Story
Hunter is a 9-10 year old, 11-pound, male Shih Tzu Mix from New York City!
Hunter is simply TOO sweet (quite literally!) he suffers from diabetes, requiring daily insulin injections. While he does require some TLC for his diabetes management, he is a spry little guy, who will pay you in kind through the love he gives!
He has adjusted very well during his time in at his foster’s apartment in the city. Hunter enjoys snuggling, going on walks and playing with toys. During his time with his foster family, he seems to be houstrained to go outside once settled into his routine. His forever family will need to continue working with Hunter to reinforce and advance the progress he's been making.
Hunter is still working on his leash skills, but is very easy to handle. He is enthusiastic, curious and brave, so he happily trots in front of his foster family. Hunter is a joyful, outgoing, and loving dog.
Hunter has done well in pen during the day while his foster is at work. He exhibits brief separation anxiety then is fine for the remainder of the time alone. He loves to be cozy with his foster family and can often be found with his favorite cow plushy.
Hunter is quite flexible and could excel with a low key or an active family. He appreciates downtime and active moments! He shows no fear when meeting new people, in fact he often approaches them enthusiastically to receive attention.
He would be fine as a solo dog or with another small or medium dog. Hunter currently lives with a foster brother (dog) and is always excited to meet and greet new dogs on walks. He barks at large dogs, but is not aggressive. Hunter can go to a home with children of any ages. He approaches and receives attention from children without issues. He has lots of love to give and can’t wait to share it with you!
Vaccinated for rabies, DHPP, and bordetella. Heartworm negative, neutered, and microchipped. Current on flea, tick, and heartworm prevention.
