We do our best to provide information that will help determine if the animal might be a good fit for you. Please note that behaviors may change in a home environment. We also ask our applicants to assume that any animal they adopt from us will need to be potty-trained and learn house manners, although this is not always the case. In most cases, the listed breeds are also a best guess. Our online animal bios are designed to provide as much information as possible and answer some anticipated questions. We do not have the resources to respond to emails with more specific questions. We are receiving an unusually high number of applications at this time! Applications are reviewed as they are received, but we do not select adopters on a first-come basis. Our job is to ensure each pet is placed into the best fit home for them and that adopters are paired with an animal that is a good fit for their lifestyle. All animals will stay online until they are “pending adoption”. Therefore, if an animal is still listed, we are still accepting applications for him/her! Please do not send inquiries about a specific animal's availability as this can change quickly over the course of the day. The fastest way to get a response is to simply submit an application! Story
Meet Simon! Calling all doodle lovers! We want to introduce you to Alvin, Simon, and Theodore! Simon is a one-year-old, 74-pound doodle mix who's timid tenderness will win you over from the moment you meet him. The boys arrived at GLDR after spending most of their lives living outside. In spite of their rough beginning, they crave the love and attention only a family can provide. Simon yearns to trust, but is very hesitant around new people. He is a very tolerant boy and we know with kindness and patience, he will continue to become more confident and connecting. Simon finds comfort with his fellow pups and would benefit from another confident dog in the home to help him blossom. He has already made so much progress, and we can't wait to see him be able to relax and realize how great family life can be. Training Simon will be a great way to form a lifelong bond with him. He will look to his handlers for guidance and reassurance. His new family will need to be understanding with him while he adjusts to his new surroundings. He will thrive off of daily exercise, enrichment, and positive reinforcement. A fenced-in yard for him explore safely is a must for Simon. Based on our evaluation, we feel Simon would do best in an active, but predictable family with adults or families with kids ages 12 and up. As he finds comfort with other dogs, we prefer him to go to a home with another confident dog who can show him the ropes. We are happy to do a meet and greet with your family fur baby. If Simon sounds like your kind of pup, don't wait! Head to greatlakesdogrescue.com today and submit your application for our sensational Simon!
