Story
Our Moose Man! This sweet and sensitive guy is in search of the perfect home where he can thrive. He prefers to be the sole dog in the household and can be protective of his loved ones. For this reason, he would do best with older children. Moose is both house trained and crate trained, making him an excellent indoor companion. He craves human company and would flourish with an owner who is frequently present. A true hound, he adores walks, relishing every opportunity to sniff around. While he enjoys a good vocal session, he is well-behaved on leash. Affectionate and playful, Moose is quick to reciprocate love. He communicates his needs effectively and is a joy to be around. He has a knack for learning commands, already mastering sit, down, and shake. Treats and affection motivate him to continue learning, and he's currently progressing well with leash training. Moose is up-to-date on vaccinations, neutered, and microchipped, ready to find his forever home. If you have room in your heart and home for a smart and loving companion, consider meeting Moose today! Please submit an online application to begin the process.

Story
Every now and then I see a hound in need that just breaks my heart. Wrecks me to pieces. And that is exactly what happened when I saw Beaver. You see, Beaver was taken in as a stray at a shelter in South Carolina. He was SO scared that he would barely walk. Beaver was most likely purchased or bred to be a hunting dog, but when he didn't make the cut he was discarded like trash. And dumped hunting dogs end up in kill shelters, and many don't make it out alive. When an East Coast rescue reached out to us about Beaver, he had one day left before it was his turn on the euthaniasia list. We had to act fast if we were going to save his life. And that is precisely what we did. With their help, we were able to pull Beaver from the shelter, and put him into boarding until we could work out transport logistics. Beaver spent the last 25 days in boarding, which is not cheap, and we are paying a $600 transport fee to get him here, but I am happy to say that he is currently on his way to Tulsa and will be arriving around 8am tomorrow morning. We are looking forward to getting him here and being able to work with him on his fear and help him gain the confidence he needs to be a great pet! He tested perfectly with other dogs, and has already made a little bit of progress on his fear. Beaver is scheduled to be neutered on Wednesday, then he needs a foster home to go to! We provide all of his supplies and vet care, you pay nothing! All you have to do is open your home and your heart to this sweet boy, and help show him that this is the beginning of the rest of his life! If you can help, even temporarily, please reach out!

Story
This is Jake. He is a fantastic dog who is loved by everyone he meets! He is friendly and loving and very happy to have been rescued from an outdoor pen where he spent 4 years of his life. Jake has swiftly become a favorite among everyone he encounters. Despite his challenging history, he is as sweet as can be. He is incredibly affectionate and adores any kind of attention. Jake delights in the outdoors, relishing in rolling around in the grass and basking in the sun. With a personality that's larger than life, we are confident his forever home is waiting out there! He appears to get along well with other dogs, but gets too excited about cats. This animal has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. Now, he is prepared for his forever home! Jake has always been a great dog, but he also has his nuances, as with any pet. My ONLY reasons for reaching back to Helpless Hounds is that I currently cannot care for Jake the way he deserves. He loves his walks around the neighborhood and while he can pull a bit, he quickly understands to slow the pace on command. While he generally isn't around a lot of people, he is kind to all and loves his pets. He is best meeting new people outdoors but has never been violent towards new people, it just takes him a minute to get all the smells. Speaking of smells, he has been known to get a few kitchen scraps, though knew not to get too close. His beg was a patient sit or lay on the boundary. We only had one close call with a hot pan and he never really went in the kitchen again (it's small). In my experience, he has done fine with other animals, but that experience is limited. , and he was leashed for the most part Jake is a curious dog, and I think would do great on a nature walk type scenario. He enjoys the small dog park nearby and has been issue free there. In my opinion, Jake would be best suited for a retired family who still enjoy their walks and maybe a few grandkids to play fetch with their in the yard. May need multiple tennis balls.

Story
Deirdre is a puppy that was born on January 24th, 2024. We pulled her extremely pregnant mama Maureen out of a rural shelter in the dead of winter so she wouldn't have to give birth on a cold concrete floor. Maureen had 9 adorable healthy puppies, and we themed them "The Irish Litter". She is currently in a foster home with kids and one other dog. She's extremely smart, sweet, and playful.
