Story
This is Honeybun, a sweet 1 year old Poodle mix. She is a sensitive yet very smart soul, searching for the perfect home to soak her in love. Originally chained outside in the elements by her owner, she was "rescued" only to be dropped off again to fend for herself as a stray. She has hopped around a lot between temporary homes who weren't able to care for her long term and has finally landed with Hearts of the North where we will help her find her forever.
Honeybun currently weighs 42lbs. She is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and heartworm negative. She is currently living with other dogs, cats, and children. She knows how to sit, shake, drop it, come and stay. Honeybun is *almost* house trained and does best on a consistent schedule. You can expect her to have a few accidents in a new environment as she feels out her new routine and adjusts.
Due to her past, Honeybun does have some anxiety and attachment issues. She will do best with an owner who spends time at home (i.e. works from home, stay at home mom, etc...) but that is not a requirement as long as you're willing to help Honeybun adjust and be patient and provide her structure to feel at ease. Some things that we've found helpful in the ability to help Honeybun settle while in fostercare are:
Tethering Honeybun in the home - Either to a stationary object like closed door, piano, or to you as handler.
Placing a radio or white noise machine where she is crated
Reinforcing good behavior and paying no mind to her anxious behaviors (crying, restlessness, etc...) in order to create positive moments of learning healthy attachments
************************************Honeybun is located in a foster home. We are happy to coordinate a meet & greet for pre-approved adopters. To get started, please submit an adoption application at https://bit.ly/USAHOTNADOPT2024
Adoption process:Potential adopters complete our online application. From there, we contact them to continue the screening process including checking references, vet checks, and a personal phone interview. Upon completion, potential adopters are pre-approved.
From there, potential adopters are put in touch with the foster parent(s) of the dog they are interested in adopting. If a specific dog is not in mind, admins will make suggestions based on who we feel will be good candidates for their home. We take the foster's opinions into high consideration when determining ideal fit for an adoption.
Once the dog is determined to be a good fit for the adoptive home, the adopter is given advisement on decompression, training, safety gear, and future preventative vetting. The adoption contract is signed and adoption fee paid to finalize the adoption.
