In addition to the following profile for this dog, please first read the Adoption Information at http://www.shihtzurescuemn.org/adopt.html to understand the process, requirements and timeline for adoption. An adoption application can also be found in the Adoption Info section. If, after reading that information, you have any questions, please submit your question via e-mail and it will be answered. Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you! Romeo is a 9 pound, male neutered Shih Tzu born in September, 2024 who was came to STRMN as an owner surrender. He has been SUCH a joyful addition to our rescue.
Romeo is an expert kisser and loves to be near you. He will spend the majority of his day sleeping near you, following you around, or playing with random toys, He has picked up on fetch already and is still learning how to leash walk. Cat toys are his favorite as they are tiny enough for him to pick up! He currently is fostered with a larger dog, and they do well together, although Romeo was a bit nervous at first and took a while to be comfortable with him. If there is another dog in the house it would be best if it was a small dog.
So far he has done great on car rides and although he is a bit timid around new people, he will warm up to them eventually. He is learning his name, almost has the sit command perfected and is about 90% potty-trained. He goes outside 4-6 times per day, but can easily hold it overnight. Even in the fenced in yard, you need to be outside with him and encourage him to go potty, as otherwise he will just sit outside and chew on sticks.
He eats throughout the day and we've tried a set schedule for food, but if he's not hungry, he just won't eat!
Romeo is a young, active little man who wants to be your whole word. He loves to be with you and run around with a toy at least 3 times a day. He also occasionally gets zoomies at 11pm at night before he tires himself out and plops down next to you in bed. He LOVES to snuggle right next to you in bed, so sleeping with his new family is a must. We are hoping his new family will want to include him in as many activities as possible and also make sure he has space for zoomies, as this is his preferred method of exercise in addition to walks.
Following are the requirements for Romeo's new family: * Romeo is still a young puppy. Because Shih Tzus often live 16+ years, applications will only be considered from age appropriate individuals who will be able to provide the care and activity necessary for the rest of his life.
* It is not known how Romeo will do with children, and a family without small children is preferred. Although one with children over the age of ten who have demonstrated that they know how to gently and respectfully interact with a small dog will be considered. * A family who is home much of the day and will include him in their everyday activities. He must be able to go out every four hours. * Romeo needs a family that can provide appropriate mental and physical stimulation for him. This includes daily exercise and providing training, activity and the stimulation needed for a dog of his age. Enrolling in puppy training is strongly encouraged for both Romeo and for his new family. * A secure fenced yard would be great, but is not a deal breaker as long as Romeo can have other means of outdoor activity. * Romeo could live with other pets, as long as they are smaller like him. Otherwise, he would likely
enjoy being an only dog and get your undivided attention. * Live within 40 miles of Coon Rapids, MN. * Agree to attend the annual Shih Tzu Rescue Reunion held in September each year. Romeo is neutered, current on vaccinations, microchipped, and on heartworm/flea preventative. His adoption fee is $520.00 plus $46.93, for a total of $566.93. To meet Romeo, please complete an adoption application at the website listed in the first paragraph.
