For inquiries email susannah@compactcaninerescue.org Fee: $700 Location: Things to consider when applying to adopt Prince: 1 year old Shih Tzu needs to learn potty manners needs to learn leash walking he is a RUNNER and a fenced yard is required for his adoption he will require basic manners/basic obedience class completion before the adoption is final   Prince is new in rescue. He was a stray at the Norfolk Animal Care and Adoption Center. He was brought into the shelter after being found running the streets. Upon arriving at the shelter he darted out of the truck because he is so malnourished and thin, he squeezed through the bars of his crate and escaped. We feel sure he did the same at his home and then became lost but we have no proof. But, we do know he is a young Shih Tzu, around 1 year. He will require a fence for adoption due to his history of running. He will definitely need some TLC. A spa day, vet appointment and neuter will be scheduled ASAP!! Then he will be ready for his furever home. He loves to run and play in the yard. He was a stray and was at the Norfolk shelter. He had severe matting of the hair around his eyes, and he could barely see. The shelter shaved his hair around his eyes and we took him to the eye specialist. He is currently on eyedrops and doing very well. I was adopted but returned because I could not get along with the cat! :( Things to consider when applying to adopt Farley: senior shih tzu/mini poodle mix 18-20 pounds VISUALLY IMPAIRED needs a fenced yard NO children - their sudden, unpredictable movements scare him does NOT like to be groomed (may require a shave down under sedation quarterly) he is tolerant of calm, social dog DOES NOT like cats Farley has been with our rescue for a few months now. He is a 20 pound, 10 year old, visually impaired, senior Shih Tzu/Mini-Poodle mix. He gets along well with the resident dogs in the home. He loves attention. Farley's ideal home would be an all adult, quiet home where he can roam a fenced yard to sniff and explore, eat his two meals daily and sleep as he pleases, where he pleases. He LOVES a soft fluffy, calming bed to lounge upon. He is basically looking to retire with his own butler/chambermaid! LOL Farley deserves better than he was given. Will you be his HERO?? **He is not a fan of grooming or nail clipping. **Absolutely NO children. While he is not aggressive towards them, he is visually impaired and does not understand a child's sudden movements. Drew is a Shorkie, neutered, up to date on all vaccines and preventatives. He has lived in the rescue successfully with numerous dogs of all breeds and sizes. He does get nervous around larger dogs due to being attacked in the past. He does well with cats. He would be quite content as a lap dog.

Story
Fanta is one of the 60 Shih-Tzu recently surrendered by a breeder. They were all flea-infested and living in very unsanitary conditions. Most of the dogs lost almost all of their hair, but you can see this cute guy managed to keep most of his. Fanta is 5-6 years old. He's come a long way since arriving a couple of weeks ago. He was very skittish but is so much better. He has no problem meeting new people as long as they are patient with him and let him come up to them at his pace. His personality is starting to come out and he is starting to play and can be very amusing and goofy. He is a little nervous around the cats in the home but doesn't try to chase them. The foster family does not have any other dogs but we know he lived in a house with 59 other dogs his size so he may be OK with small dogs, but it would probably take him awhile to warm up. He would do good as an only dog. He loves to curl up on the couch with his foster mom and loves to be next to her all the time so he does need a home where someone is home a lot. He doesn't like being in a crate, but he is housebroken so no need to crate him. He does walk well on a leash. He does have some corneal density in his right eye which impairs his vision but he sees around it and that shouldn't change. He is vaccinated, neutered, negative for heartworms and micro-chipped. Fanta would do great with a person who wants a companion to be with them all the time. Young children would not be good since he is still skittish. We can see he is already doing so much better than when he arrived, and we know he is going to make a great companion for someone. Sprite is now available! She is one of the 60 Shih-Tzu who were surrendered by a breeder. She is a shy 6yo little girl. Despite her living conditions before arriving, she's sweet as can be. She has become curious but is still skittish and startles very easily. Surprisingly she is really good with the younger child in the house. She would probably do OK with well-behaved, somewhat calm children. Does not do well with sudden movements or noises She was a little bit shy around the other dogs in the home when she arrived but is now getting along with dogs and cats of all sizes, including the foster family's big dog! She is eats well… Goes in her crate during the day when no one is home but prefers to cuddle at night. She always wants to be with her favorite people. She loves to give kisses or nose touches and always wants to know where everyone is. She is not 100% housebroken yet and is still learning to walk on a leash. She actually lost the most hair of the dogs we took in so her hair still looks a little sparse, but it is growing back and she is starting to look very cute.
