Story
Hi there! I’m Anny the precious little breeder release mini Schnauzer retired momma. So many things have changed since I was rescued from the awful and traumatic breeding life last fall. First and foremost, I am learning what it means to be a safe and adored family member - a life that I never dreamed was even possible. Next, I’m learning that not all humans are awful. I still don't like being picked up / it still scares me a lot. I now take treats from my foster mom and dad and quite like them. I'm very cautious, and it takes me a long time to warm up, but I do eventually, after a lot of time.  Loud noises still terrify me, so I am not a good fit for a home with small children or a lot of disorganized chaos. I am still very much in training on accepting a leash and walking, but I have come a long, long way, and actually quite like walking with my foster sister. In fact, I'm the greatest doggie sibling that ever was because I'm independent, playful, silly, sweet, and love every doggie I've met as long as they’re close in size to me. I am often found hanging out in my foster sister and brother’s bed or kennel, sometimes even with them still in there, too. I love to chew my bully sticks, greenies, and no hide chews. I also love to play with my toys. There are some special needs that I must have in my next loving home - 1. Another confident doggie sibling. I don't like being alone, and I need to follow a good fur leader. 2. A secure fenced yard is a must. I need to be kept safe at all costs because I am still in doggie training, and I don't like being leashed, and it takes me a good long while to trust that process. Until I do, I am a flight risk. 3. A really patient and caring dog mom or dad. I have been through a lot of unfair and icky experiences in my short life. I am not immediately cuddly, and I need a safe and cozy space of my own. I do like sleeping in the bed with my foster mom, dad, and siblings. The end of their bed is one of my most favorite places, along with my place in front of the fireplace and my fuzzy rug, bed, and crate. 4. Lots of training. Guess what? I'm a purebred terrier girl. That means I’m stubborn and have a big mind of my own. Training to listen, walk, sit, focus, and come to my human is an absolute necessity. If you're willing to accept me for my tiny quirks, let me tell you what / you will just love me. I'm such a sweet girl. I'm just a little mischievous clown. I have the most fantastic terrier head tilt! If you’re familiar with Mini Schnauzers, I am 1000% one with all the traits and personality.   Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, dental, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee:  $550.00    Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.December 22, 2025, 8:55 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Captain — the adorable little chaos biscuit himself. Captain is a happy guy who definitely believes his voice is his superpower. If a leaf moves outside? He’ll let you know. A shadow walks by? He’ll let you know. Your own reflection in the window? Yep… he’ll let you know that too. He’s currently learning the house rules and, so far, the cats might as well be decorative pillows—he completely ignores them. This skinny little dude came in severely matted but was a total champ during his makeover. Now he’s rocking his “freshly baked” look. Captain is still a nervous nugget, especially around men, but he’s trying his best. Kids? He hasn’t met any yet, but with a gentle, respectful child, he’ll probably warm up. As for cuddling… he’s far too busy being excited, confused, and dramatic to sit still for snuggles. One day. Not today. He LOVES squeaky toys and will proudly squeak one for an unreasonable amount of time. Here is a great video of his classic “pick me up” dance—back legs up, front paws flailing on the fence like a tiny circus performer demanding attention. Captain is a small guy with a big personality who just needs time to settle in and realize the world isn’t out to get him. With patience and love, he’ll go from nervous baguette to confident loaf in no time. Captain is from a local impound. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Snickers is the kind of dog who quietly steals your heart before you even realize it’s happened. He’s a sweet, gentle little guy who may be a bit unsure at first, but he warms up within a few minutes and then happily settles in with his people. Snickers is so quiet and well-mannered that you may forget he’s even there — until he curls up next to you, preferably under a cozy blanket, ready for cuddles. He truly loves being close and enjoys lap time, affection, and calm companionship. Snickers does well with adult men and women, children over 10, and small dogs. He has a moderate energy level and a lovely balance of playfulness and relaxation. He enjoys toys, rides well in the car, and is both leash trained and crate trained. He’s eager to please, intelligent, gentle, and affectionate, with a shy, tender side that makes him especially endearing. When he’s happy to see you, Snickers doesn’t just wag his tail — he wags his whole body. It’s impossible not to smile when he does. He likes being outside, but he much prefers being indoors with his people where he feels safest and most content. Snickers came from a shelter in rough condition, with matted fur and skin issues that required grooming and care. Despite that difficult start, he has shown nothing but sweetness and resilience. There are no major challenges noted — he simply thrives with attention, toys, and a soft blanket to snuggle into. He may bark briefly in his kennel if other dogs around him are barking, but he settles when redirected. Snickers would do best in a home where he can spend plenty of time indoors with his people, soaking up love and affection. If you’re looking for a quiet, cuddly companion with a gentle soul and a heart full of love, Snickers may be the perfect match for you! Snickers is from Texas. They arrive in Minnesota on 01/24/2026 and will need to be picked up from the Ruff Start Rescue office in Princeton, MN between the hours of 8:30am and noon. Please plan for their arrival accordingly as we cannot accommodate pickups outside of this time frame.  