Story
Meet Fredricks !! This guy is a total ham. He is adorable and super fun loving. A really good boy. We cant figure out why someone would neglect and dump such a wonderful little guy. He came to us from the shelter where he was so matted,he couldn’t be touched without nipping at people due to the pain the mats in his fur were causing him. We had him immediately groomed and not only does he look like a proper gentleman now, he feels so so so much better!! Fredericks is said to be an approx. 8-year-old Shih Tzu mix. He acts like he is way younger and is a fun spunky guy. He currently weighs 11 pounds and is full grown. He will be neutered, microchipped and up to date on his vaccines as part of his adoption. He is heartworm negative. This boy is always jumping up on your leg to get some attention. He follows you everywhere and is such a joyful little guy. He likes to be carried around and do anything you are doing. He has no problem barking at “intruders” coming into the home and giving a valiant home defense effort from the safety of the couch. LOL. Fredricks has been good with dogs of all sizes. He will get growly with them if they are too much for him but he has a good patience level prior to that. He has not met any cats so we are not sure how he would do. He is not much bigger than a cat so they may do okay. He is not fostered with any kids but did really love the 8 year old he hung out with after his grooming appointment. With that said he does have an issue with nipping if someone tries to grab his legs. He has been a bit off and on with this and it may be residual effect of his pain from the matting he had. He would need to be around older children that understand fully not to mess with his legs at all. He so far has not had any issues with being picked up or held it seems to solely be the intentional reach or grab of a leg. Fredrick is crate trained but can be vocal at times while inside the crate. He really likes to be with his people and will protest if he can see you while he is in there. He walks fairly well on a leash. He can pull a bit when excited but nothing too hard to manage. He has done fineon all the car rides he has been on. He doesn’t seem to really like them but just lays on the floorboard and does not get sick. He is mostly potty trained. He does not have anyregular potty accidents inside however he does some leg lifting/marking inside still. He has an upcoming neuter which will hopefully resolve that. He has no problem wearing a belly band to help with that inside until he learns to stop doing it. He’s had no trouble sharing food, treats or toys with humans. He’s been grumbly with other dogs trying to take his toys or approaching his food to quickly but so far it hasn’t escalated past that. He listens fairly well and is learning more and more each day. He is a dog that will get under your feet while following you around so if you are an unstable walker he may not be the best fit. Overall Fredrick is a great little dog. He is both active and cuddly. A good mix of both. He is spunky and always ready to go where ever you want to go. He is glued to his people and wants to be involved in everything going on in the home. He will make someone a wonderful companion! 📌📌He will need regular grooming. This requires time to get him to and from the appointments and additional expenses to pay for it. On average a dog of this breed will need grooming every 6 weeks. This should be fully considered prior to applying to adopt him. ➡️Vet and home checks required. Located in Hampton VA. (He will need to be adopted within a 1 hour drive radius) ‼️Please message VillageDogResource@gmail.com or for faster response message our Facebook Page directly with questions or to get an application.‼️

Story
Fanta is one of the 60 Shih-Tzu recently surrendered by a breeder. They were all flea-infested and living in very unsanitary conditions. Most of the dogs lost almost all of their hair, but you can see this cute guy managed to keep most of his. Fanta is 5-6 years old. He's come a long way since arriving a couple of weeks ago. He was very skittish but is so much better. He has no problem meeting new people as long as they are patient with him and let him come up to them at his pace. His personality is starting to come out and he is starting to play and can be very amusing and goofy. He is a little nervous around the cats in the home but doesn't try to chase them. The foster family does not have any other dogs but we know he lived in a house with 59 other dogs his size so he may be OK with small dogs, but it would probably take him awhile to warm up. He would do good as an only dog. He loves to curl up on the couch with his foster mom and loves to be next to her all the time so he does need a home where someone is home a lot. He doesn't like being in a crate, but he is housebroken so no need to crate him. He does walk well on a leash. He does have some corneal density in his right eye which impairs his vision but he sees around it and that shouldn't change. He is vaccinated, neutered, negative for heartworms and micro-chipped. Fanta would do great with a person who wants a companion to be with them all the time. Young children would not be good since he is still skittish. We can see he is already doing so much better than when he arrived, and we know he is going to make a great companion for someone. If you are interested in Fanta our application can be found at www.homesfurhounds.org. He is located in Williamsburg.

Story
Sprite is now available! She is one of the 60 Shih-Tzu who were surrendered by a breeder. She is a shy 6yo little girl. Despite her living conditions before arriving, she's sweet as can be. She has become curious but is still skittish and startles very easily. Surprisingly she is really good with the younger child in the house. She would probably do OK with well-behaved, somewhat calm children. Does not do well with sudden movements or noises She was a little bit shy around the other dogs in the home when she arrived but is now getting along with dogs and cats of all sizes, including the foster family's big dog! She is eats well… Goes in her crate during the day when no one is home but prefers to cuddle at night. She always wants to be with her favorite people. She loves to give kisses or nose touches and always wants to know where everyone is. She is not 100% housebroken yet and is still learning to walk on a leash. She actually lost the most hair of the dogs we took in so her hair still looks a little sparse, but it is growing back and she is starting to look very cute. She is vaccinated, HW negative, spayed and micro-chipped. If you are interested in meeting Sprite our application can be found at www.homesfurhounds.org. She is located in Williamsburg, Va.

Story
Dr. Pepper is now available! She is one of the 60 Shih-Tzu who were surrendered by a breeder. Dr. Pepper is a shy 3yo little girl. Despite her living conditions before arriving, she's sweet as can be. She has become curious but startles very easily. The sofa is her current safe space, and she spends a lot of time there. Dr. Pepper is a "velcro" dog and does not like to be alone. She does get a bit anxious and shakes if her person leaves her sight. She does not like being on a leash, but when taken out, she quickly does her business and heads for the door. For the most part, she is doing very well with housebreaking and has only had a few accidents. Given how easy Dr. Pepper startles a quieter home with no young children would be best. She would do O.K. in a home with another laid-back dog her size to show her how to be a dog. She has suffered significant hair loss due to flea infestation. While a lot of her hair has started growing back and she looks much better, we can not guarantee that it all will. But we think she looks cute just like she is. Dr. Pepper has been spayed, is up to date on vaccinations, micro-chipped and HW negative. We know the right home is out there for this young, sweet girl. If you are interested in meeting her our application can be found at www.homesfurhounds.org. She is located in Williamsburg.
