In addition to the following profile for this dog, please first read the Adoption Information at http://www.shihtzurescuemn.org/adopt.html to understand the process, requirements and timeline for adoption. An adoption application can also be found in the Adoption Info section. If, after reading that information, you have any questions, please submit your question via e-mail and it will be answered. Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you!
Peanut is a 10 pound, five year old male Shih Tzu mix who was surrendered to rescue because his owner could no longer properly care for him due to lack of time. He has been SUCH a joyful addition to our rescue.
Peanut is VERY cuddly and loves to be the center of your attention. He will spend the majority of his day cuddled up next to you or following you around. He does love to play fetch with smaller, fluffy toys and does great on a leash. While he is currently fostered with another larger dog, Peanut would probably prefer to be the only dog in your house. Mainly because if he sees you giving attention to another dog, then he will come right up and try to steal that attention to himself!
He prefers to be right by your side, does great on car rides and absolutely LOVES meeting new people. Seriously, he's never met a stranger. He has a good recall with his name, and we are working on sit and other typical commands. He currently goes outside about 4-6 times a day, and is pretty good about informing you if it's time for him to go out. He does have a tendency to mark in carpeted areas if other pets have marked there, otherwise he is pretty well housetrained. He loves his foster parents’ fenced in yard, but he wants you out there with him and you will have to encourage him to go potty some of the time!
Peanut is a younger, active little man who wants to be your whole world. He loves to be around you and play fetch at least 3 times per day. We are hoping his new family will be able to be home with him for the majority of the day and also find a family that will include him and make it a priority that he can join all activities.
- Following are the requirements for Peanut's new family: Peanut is still a young dog. Because Shih Tzus often live 16+ years, applications will only be considered from age appropriate individuals who will be able to provide the care and activity necessary for the rest of his life. A family who can be home with Peanut for much of the day for companionship and also to enable him to go outside regularly.
- Peanut is not high energy, but he still needs a family that can provide appropriate mental and physical stimulation for him. This includes daily walks and providing training, activity and the stimulation needed for a dog of his age.
- It is unknown how Peanut is with children. Applications will be considered if children are over the age of ten and have had previous experience interacting gently with a small dog. ·A secure fenced yard would be great, but is not a deal breaker as long as Peanut can have other means of outdoor activity. · Peanut could live with other pets, as long as they mostly ignored him. But he probably would prefer to be an only dog who could have your undivided attention. · Live within 40 miles of Coon Rapids, MN.
· Agree to attend the annual Shih Tzu Rescue Reunion held in September each year.
Peanut is neutered, current on vaccinations, microchipped, and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. He is scheduled to have a dental on March 17th, but applications are being accepted now for his adoption. His adoption fee is $370.00 plus $33.39 sales tax, for a total of $403.39. To meet Peanut, please complete an adoption application at the website listed in the first paragraph. Or you can also see him and the other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota by visiting with us from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon the first Saturday of every month at the Southdale PetCo in Bloomington, MN.
