Reintroducing Pluto, an 8-month-old Shih Tzu with a calm and gentle nature. Pluto came to our local shelter as an owner surrender and has been in foster care for over two months. In that time, his true personality is just starting to emerge. Pluto isn’t your typical puppy—he has very little energy and doesn’t constantly seek out affection. It’s almost as if the world around him is a bit overwhelming, and he prefers to simply coexist rather than be in the center of attention. He’s the type of dog who will take a while to come out of his shell, and during that time, he may seem indifferent. Though Pluto enjoys the company of other dogs, he’s not one to actively seek playtime or interaction. He’s calm and content, and his ideal companion would respect his space while offering a quiet presence. Because of his more reserved nature, we feel that young children could be too overwhelming for him. What Pluto truly seeks is a peaceful, quiet home—one where he can curl up on a lap when he wants attention but can also have his space. He’s looking for someone who understands his temperament and is patient as he continues to adjust to his new surroundings. While Pluto is undeniably adorable, he requires a very specific type of home, and not all families may be the right fit. If you’re seeking a low-energy, laid-back companion, Pluto might just be the perfect addition to your home.

Meet this handsome young boy, Bogart. Bogart is typical shih-tzu with all that personality! He of course likes to be in charge. He is two years old and 20 pounds. He is looking for a family who understands his breed, no small children, and possibly another doggie to play with. RECOMMENDATIONS & PROCEDURES Please note, the following are recommendations for puppies and different breeds of dogs. We will evaluate each application on an individual basis to see what is best for the dog/puppy and the potential adopter. Puppies are very fragile and not toys. We recommend children be at least six years old to be considered to adopt a puppy. Small breed dogs ( such as chihuahuas, yorkies, shih tzus , etc) we recommend children be at least eight years old. Herding, working breeds we recommend children to be at least 12 years old. Again these are recommendations. Adoption Procedures: We will travel up to two hours ( one way) to do physical home visits and we do not do virtual home visits. Most of our dogs come from bad situations and we want to know where their forever home is going to be. While we do not require fencing on all dogs, certain dogs that need a fenced in yard, will not be adopted unless potential adopter has one. We also adopt some dogs to people who live in apartments ( as long as the landlord approves) but not all dogs. We do not adopt to anyone under 21 years of age. We also do not feel college students are the best fit for most of our dogs. Most of our dogs again, come from bad situations and need lots of attention. Most college students have financial responsibilities and we feel need to be focused on school. Our goal is to match the dog with a family that fits the dog’s needs. We are solely focused on what is best for each dog in our rescue. These dogs have had enough moving around, dumped out like trash, and we want to ensure they find their forever home. We do require you sign a contract and if at any time you cannot continue to provide for the dog, the dog comes back to the rescue. Your first step to adoption is filling our our on line application. Meet AJ Baron! Baron is a very sweet, gentle dog. He gets along beautifully with other dogs and he is cat friendly as well! He loves affection from his people. He is not a lapdog, but does enjoy companionship. He is crate, trained, and doing well with the house training as long as kept on a good consistent schedule. Baron does need a fenced in yard. He loves toys and is very smart. He listens well and is not a barker. AJ Baron would make a wonderful companion to a loving adopter and he can't wait to meet you!! Though we’re still learning if she knows commands or how well she walks on a leash, Nova is eager to please and should pick up on training quickly. Spending time working with her will not only help her learn but also create a strong bond between you. How do I act when I first meet new people? Loving. Nova will eagerly approach you for pets and will jump into your lap if you allow it. Expect her to jump up and place her front paws on your legs as her way of saying, “Hey, I’m down here and I need your attention and loving.” She simply loves being close to you! Other tips and tidbits: We don't know Nova's exact birthdate.  Her owner did not, either.  Records at her previous vet show an estimated birthdate of 11/23/2017. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule if a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
