He’s the cutest—that’s sweet little Rufus! Introducing Rufus, a precious 5 year old Shih Tzu who is so ready to meet you. Rufus is 19 pounds and shrinking—he’s on a proper diet to get him to a healthier weight. Rufus was rescued from Swainsboro, Georgia, and after a rough several years, he’s so excited for a better, happier life ahead.
Despite his hard years, Rufus is a very sweet and calm boy. He was not well-cared for in his early days, but that does not stop him from giving his love and trust to humans and embracing his second chance. Rufus loves to be pet and held, and he’s so cuddly that we love to give him all the attention he wants. He walks well on a leash and is committed to getting more exercise as part of his new, healthy lifestyle change. Rufus is a sweetheart in need of some TLC, and we know the perfect family is out there for him.
Due to Rufus' tough start to life, he can only see light out of his right eye, but do not worry! Rufus has the most beautiful outlook on life and does not let it stop him or slow him down one bit. Rufus will need eye drops for the remainder of his life and he is already a pro and does not mind them one bit!
Rufus would do great in a home with other pets and kids, or in a home with just one or two humans. A household of any size would make him happy, and he can’t wait to meet his forever family. Rufus is ready to embrace a wonderful future and hopes it’s with you! Rufus is ready for adoption on 1/3/25.
Rufus is neutered, up-to-date on age-appropriate vaccinations, and microchipped.

HFG Dog Rescue is a 100 percent foster-based rescue located in Berkeley Heights, NJ with a sister location, The Almost Home Wellness Center, in Aiken, SC. All of our dogs are rescued from kill shelters in SC + GA and once ready for adoption live in loving local NJ foster homes until they find forever families of their own. Our fosters begin basic training, housebreaking, and leash-walking skills to help pair you with the perfect pup for life!
