UPDATE: Jagger resides in Austin, TX now but is still available for adoption. Meet Mellow Mick Jagger! This sweet guy once found himself at the shelter on the euthanasia list only for being scared of the leash, but those days are behind him thanks to positive reinforcement and CHEESE! :) He's fine on a leash now and enjoys a stroll in a calm neighborhood. He's crate trained, house-trained and good with people and dogs (hasn't been cat or kid tested yet). Jagger gets excited to see dogs through the fences, but then just sniffs and likes to chill in the yard with them and go on walks. He can be shy around strangers, but will walk up to a new human briefly and is fine with their soft pets, if he gets a premium STINKY cheese in return! ;) He’s so gentle! Mick honestly just wants to chill ALL day at home and wait for you to get home from your errands or hikes, rather than join you. Total home body kinda guy! Jagger is so ready for a forever home! Is that you? If you are in Austin or close to Austin, fill out an adoption application on our site: www.pawsoflarescue.org/adoptabledogs-mickjagger

Story
**looking for a foster or forever home in or near Los Angeles, CA only** Scruff is a 1-2 year old pup that was saved just an hour before euthanasia at a local shelter. His front right paw was damaged and he wouldn't put weight on it. He was a very timid and nervous boy at first, but he has since learned to trust humans and now loves belly rubs! It also has been determined that he needs a shoulder repair for his paw and he is awaiting surgery. Scruff has a second chance at life and he is loving every minute of it. He can't wait to spend it with a family furever, is it you?

Story
Meet Santos! He is a 3 year old schnauzer/husky mix. He is a sweet, goofy boy who loves being with his human. Santos enjoys playing outside and like to play fetch; although he is still learning to give up the ball after retrieving it. He knows his sit command and is very treat motivated, but he still needs some training. Santos is about 50 pounds and does not realize his size and sometimes jumps on you or can be mouthy. He does however, respond well to correction, but needs someone who can use patience and positive reinforcement to give him guidance and boundaries he needs. He is a smart boy with lots of potential. Santos gets along with other dogs that are more on the submissive side and are smaller than him and he is totally fine with cats. He needs a more experienced dog owner that will give him the boundaries and rules he needs. He will also do best in an adult only home. Santos is full grown at 50 pounds. Our adoptions are restricted to residents within 30 miles of the South Bay area of Los Angeles. We do not ship animals or do long distance adoptions. See our adoption policies for more details on our adoption process. If you are interested in adopting one of our available pups, please complete an adoption application. Story
✅Currently located in South Korea✅️ 💟Available to fly to LAX💟 Meet Ash💗 • With People: Needs time to warm up to strangers! She tends to shy away and tremble but stays calm when petted. With familiar people, she wags her tail and even relaxes comfortably by their side. • With Dogs: Enjoys slow introductions with new dogs. If another dog shows signs of discomfort, Ash also expresses unease. With familiar dog friends, she naturally approaches and greets them. She prefers spending time alone over playing actively with other dogs. • With Cats: Shows a strong interest in cats while walking. • Separation Anxiety: Whines when her guardian prepares to leave. When left alone for about five hours, she tends to scratch at doors and tries to get past safety gates. • House Training: Fully outdoor potty trained. She goes on walks 2-3 times a day for bathroom breaks. • Walking: Walks well without pulling! She may pull slightly when crossing streets but adjusts to her guardian’s pace. • Grooming: Stays calm during baths! Initially resists tooth brushing but remains still once it begins. • Car Sickness: Gets nervous in cars, trembling and panting. She is slowly adjusting and improving over time. 💌Special Notes💌 • A smart pup who has mastered “Sit, Paw, Lie Down, and Stay”! • Startles easily due to her timid nature, especially with sudden movements or approaches. She is fine with radio or audio sounds but finds TV noises a bit scary. • A gentle and cautious personality. Though shy, she is gradually opening up and expressing herself more. • Currently undergoing kennel training—she now sleeps and eats treats inside her kennel. ❗Health Status❗ • Spayed: Yes • Other: Microchipped, scheduled for heartworm recheck in June 2025. 🧡 Foster's Instagram: @ash__wad

Adopting a Schnauzer

Frequently asked questions about acquiring an Schnauzer - the pros and cons of adopting versus going through a breeder, and associated costs.

The cost to adopt a Standard Schnauzer from a shelter or rescue organization typically ranges from $150 to $400 and includes vaccinations, spaying/neutering, and a basic health exam. This is a much lower fee than the average cost to purchase a Standard Schnauzer from a breeder, which can range between $700 and $2,500.

The easiest way to adopt a Standard Schnauzer is through a rescue that specializes in the breed. Occasionally, you can find them at local shelters and rescues with no breed specializations. A great place to start is with a breed search on Adopt a Pet. The search will show you all the available Standard Schnauzers in your area.

Schnauzer fun facts

Fun Facts:

Schnauzers are the only Terriers that come from Germany instead of the British Isles.

Schnauzers go so far back, they were illustrated by famed German printmaker Albrecht Dürer in the early 1500s.

Schnauzers can hear frequencies twice as high as humans. Their excellent sense of hearing helped them with their early days of vermin-catching.
