patience so he can fully relax in his environment.   Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:    The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog   Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. Story
Please contact Mamie Hall (mamie.hall@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.sweet shy mama seeking love and safety! FAITH NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!    Name:  Faith         Best Guess for Breed:  Jack Russell terrier and Chihuahua mix Best Guess for Age: 3 years as of November 2024        SEX:  Female   Approximate Weight:  18 lbs   Gets Along With:   Faith does well with other dogs and needs to go to a home with a welcoming resident dog. We haven't seen her with cats but she can be tested if you have them.  We would be cautious placing Faith in a home with children under 12 years old because young kids can often scare shy dogs with their level of energy or noise.  Children would need to be supervised closely to not leave doors open and should never walk the dog without an adult holding the leash.  We would be happy to discuss this more in depth with any applicant.   Currently Living at:  DC area foster home.   Special adoption considerations:   Because Faith is shy, she needs to go to a home with a confident, welcoming resident dog.    Faith is Looking For:   Her forever home! This sweet mama and her older pups Mac and Tina arrived in the shelter through no fault of their own. Faith wants nothing more than to walk through the world with all the confidence of a well-loved dog. Right now, though, she's confused and scared, and doesn't have enough experience in new settings. She's looking for extra loving and patient adopters who will show her the world at her pace and a welcoming resident dog who will show her how to dog.    Faith is a young girl and has so much to see and do. She's got so many adoring gazes and little tail wags, so much loyalty and love in her for her new humans.  What do you say? Does she get to see the world with you? Do you get all the love she has to offer? What My Foster Says About Me:   We adore Faith!! She's shy but just the sweetest girl.  I can tell she is a cuddle bug and wants to be near her humans. She wants to be by your side and has done great just laying around during the day, sleeping in a dog bed or in her crate. She's a slow walker because her little legs probably make it hard to move quickly, but overall, she's an easy walker since she doesn't pull. She sleeps well in her crate so far!  Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:      The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter.
