Story
Hello, I am a sweet little senior male Shih Tzu named Marley. I am about 12 years old, weigh 12 lbs, have cataracts, and see mostly shadows, missing some teeth and the tip of my tongue sticks out, but I’m an easygoing gentleman, and friendly with everyone. I was a wreck and feeling pretty miserable when the San Antonio City Animal Shelter picked me up off the street. I was so badly matted they had to give me a full shave down, and underneath all that hair was the most handsome little man! These days my soft and silky tan and white coat is growing back nicely, I’m feeling great, and now I’m ready to find a loving forever home. Besides being sweet and mannerly, and friendly with everyone, I tend to be a couch potato, but I do enjoy exploring my surroundings and I LOVE my morning walks, sometimes trotting along so joyfully that I’m in the lead, walking faster than my foster mom! I co-exist nicely with my canine companions, and maybe a cat if I ever meet one, but my playful days are behind me. I’m more about relaxing, being affectionate, sharing little kisses on your hand, snacking on my favorite cheese, and napping in my doggy bed. I’m crate-trained (but don't need to be in one), housebroken, well-behaved, and I rarely bark. I’m easy to love and easy to live with and would like to spend my golden years being loved and well cared for. I have gobs of love to give and will be the best little companion anyone could ask for. I hear the Eastern Seaboard is the place to be, so inquire about me today! * 4 Little Paws is based in CT. We adopt in many different states along the East Coast. Transport costs are included in the adoption fee. If you are located outside the states we typically adopt to, we have options to get the dog of your dreams to your location.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Gideon (GA) is a neutered male Shih Tzu mix rescued in Georgia. Our veterinary partner estimates that Gideon is 10 years old at the time of intake in February 2022.  Gideon is good with people who respect his space and he's good with other dogs, but cats--not so much!  He is an adorable, albeit grumpy, senior boy who lives life on his own terms--he will let you know when you are violating his person or his space.  He doesn't like cats and he doesn't like to be picked up; he likes to have his back rubbed, but if you hit the wrong spot, watch out!  Gideon will do best in a home with snarky dog experience, where he can be independent, and if there are children they should be older and capable of respecting Gideon and his space.  This guy's rough life has shaped him, and he deserves to spend the rest of his years in a loving, forever home with his special person who understands him and lets Gideon be Gideon.  If you are Gideon's special person, please apply online to adopt Gideon (GA) at www.rescuedogsrocknyc.org.      RDR's adoption fees include the cost of spay/neuter/microchip at an RDR-approved facility, whether completed before adoption or if deferred because the pet is too young or has a medical issue.  All pets are also current on age-appropriate vaccines at the time of adoption. Given technical constraints on this database, this pet's location may not be as listed here. We can, however, provide transport support for pets in foster at a considerable distance from the adopter.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 5, 2024, 10:34 am

Story
Born 10-13-09, Teuscher is a Shih Tzu through and through. There is nothing Teuscher likes more than a nice belly rub! He has beautiful hair that grows, so he must be brushed daily and groomed regularly. Teuscher is bowlegged, and consequently we limit his activity so that he doesn’t overdo it and we avoid letting him climb stairs. Teuscher can be possessive of his toys, so we are mindful not to take anything away from him unless we trade it for a treat. Teuscher weighs 14 lbs. We really appreciate that you want to give a shelter animal a home. The Humane Society of New York was founded in 1904. The Vladimir Horowitz/Wanda Toscanini Horowitz Adoption Center is a no-kill shelter. Our on-site clinic and staff of skilled Veterinarians looks after the health and well-being of every animal here. We also have a great adoption matchmaking team who will gladly take your profile and match you or your pet with just the right cat or dog companion. We start the process once you have submitted an application to us. Once a completed application is received, the HSNY Adoption Team will review it and we will contact you if we are going to take next steps. FOR AN APPLICATION, please visit http://humanesocietyny.org/adoptions/ and download then email your application to hsny.adopt@gmail.com. Our one and only location is: 306 East 59th Street (between 1st & 2nd Avenue) in Manhattan. If you'd like to sponsor Teuscher, please email amk.hsny@verizon.net. You can give as much or as little as you like. Your donation is tax deductible. Thank you! For additional information on the Humane Society of New York, please visit: humanesocietyny.org. Thank you!

