Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Terry the Terrier, or Pelli as we call him, is one of the most interesting-looking dogs we've ever seen - practically begging to be Instagram-famous! You'd certainly get your money's worth if you DNA-tested him. He's got the spunk of a Jack Russel, the devotion of a Chihuahua, and the mohawk-able hair of a punk rocker! Terry is going to make someone so happy. There will not be a single day that this little dude doesn't make you laugh out loud. Terry took a little while to settle in after his long trip north, and he is still in the process of learning about MN Nice. He fell in love with his foster mom right away, but he's not quite sure about men, and small kids are definitely not his cup of bone broth. When he feels scared he will back up into a corner and growl. Terry has already made great progress, and with time, we're sure he will blossom even more - our house is just a little too busy to be his perfect forever home. Terry is non-stop entertainment. He gets so excited to see you and jumps up and down with pure joy. He loves to give kisses and follow you wherever you go. But his favorite thing of all - BELLY RUBS! He loves to be cradled like a baby and soak up the love. If you stop, he wiggles around, flipping every which way until you just cannot stand the cuteness and resume petting him. Terry is nearly 100% potty trained and a belly band has prevented any accidents. He's not destructive and can be left out when you're not home. He's great with other dogs - even one four times his size, and while cats make him a bit nervous he's doing just fine with two of them. Overall, Terry would have zero problems transitioning to a quiet-ish, female-only home. But he may need some patience with the guys and should probably be in home without small kids. Terry is so special, truly one of a kind. Is he your missing puzzle piece?! Terry the Terrier is from Texas. One big thing you should know is they are heartworm positive - but please don’t let that scare you away from adopting them! After they undergo treatment for their condition they will be completely healthy again, and heartworm is not a contagious disease. Because they need treatment, they are available exclusively through Ruff Start’s Foster to Adopt (FTA) program. Click here to learn more about this program. They will get heartworm treatment at one of Ruff Start’s partner veterinary clinics in St. Cloud, so their foster will need to be comfortable getting them to and from the appointments. Treatment will consist of three injections: the first will be roughly 30 days after they enter rescue. Then, the second and third injections will happen 30 days after the first. When they are undergoing treatment, they should be on activity ‘restrictions’ which just means they should relax in their crate or cuddle with you. Click here to learn more about heartworm disease, which is transmitted by mosquitoes. If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract. To learn more about Ruff Start’s adoption process and the care our foster animals receive, please visit our How to Adopt page. If you are unable to adopt but want to help this animal and others in our care, you can donate to support the medical and veterinary needs of all Ruff Start Rescue animals.