Since they haven’t arrived yet, they are available exclusively through Ruff Start’s Foster to Adopt (FTA) Program.   Click here   to learn more about this program.   This pet is currently undergoing treatment for heartworm disease and is available through our Foster-to-Adopt (FTA) program. Activity must be restricted for several weeks during recovery. RSR will cover the full cost of treatment. RSR will provide heartworm preventatives until the retest is due. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Puma is an absolute sweetheart of a guy! He can be perfectly happy as the only pup soaking up all the attention, but because he’s still young, he truly enjoys having someone—human or canine—to play with. Puma has been incredibly sweet and gentle with people of all ages, small dogs, and even large dogs. As long as other dogs are friendly, Puma remains relaxed and non-defensive. He has met cats and tends to chase them—not to hurt them, but out of curiosity—so a cat-free home would be the best fit for him. He’s affectionate and people-focused, yearning for love and attention and more than happy to give it right back. Puma has a goofy side too—he’ll tease you by pretending to come over for pets and then suddenly dart off in the opposite direction, inviting you to join the fun. Puma loves going for walks and gets visibly excited when he sees the leash come out. He was dumped on a Texas highway, but despite that rough start, he showed immediate trust—allowing his finder to call him over, pet him, and safely pick him up. That trust and resilience speak volumes about his loving nature. Puma deserves a second chance in a home where he’ll be cherished. He has all the makings of a loyal, joyful companion and will bring laughter, affection, and devotion to the lucky family who adopts him. Puma is from Texas.    This pet is currently undergoing treatment for heartworm disease. Activity must be restricted for several weeks during recovery. RSR will cover the full cost of treatment. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Hi! I’m Scrappy, a young schnauzer/poodle mix puppy, and my foster mom says if happiness had four legs, a wagging tail, and perky ears… it would be me! I’m friendly with dogs of all sizes, enjoy adult humans (and since I’m still a pup, I’ll likely love humans of all ages), and while I might be a tiny bit unsure at first, I warm up in minutes. Once I do? Total lovebug. I’m affectionate & playful, even-tempered and eager to please , a proud lap pet , a toy enthusiast, and surprisingly quiet . My foster mom has cared for hundreds of dogs, and she says I’ve been one of the easiest she’s ever had. I just like being near my people and soaking up the good vibes. When I first arrived after spending 6 weeks crated at the vet, I needed a little decompression time. I growled a bit at first — not aggressive, just saying “please give me a moment.” After about 12 hours of being safely penned nearby, I relaxed… and within days I was totally comfortable, even at the groomer. With patience and kindness, I bloom quickly. The reason I was at the vet was because someone shot me with a BB gun. I still have some BBs in my leg to prove it, but the doc says they aren’t a problem and surgery might make things worse.  I also have a puppy habit of marking indoors, so I’ll need work on potty training. I wear a belly band inside, and with consistency and routine, this is very manageable. Also, I am being treated for heartworm - more details about that below. My Signature Moves: I do a happy little dance, pawing at the air (and at you!) when I’m excited, Belly rubs are my love language — I’ll roll right over if you look at me, After morning potty time, I sprint back inside, jump on the bed, and make sure Dad (still asleep) gives me attention, and I occasionally express my puppy side by carrying off a shoe or redecorating with a magazine. I’m a happy, happy dog looking for a home that understands I’m still learning, still growing, and ready to give a whole lot of love. If you’re looking for an easygoing pup with joy written all over him — I just might be your Scrappy. Scrappy is from Texas. They arrive in Minnesota on 01/24/2026 and will need to be picked up from the Ruff Start Rescue office in Princeton, MN between the hours of 8:30am  and noon . Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Mister is a happy go lucky guy who loves to play with toys, other dogs, or his people! He is very friendly once he's comfortable, but is a bit cautious when meeting new people at first. He has some feelings about his food bowl being touched while he's trying to eat, so making sure he has space to finish up his meal will help him feel safe and comfortable; with this in mind, it's important that any kids in the home can be respectful of his boundaries! Mister Man loves to toss his toys around as he prances in the yard. He isn't very vocal, but will let squirrels know that he spots them, and will join in if other dogs sound the alarm.  Mister French is a very good boy who is excited to settle into his new Minnesotan life. If he sounds like your man, please meet this handsome guy and see if it's a match!   MisterFrench is from Texas.
