Story
Pulaski, VA (zip code 24301)- Marty will be 7 on April 10, 2025. He is current on all of his shots and is neutered. He is a big guy, 159 lbs. He’s gentle and great with children but one must be careful of his size. Marty was adopted October 2020 from our rescue by the wonderful Mr. Chuck Thorton and his family. Marty was up for adoption due to Marty biting a small dog walking past original owner's home. They didnt have a fence AND the family was moving anyway for the military once again so asked if we could find him a home. Marty did live was loads of other large/medium dogs 5 years ago with a dog trainer with no issue. Hasnt had much interaction thus far but never an issue. He loves the neighbors' dogs next door and play everyday chasing each other up and down the fence. Marty was a true military dog from puppyhood to 2 years old - traveling with the family. He lived in Peru, Ecuador, NJ and Conn and now in SW Virginia. Today however, and very very sadly, Chuck Thorton, retired, beloved deputy sheriff in SW Virginia suddenly passed away 3 weeks ago. Family is distraught and a bit in shock still. Chuck's wife, Marge has to move now and cannot take Marty with her. We need to find a loving forever home for Marty. He was Chuck's best friend and went on adventures with family including boat rides. FROM MARGE - Marty will be seven and healthy. He’s very laid back and is great with everyone. He hasn’t been around dogs for a while but he used to be great with medium/large dogs (not good at all with small dogs and cats). We have a fenced in yard that has dogs in all of the surrounding houses. They all love barking and chasing each other. He does not do well with cats or tiny dog. His chase instinct kicks in, which is the only negative thing I can think of. Before we got him we were told that he attacked a little dog. He’s healthy with the exception of hip issues since he’s gotten older. Only because he’s stiffer than he used to be and doesn’t jump up to high places like he used to. Here are loads of photos and a screenshot of family loving this big boy.
