Special Adopter Needed – Gentle, Sweet Soul with a Hard Past Fozzie is a 1 y/o, 18 lb. ShihTzu-Maltese mix who was abandoned in a rural area. He was rescued and sent to a foster home where we learned that he may have endured some abuse in his short life. This beautiful boy desperately wants to be near his human companions and will follow you around, eager to snuggle up next to you on the couch. Very affectionate and playful, he greets everyone he meets with joy (even the vet and groomer!), and loves his belly rubs and chew toys. He is fully house-trained and walks well on a leash. As a result of his prior likely mistreatment, his nervous system is a bit overwhelmed. This shows up in the way he protects himself and his things (toys/treats), and he has the ability to snap/bite if pushed past his comfort zone. *** He needs an experienced adopter who will give him time to settle in, read his body language, and teach him not to fear, but for that right person, he will be the sweetest, most loving little fellow. *** Fozzie will be best set up to succeed in a • A calm, adult-only home  • An experienced, patient adopter who understands fearful dogs • Someone who is home most of the time as he has separation anxiety when left alone • A house, not an apartment (ideally with a fenced-in yard for him to run!) because he howls when left alone With structure, boundaries, and respect, he will be a loyal, loving companion. For the right person, he will be incredibly rewarding. For the wrong situation, he will be overwhelmed and we do not want to set him - or you - up for failure. DOB 4-30-2025 DeChen is looking for his new home and Mom! He's a beautiful Shih Tzu with a good personality, loves to play and gets along with others. DeChen is complete on all medical, up to date on shots, neutered, heartworm negative and has received a ProHeart6 preventative injection. This boy will come with all his registration and medical papers. His adoption fee is 900.00, his transport fee is 165.00. Our transport is HEARTS LLC, they are the best and deliver to East Coast every other week. The first step in the adoption process is to fill out an online adoption application. You can find a copy of that application here. We sometimes receive a lot of interest on an animal and can't always reply to each email in a timely manner. An application does not obligate you to adopt from us, but it does show that you are serious about the adoption process. Please remember we are all volunteers. After you submit your application please allow a few days for a volunteer to review your application. During this time your vet reference will be checked and a volunteer with determine if it is the best match for you and the animal. Applications are not approved on a first come, first serve basis. We match up the best home for the animal, so even if the pet has other applications, this does not mean he/she will be adopted to that home. Once your application has been approved a volunteer with contact you to set up a phone interview. This is the perfect time for you to ask any questions you have about the adoption process and the animal you are interested in.

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.  Do Not Apply for a pet with PENDING in the name bar.  They have been matched with a home, but not adopted yet. Kiwi was born 5/30/25. She is sweet and sassy, a perfect little girl! She is friendly and social with everyone. She likes playing with her toys. She is great with older children. She needs work on housetraining. She is smart and catches on quickly. Adoption fee is 950.00. Thank you for choosing rescue! We are volunteers with other commitments in addition to rescue. Our time is very limited. Therefore, we request a  $20.00  donation through paypal in order to process and expedite your application. This shows that you are truly interested in adoption. Your application will remain on file for a year. Applications are available at www.eastcoasthumanesociety.com under forms/application. Donation should be made through Paypal at www.eastcoasthumanesociety.com. We are only available by phone after you have an approved application. All pets are located in the southeast. Transport is available to the NE for an additional $300.00 transport fee. We do not adopt in MA, RI due to import laws. Residents MUST pick up in CT. All dogs over 8 months will be spayed or neutered and heartworm tested. All dogs and puppies have been vaccinated,microchipped, dewormed and treated for other parasites. Please read the FAQ on our website for additional information. Adoption fees are cash or money order only. Handsome Boy-boy aka "Bobbi" is a sweet but shy shih zhu. He came in with a couple of other siblings but is especially bonded to his sister, Jasmine. They were surrendered when their owners health hindered them from being able to properly care for all of them. These two are bonded and should go home together. They lack cat experience and likely would want to be the only dogs, since they seem a bit to nervous of other dogs they have seen here that aren't from their family. This means they may be able to live with a dog-savvy cat if introduced very slowly. They are nervous around new people, but with patience have come around to some petting. They both love treats which helps reinforce that people = good. Boy-boy has been more confident than Jasmine, but only be a little bit. They did have to be shaved down from some matting here, so they are currently wearing sweaters. They will need continued regularly grooming throughout their life, so that is something to keep in mind!
