Story
Apply to Adopt Me! Meet Tater! Tater is a super affectionate, energetic, snuggle king who would love to be part of your family. He’s estimated to be around 3yrs old, and we think he may be a Schnauzer mix based on his coat and features. He weighs in just under 14 lbs. and is a little guy with a big personality. Tater was found as a stray after being abandoned in a condemned home. He was severely neglected and his fur had to be shaved off because it was so overgrown and matted. Despite his history, someone did previously teach him things, because he knows “sit," “stay,” and he is fully potty-trained! He’s a great listener, and his foster mom imagines he is full of potential for learning new tricks and commands. Tater is the happiest little fella and is always excited to see you. He likes to stand on his hind legs and ask for affection, but his foster is working on teaching him not to do that. He’s a dominant boy and would do best in a home that doesn’t have another dominant dog. He hasn’t shown any interest in his foster sister, aside from showing some resource guarding with food and treats. His foster mom doesn’t think he’s ever been properly socialized with other dogs. Tater is jealous when other dogs get around his person, so it may be best if Tater is the king of his castle. He is not cat friendly and has not has been kid tested, but we think that he’d be just fine with respectful children. Tater is being crate trained, and does really well in his crate (after a brief initial protest). Tater doesn’t necessarily need a crate, but mainly had one because he was recovering from kennel cough when his foster first got him, so he needed to be separated from her other dog. Since Tater just wants to be with his person, he doesn’t love being left alone in a crate, but tolerates it. He does wander in there on his own when he wants some downtime, so it's not the crate itself he dislikes, but more so being left alone. He hasn’t shown any signs of getting into things, and his foster mom thinks that he could definitely work his way up to being left alone outside the crate. He does have some separation anxiety, which considering he was abandoned, is not surprising. However, his foster mom has already seen a good deal of improvement in his reaction to her coming & going, so she’s very optimistic this will only get better with time. Tater loves the outdoors and has thoroughly enjoyed chasing squirrels and lizards in the backyard. He’ll sit and keep guard for squirrels and then dart after them – he’s super fast! He’d love a home with a fenced backyard so he can run around and sunbathe. He get excited when his harness come out and loves leash walks. His foster mom anticipates he will love going on walks with his family. He currently has high anxiety on car rides, and should be either held securely or placed in a crate. It’s something that hopefully with time and positive experiences, he gets better at. But Tater is a little ball of love, and his foster mom sees him thriving in a home with an active family/person, who will give him lots of quality time together, and playtime outdoors. He would love nothing more than to sleep with you at night, and be the best little sidekick during the day. He is going to be an amazing addition to someone’s family. If you think you/your family might be a great fit for Tater, please submit an application and tell us about yourself! Tater Loves: His people, chasing squirrels, cheddar cheese, cuddle time, stuffies. Tater Hates: Thunderstorms, car rides, being left alone. September 15, 2024, 11:48 pm
