In addition to the following profile for this dog, please first read the Adoption Information at http://www.shihtzurescuemn.org/adopt.html to understand the process, requirements and timeline for adoption. An adoption application can also be found in the Adoption Info section. If, after reading that information, you have any questions, please submit your question via e-mail and it will be answered. Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you! Are you looking for a best friend? A sweet dog, that is adorable and just a little bit shy? If you are, I am your girl! My name is Daisy Mae. I am 5 years old, and weigh 8 pounds. Everyone thinks I am cute as I always wag my tail and will roll over for a tummy rub once I know you. Daisy came to our rescue after her owner passed away after a serious illness. This past year, Daisy spent all her time inside and had to rely exclusively on potty pads. Her foster mom is now frequently taking her outside for potty and Daisy is doing a well at learning to go “potty outside”. Daisy had a very sheltered but loving home before she came into rescue. Now she needs to learn to enjoy walks and outside activities, and to socialize with people and other dogs. Her future family must commit to providing time for Daisy’s outside experiences and socialization. Daisy is a bit shy at first, but as soon as she knows you all is well and she is very happy. Sitting by you on the couch or sleeping at the foot of your bed are Daisy’s favorite past times. Daisy has really benefited from having another small, calm dog in her foster home. So her foster mom is looking for a home that will give her a canine friend as a companion and to also help Daisy learn how to be a more confident dog. She needs a quiet, calm household with adults only. Daisy will be adopted to a family within the Twin Cities area, no more than 40 miles from Burnsville, MN. Daisy is a very special girl who wants a perfect home and family. In order to ensure that, here are the requirements that are required for her new family: • Daisy needs a family that is experienced with dogs and will continue to help her with training and socialization. This means time devoted to her socialization/training and learning other important doggy behaviors, such as leash walks outside, exposure to new, safe experiences, and lots of ear scratching and belly rubs. • Daisy’s new home should include another confident, small dog who will help her learn by being a role model and friend. • An adults only family that works from home or is home much of the day would be best for Daisy. • Daisy is not fully trained for going potty outside. Her new family needs to understand this and must take her out every couple hours during the day, although she can does not require this overnight. She will definitely want to sleep in bed with her new family as she loves to be near you! Daisy is not crate trained, but does just fine in a gated area when family is gone. • Daisy’s new family should live within 40 miles of Burnsville, MN and commit to attending the annual Shih Tzu Rescue Reunion held each year in September. We understand there are quite a few requirements for Daisy’s new family. But if you meet the requirements, you will have abundant joy with this beautiful girl. Daisy just had a dental, is spayed, current on vaccinations, microchipped and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. Her adoption fee is $320.00 plus $27.28 in sales tax for a total of $347.28. To meet Daisy, please complete an adoption application at the website listed in the first paragraph. Or you can also see her and the other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota by visiting with us from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon the first Saturday of every month at the Southtown PetCo in Bloomington, MN.

Story
Location; St Paul, MN Princess (who we call Cookie) had a very neglected life before falling into rescue. In fact, when she was found, her right eye was bulging out of her face, and most of her body was completely covered in the most horribly matted fur. She struggled to even walk, and seemed to be losing the will to live. But, then she was rescued. Swept away into an extensive grooming and cleaning. And a tiny little 6 pound dog emerged! Following her deep scrub, she climbed into her foster Mom’s lap, so grateful to finally have the prison of matted fur and filth lifted from her. She snuggled with me, and thanked me for helping her. In the days following, she received procedures that would change her life completely and send her on a road to health and happiness. She has had a removal of her right eye (which is healing beautifully), a dental cleaning and tooth extractions, and a spay. And you may not believe it, but after all of this, she is acting much more happy and joyous than she was before. And she is still recovering! So, you can see what a hard time she was having before. Today, She prances around with her tail up in the air wagging wildly. With one eye, no less (that doesn’t slow her down one bit!) And it is a beautiful thing. A total 180 from where she was. If there ever was a dog who deserved the best life from here on out, and the most love of all, it would be this one. She has been through so SO much, and has fought very hard to get to where she is now. She is very grateful to the people who show her love, and gives them so much affection. She loves to cuddle. She tends to bond very quickly and deeply. So, she can get typical small dog sass if another animal gets too close. She tends to lunge Instead of getting aggressive, to set boundaries with pets and people she thinks should stay back. As a small dog that has been in the wild for a long time, we can certainly understand these boundaries she expects when she is feeling unsafe. Princess is fully potty trained and has never had an accident in our home, is great on a leash (or off-leash), stays right with her people, comes when called, and is crate trained. In fact, she likes the safety of her crate and doesn’t mind being in there one bit. Whether she is sleeping in a dog bed in the kitchen, or in her crate, she does not make a peep or have an accident all night. She quietly waits for us to wake up and let her out/feed her in the morning. She is totally amenable to doing whatever you want, whether that be going on a walk, hanging around on the couch, or baking in the kitchen. She is a bit of a lazy bones and likes to lay around quite a bit. Princess is a gem, and is just waiting for the right family to come along, scoop her up, and make her dreams come true! Could you be her forever!? --------------- The best way to show interest in an animal is to submit an adoption application by visiting our website (www.rescuenetworkmn.org). Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, all age-appropriate vaccinations (distemper, rabies, and bordetella), heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, heartworm test (dogs), FIV/FeLV test (cats), dewormed, and microchip implant (including registration). Rescue Network is strictly foster based which means all adoptable animals are in a home and there cannot be a meet until an application is submitted and approved. We have no way of knowing the breeds in the animals. All breeds listed are best guess.

