Story
Stella was saved from ACS- the City of San Antonio Animal Care Services euthanasia list. We were happy to bust her out for a new life in Colorado! Stella just recently entered our care so we are still learning more about her... more to come! Notes from ACS: "Dog displayed socialability by coming over for treats and affection with a loose wiggly body and wagging tail. Dog was easy to leash and walk outside to a play yard. Dog came over for affection with a wagging tail while in the play yard. Dog was easy to walk and return to kennel." Stella is now looking to get rescued again- this time by you, her adopter! Once a committed adopter or foster is found, we can schedule Stella on the next transport so she can put San Antonio, Texas in her rearview and head to Denver, Colorado! ##2282108##

Story
Rocket is a sweet Schnauzer mix that we rescued back in 2015 as a puppy - he will turn 10 years old this year. He loves to cuddle with us, and is mainly just a chill guy who wants to hang out and is fine doing nothing. He enjoys being outside, but everything he does he enjoys more when he’s near his adult humans. He loves to be with us. We recently had a child who is now a walking toddler, and for whatever reason, Rocket has not adjusted well to that and has shown to be defensive and aggressive towards him. He has not bitten him, but has growled and made advancements towards him - enough to make us concerned that we don’t want to risk anything. We have made the difficult decision to try to re-home. We want the best situation for all of us, and we think Rocket deserves to be in a home where he can get more attention and be put in less stressful situations (we are recommending a home without small children). Our house is just a little crazy now.

Story
Goofy was rescued from a high kill shelter in Texas. Meet and greets are by appointment only.  An approved application is required to schedule a meeting. Check out our events page for upcoming open adoption events! We have no additional back story or update for this dog at this time.  When we do, it will be updated here.  This is all the information we have currently. Approved Applicants may make the adoption fee payment by clicking donate above.  Partial adoption fees will not hold a dog. Dogs adopted with our rescue come with FREE training from #GoodPup to help you build strong bonds from the start! If upon meeting the dog of your choosing at your scheduled pickup time you find that you aren't a good match, your deposit will be fully refunded. Adoption fees include vaccines up until time of adoption, microchip, spay/neuter and 1st 30 days of free pet insurance.  We are not affiliated with MetLife pet insurance. (you have to sign up for the insurance or it will not go into effect).  Adoption fees help cover the medical care of the animals while he or she waits for a new home, as well as food and transportation costs. These fees help to provide care for the other animals in the shelter or rescue group who may have medical bills that are much higher than any possible adoption fee. The money also acts as a donation to help support the organization as a whole, allowing the group to continue its efforts to rescue and rehome pets. The dogs in our care are fostered in Colorado, Texas, and New Mexico.  While all dogs are picked up during our scheduled times, sometimes transport dates change due to unforeseen circumstances.   More questions?  Read our FAQs here: https://4p4l.org/faqs/  Breed labels are a "best guess" by a shelter veterinarian and cannot be guaranteed.  A new study has concluded that (in layman's terms), breed assumption is NOT indicative of behavior in mixed breed dogs.  Therefore, if a dog looks presumably to be a German Shepherd breed, one cannot assume the dog will have a high prey drive.  From the study: "Although many physical traits were associated with breeds, behavior was much more variable among individual dogs. In general, physical trait heritability was a greater predictor of breed but was not necessarily a predictor of breed ancestry in mutts. Among behavioral traits, biddability—how well dogs respond to human direction—was the most heritable by breed but varied significantly among individual dogs. Thus, dog breed is generally a poor predictor of individual behavior and should not be used to inform decisions relating to selection of a pet dog" - https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.abk0639 ##2319537##

Story
Meet Greta – A Loving and Devoted Standard SchnauzerGreta is a 7-year-old Standard Schnauzer weighing 33 pounds, with a beautiful all-black coat that makes her truly stand out. While she may be shy at first, she has a sweet and gentle personality that begins to shine once she feels comfortable.Greta adores pets and attention—she will happily follow you around, always hoping for some love and scratches. While she enjoys the company of other dogs, she would much rather be by your side, soaking up affection. She is incredibly loving and forms strong bonds with the people she trusts. She takes treats from your hand, and treats are truly the way to her heart. Greta is still nervous in new environments, so she will need a patient and understanding home that allows her to build confidence at her own pace. She walks on a leash, but she is still adjusting to new experiences and will need gentle encouragement along the way. While she does get along well with other dogs, she prefers human companionship over playtime with her canine friends. This gorgeous girl is looking for a loving, patient home where she can feel safe, build trust, and continue to blossom at her own pace. If you’re searching for a devoted, affectionate companion who will stay by your side, Greta is ready to bring warmth and love into your life. Before being rescued, many of our dogs have had limited socialization, so they may need a bit of time to adjust to life as a family pet. Older kids are often a great fit for our dogs, and homes with younger children will be considered based on each dog`s individual needs. Skills like house training and leash walking may take a little extra patience and practice. However, with understanding and a gentle hand, most of these dogs adapt quite quickly. Being a part of their rehabilitation is a truly rewarding experience. To learn more about mill dogs and start the adoption process, visit our website.
