More "sought out breeds may have a higher adoption donation) Adoption donations are to be made via cash, or credit/debit card. There is a $5 fee to run cards. We do not accept checks for adoption fees. Please remember to bring a martingale collar and leash (non-retractable) with you the day of the adoption. We typically have adoption events on Wednesdays 5-7pm, Fridays 6-8pm, and Saturdays 11am-3pm. Our adoption center is located at 3602 Lafayette Blvd, Suite 101, Fredericksburg, VA 22408. It's important that you keep an eye on your emails for any changes or updates during the adoption process. Old Dominion Humane Society is a volunteer based organization. We are run completely by volunteers, who also have full time jobs and families, so we appreciate your patience. Currently, the average timeframe for a response to your application is 3 days. Note: ODHS adopts within a 350 mile radius of Fredericksburg, Virginia. A $50 out of state fee applies.

George is a 4-year-old Shih Tzu mix with a heart as big as his, usual, fluffy coat. Recently surrendered by his longtime owner who could no longer care for him, George finds himself feeling a bit lost and heartbroken in the kennel environment. The world he’s known for the last four years has been turned upside down, and he’s eager to find a loving home where he can feel safe and cherished once again. Despite his current confusion, George's sweet and cuddly nature shines through. He’s a little lovebug who craves snuggles and enjoys being close to his humans—he’s like a baby in fur form! George is neutered, microchipped, and will soon be fully vaccinated, so he’s ready to start his new life with you. If you’re looking for a devoted companion to shower with love (and maybe a few belly rubs), George is your guy.

Charlie is an affectionate Shih Tzu mix who loves toys almost as much as he loves his people. He can entertain himself for quite a while, burying his toys under blankets and pillows, walking around with a toy in his mouth, or lying on his back holding a toy with his paws. He also loves cuddle, lap, and play time with his people and will gaze adoringly into their eyes. He enjoys meeting new people (especially if a treat is involved!), but he will stay at a respectful distance and approach them on his own time.    Charlie is a sturdy boy who weighs around 16 pounds. He enjoys being the center of his guardian's world, so we are asking that he go to a home without to many dogs because we want him to be spoiled!  Charlie does great with no accidents if he is let outside in the backyard every few hours like most dogs. He will go on indoor pee pads if necessary. Charlie prefers not to be left alone for too long, so we are asking for a home with someone home part of the day. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.JoJo was rescued from a local shelter. He was very matted and had not been properly cared for. He now has a new lease on life and is a happy loving boy. Unfortunately it seems as though he was never kept in a crate so he likes to bark when crated. He has also not met cats before now so he is VERY interested in them and it may not be a good idea to have him in a home with cats.