Story
Meet Buffy and Jack – Bonded Best FriendsBuffy (12 years old, Shih Tzu mix) and Jack (8 years old, Jack Russell Terrier mix) have spent their entire lives side by side, sharing love, naps, and quiet companionship. Sadly, their world turned upside down when their beloved owner passed away, leaving these two sweet souls feeling lost without her. Buffy and Jack are as mellow and laid-back as can be. They love leisurely walks—strolling well on a leash—and then settling in for cozy naps together. These lifelong buddies have also lived peacefully with a cat, so a feline friend wouldn’t faze them one bit. While they may carry a few extra pounds, a little exercise and healthy meals will have them feeling their best in no time. Above all, Buffy and Jack’s greatest wish is to stay together. They bring comfort to one another, and now they’re hoping to find a new family who will cherish them both. If you’re looking for an easygoing, loving pair to fill your home with warmth and companionship, Buffy and Jack are ready to meet you. They’ve lost so much but still have so much love to give. Adoption fee $350 (together) + $30 Microchip fee (each) + tax

Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you! Starla is a confident, playful, and affectionate two year old, 16 pound Maltese-Shih Tzu mix with a heart full of love to give. Starla came into our rescue via another rescue in Iowa. It is thought that she was given up because she required hip surgery due to a previous injury, possibly being hit by a car. She’s adjusting well to her new foster home and is ready to find her forever family. Starla is confident, playful, and loving. She enjoys sitting on laps and is a true cuddle bug, always seeking close contact with her humans. Sleeping in bed with her family is heaven for her. She loves playing with other dogs and can be found whining trying to get her senior foster brother to play! Starla is an active girl who loves to play and engage with her family. She enjoys running around the yard and would thrive in a home where she can get plenty of exercise and stimulation. She does well with walks but is still learning proper leash manners. A fenced yard would be ideal for her to burn off some energy. Starla is doing great with house training but there may be some accidents as she adjusts to a new home. Starla knows a few commands like sit and stand. She’s very smart and quick to learn, making her a great candidate for further training. She would benefit from some behavioral training, but she is treat-motivated and eager to please. Starla would thrive in an active home, preferably with a family who enjoys outdoor activities. She will do well in a home with children over the age of ten who have had experience interacting with a small dog. She gets along well with other dogs and would love a small canine companion who has a similar energy level. Starla recently had successful hip surgery (femoral head and neck excision) and is recovering well. While she’s already bouncing around more than she should, she requires at-home therapy to support her recovery and won’t be available for adoption until the first week in February. But applications for her adoption are being accepted now. Depending on her stage of recovery, her new family may need to continue performing some in-home therapy after adoption. These are the requirements for Starla’s new home: · Starla needs a family who can provide her with plenty of daily exercise and playtime, including long walks. A secure fenced yard would be ideal. · A family who is home much of the day and will include Starla in their daily activities. · Starla recently had hip surgery and her new family may need to continue with in-home therapy for a while after her adoption. It is imperative that her new family commit to doing so. · A family with children over the age of ten who have had experience with a small dog will be considered. · Starla would enjoy another small playful dog in the family, but it is not a deal breaker. · Starla loves to cuddle and be near her people, and sleeping in bed at night with her family members is a must. · Hew new family should live within 30 miles of Roseville, MN and be willing to attend the annual Shih Tzu Rescue reunion every September. Starla is spayed, current on vaccinations, microchipped, and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. She may need to complete at-home therapy after her adoption depending on the healing of her hip and her new family must agree to do required exercises. Her adoption fee is $420.00 plus $35.81 in sales tax, for a total cost of $455.81. To meet Starla, please complete an adoption application at the website listed in the first paragraph. Or you can also see her and the other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota by visiting with us from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon the first Saturday of every month at the Southtown PetCo in Bloomington, MN.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.  Hi, I’m Lilla! I’m an 8-year-old Shih Tzu with a heart full of sweetness and a love for life’s simple joys. At 14 pounds, I’m the perfect size to cuddle up with, and I’ll be your constant companion if you let me. One of my cutest quirks? I love carrying a toy around wherever I go—it’s like my little security blanket! I’m friendly, gentle, and great with everyone, including kids and cats. I respect the feline friends in the home and always mind my manners. I’m potty trained and can use both a potty pad and go outside. I also know how to settle in my crate, though I might give a little bark at first—I’ll quiet down quickly. I’m not a pro at leash walking just yet, so I’d love a home with a fenced yard where I can roam and do my business comfortably. I don’t need another dog in the home as long as you’re around most of the time, but I wouldn’t mind the company either. What matters most to me is having loving humans who enjoy my sweet, laid-back personality. If you’re looking for a gentle, loving companion who will brighten your days and warm your heart, I’m ready to meet you! Love, Lilla Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non-shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit. Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home.   ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there*** Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.If you have other questions about me you can email Underdog Rescue at <inquiries@underdogrescuemn.com> ADOPTION EVENTS:      Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend.  Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved. ADOPTION PROCEDURE: The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website: http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/adoptionprocess/   Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.  All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions. FOSTER CARE: All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application. NUTRITION: Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal.