Story
Toby (born 11/4/2019) is a young Shih Tzu mix. Toby was abandoned in terrible condition, underweight at a little over 11 pounds, with matted fur and an ear infection. Toby needed full medical attention from us and with nursing from the caring adoption team his weight is up to almost 14 pounds now so that he was in better shape to be neutered and have a much-needed dental. At first Toby was quiet and seemed in shock, he is now playful and always ready to go for a walk! Toby is now a happy fellow and has made friends with the other small dogs. He loves hanging around, having his beautiful hair brushed, rolling around on the carpet and snuggling up for a nap on a sofa – especially if there is a cozy blanket. We really appreciate that you want to give a shelter animal a home. The Humane Society of New York was founded in 1904. Story
B-I-N-G-O, B-I-N-G-O, B-I-N-G-O, and Bingo was his name-oh! Introducing Bingo, a 12-year old, 16-pound Shih Tzu mix who’ll have you smiling and humming that tune all day long! Cute as a button, Bingo is still quite the charmer in the looks department. He can barely see a thing, but that doesn’t stop him from maneuvering around familiar areas, enjoying a leisurely stroll outside, or cuddling up next to someone special. He adores all humans regardless of age or gender, and has no issue around other dogs. Although he hasn’t been officially cat tested, Bingo would likely be just as mellow around felines, too. Bingo is not much into toys or doggie treats, but he absolutely lovvvvves food and will bark to remind you whenever its mealtime. He needs daily eye drops for dry eye, but it’s VERY easy to administer them. Bingo doesn’t have a mean bone in his body and he lets you touch him anywhere and/or do whatever else is necessary. He’s simply grateful to be cared for, and he soaks up love like a sponge. Relaxed and easy-going, Bingo is happy to spend most of his day lounging in his dog bed or snuggling on the sofa. He is not exactly housebroken, but he easily wears a belly band without ever making a fuss, so that takes care of that! If you have a soft spot for senior dogs, Bingo is the sweetest chillest old fella you’ll ever come to know. What a gift it would be to offer this merry ‘lil muppet a safe, loving retirement home. If you would like to adopt this wonderful dog, please email rescue@pupstarzrescue.org or visit www.pupstarzrescue.org for an application! www.pupstarzrescue.org Please Follow us on Instagram: @pupstarzrescue Like us on FaceBook! www.facebook.com/PupStarzRescue PupStarz rescue cannot guarantee the breed, size, temperament, or age of any dog.

Story
BISCUIT - Shih Tzu, 8 years, 8lbs, Neutered  Thier Foster Parent Says: "Biscuit is an adorable 8-year-old who has mastered all the basic commands. He is mostly potty trained and does wonderfully on a leash. Biscuit is friendly with both people and other dogs, displaying a charming mix of independence and affection—he loves to give kisses and check in on you as you move around the house. This intelligent and gentle doggie has a fun-loving, chill personality. His favorite activities include playing with his toys solo, going on leisurely walks, nudging half-closed doors open, chewing his bones, and enjoying some belly rubs. He can show a little impatience when his humans take too much time to prepare his food or give him well-deserved treats. Biscuit is perfectly comfortable being left alone; our spy cam shows that he settles down in his bed and falls asleep soon after we leave." Level of dog ownership experience needed:FLEXIBLE: We predict this dog will be low on the challenge scale with regard to exercise and mental stimulation requirements, but seniors tend to need a lot of help and understanding when it comes to lifestyle and veterinary issues. Seniors usually need quiet, calm environments and routines and do not do well with a lot of bustle, change, and rambunctious movement (kids and young playful dogs, for instance). This dog’s adopter will need to be prepared for senior health challenges, which usually come with expensive veterinary bills and time in vet offices. Senior care can also take an emotional toll on their humans. Adopting a mature pup is a wonderful thing to do, but it can also be difficult.  Energy levelLOWER: Pretty chill indoors and won’t demand endless amounts of stimulation and exercise but still needs a few short walks a day (10-30 min each) for potty breaks and to stretch their legs Cuddle Bug LevelLower — Independent, mostly keeps to himself (may be because he's still brand new or shy, this could change)He doesn’t seem to be shy - he just enjoys his own company. He’s cool with chilling on the couch by your side and getting belly rubs he but doesn’t ask for them. Potty TrainedYes — Few or no accidentsHe’s had a few accidents in the first few days but it was mostly due to us not being familiar with his needs. Walk in the morning, quick pee at the tree around noon, walk around dinner time, and quick pee before bed is the way to go.  Comfy with strangers?Yes — Fine with meeting new people but not particularly interested, kind of shy in busy social situations like a gathering or a packed day in the park.He will acknowledge new people by kissing them and then goes on about his day. Good with Children? (ALWAYS requires supervision)Yes for all ages — very gentle, low energy, tolerant, not mouthy. We would say about 8 and up? He’s super friendly and chill but needs children who will be gentle with him. Good with Other Dogs?Yes — Good with all other dogs (sizes, breeds, etc.) as far as we know and enjoys socializing with other caninesJust like humans, he will acknowledge them and then go on about his day. Biscuit and Jeter pretty much ignore each other in the house yet are very tolerant and don’t mind the presence of the other. Good with Other Animals? (cats, small pets, etc.)We don’t know but our best guess is that he would be fine with cats. We haven’t seen any NYC wildlife yet :) This breed is pretty good with cats :)  Mouthy Behavior? Past this point in life – Little to no interest in chewing on stuff or putting things in its mouth that aren’t food. Doesn’t try to chew on hands, feet, etc. during playtime, doesn’t wreck your stuff — only chews on appropriate things like dog toys and bones.  Leash Manners?Old Pro – Seems like a dog that has been on leash before. Doesn’t pull hard or need much direction. If only Jeter could be more like Biscuit! Okay in the city?Yes — Seems unfazed by the sights and sounds, they may as well have been born here. Jumping on People to Say Hi?Low – Doesn’t jump up on people or dogs. Always all four on the floor.  Separation Anxiety? Low – Completely fine being left home alone. Doesn’t cry or do anything shitty when you leave the apartment or house. Crate training? Not at all – Don’t even have one, I’ve puppy proofed and we free range. We had set one up for him but he doesn’t go nor does he seem to need one. He prefers his bed. Medical statusHealthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm negative; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake. Adopters will need to be ready for senior care – at a minimum, that will be annual checkups including senior bloodwork and a dental post adoption (most senior rescues need one). How this dog ended up with Social Tees:Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee or St. Thomas. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives. PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses though!  This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes.
