Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. If interested in any of our animals for adoption, or to foster an animal, please fill out the respective application here to get the process started. Visit our FAQ webpage for commonly asked questions about our adoption/foster process. Wicket is a fun, loving little guy with a big personality. He loves to play, but also loves to snuggle. He adores other dogs and likes to chase the cat. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all animals before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the animals shoulder blades and are a permanent form of identification. The microchips are registered to Last Day Dog Rescue with the adopter's info added once adopted. If the animal is ever lost and slips his/her collar/tags the microchip allows the finder to know who to contact if scanned for a microchip. Animals MUST still have a collar with tags on at all times. Per our contract, we take all our animals back if for any reason you can't keep your adopted animal. Please understand the statements about this animal are based upon the foster home's evaluation of the animal. The animal might behave differently (negatively or positively) in your home. While the animal might be good with the current foster’s dogs, cats, children, etc., it may not be with your animal(s) or children. The animal may be housebroken or litter trained in the home of the foster but may relapse in your home. The animal is represented to the public as it performs in the foster home and any statements made regarding the animal are conditional to that foster home setting. Please understand that statements made regarding this animal are simply overviews and are not guaranteed. The Petfinder.com system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our animals. Visual breed identification in animals is unreliable so for most of the animals we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each animal as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our animals based on personality, not by breed label. Thank you for looking through our list of animals needing forever homes and choosing rescue first. We appreciate you stopping by. November 15, 2024, 9:15 am

Story
Mugsy was a stray picked up by one of our volunteers when he saw him running loose by a service drive of an expressway in Detroit. Mugsy was in poor condition when found in need of a bath and grooming as well as he needed to go to the vet. He wasn't feeling very good as his teeth were in bad shape and he needed antibiotics for an ear infection. Finally, Mugsy is now ready to find a new home. We feel a quieter home or one that has another small dog might be best. Mugsy currently gets along with most dogs but we do not know about cats or kids since his current home does not have any but probably an adult only home would be best. He enjoys frolicking outside in the fenced back yard and enjoys being close to people. Mugsy needs a person or couple that can spend time with him so he can feel love and secure and then his true personality comes out. Mugsy is a gentle soul that is doing very well adjusting to his new foster home. We believe he is about 11 years old and weighs about 15 pounds.

We do our best to provide information that will help determine if the animal might be a good fit for you. Please note that behaviors may change in a home environment. We also ask our applicants to assume that any animal they adopt from us will need to be potty-trained and learn house manners, although this is not always the case. In most cases, the listed breeds are also a best guess. Our online animal bios are designed to provide as much information as possible and answer some anticipated questions. We do not have the resources to respond to emails with more specific questions. We are receiving an unusually high number of applications at this time! Applications are reviewed as they are received, but we do not select adopters on a first-come basis. Our job is to ensure each pet is placed into the best fit home for them and that adopters are paired with an animal that is a good fit for their lifestyle. All animals will stay online until they are “pending adoption”. Therefore, if an animal is still listed, we are still accepting applications for him/her! Please do not send inquiries about a specific animal's availability as this can change quickly over the course of the day. The fastest way to get a response is to simply submit an application! We will do our best to notify you by email if the pet(s) you are interested in are no longer available. New animals are posted daily, so please let us know if another furry friend peaks your interest (there is no need to fill out a second application)! Story
MEET BEATRIX! Beatrix is a charming 7-year-old Shih Tzu/Poodle mix weighing in at just 10 lbs. This sweet and reserved girl is on the lookout for her forever home after being surrendered by her owner when they had to move. Unfortunately, their new landlord didn't allow pets, but we know that Beatrix is ready to start a new chapter in her life! Beatrix may be a bit hesitant at first, but once she warms up, you'll see her true sweet nature shine through! She absolutely loves attention from her humans and enjoys being part of the family.  Beatrix is good on a leash, making walks an enjoyable experience, however she is not a dog that would do well in a tether as she prefers to be near you. She is house trained and is familiar with crate training, but she's used to being left loose in the home. Beatrix enjoys to play and likes to have a variety of toys to keep her entertained. Beatrix does well with other small dogs and has no issues with cats. While she enjoys the company of her fellow small canine companions, larger dogs can make her a little shy, so introducing her to new friends should be done gently. She would be ideal for families with older, dog-savvy children as she came from an adult-only home. Beatrix is a gentle companion who thrives on love and connection with her people. She also enjoys car rides, making her the perfect co-pilot for your adventures! As a Shih Tzu/Poodle mix, Beatrix will require regular grooming, but she handles grooming sessions like a champ! If you're looking for a loyal companion who will bring love and joy to your home, Beatrix is waiting for you! She's ready to find a place where she can be cherished and adored! Beatrix is:Current on Rabies and DistemperDewormedHeartworm Tested: NegativeReceiving Heartworm and Flea PreventionMicrochippedScheduled for spay surgery at one of our partner veterinary offices. ADOPTION FEE: $350 IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN THIS PET, PLEASE COMPLETE THE APPROPRIATE APPLICATION FOUND ON OUR WEBSITE HTTP://FUREVERTAILS.COM. Unfortunately, at this time we are not currently adopting outside of the state of MI. Story
MEET PENNY: Age: 4 years  Weight: 16 lbs  Breed: Shih Tzu Mix   Penny arrived at the shelter in Detroit as a stray, scared and confused. Sadly, no one came to claim her, and she spent nearly a month in the shelter, misunderstood and overlooked. It was eventually discovered that Penny is missing an eye, a condition that seems to stem from a developmental issue at birth. Despite her minor flaw, Penny has adjusted remarkably well to her circumstances, proving that it is not a disability. Penny is a sweet and affectionate girl who thrives on companionship. She may be initially hesitant around new and unfamiliar faces, but she quickly warms up to those who show her kindness. Once she feels comfortable, Penny is very social and loves being close to her people. She's a true "velcro" dog who enjoys seeking out attention and affection. Right now her fur is short and shaved down due to matting, but eventually she will need regular grooming, and having an experienced and patient groomer is important. Penny would thrive in a quieter home where the environment is calm and stable. Due to her shyness, she is not suited for a household with young children. She has some fear of leashes, so she will need a physically fenced yard where she can play and explore safely. While she is house-trained and crate-trained, Penny appreciates having her own space and is tolerant of other low-energy dogs. Penny is ready to find her forever home where she can be spoiled and showered with unconditional love. She deserves a family that understands her needs and will allow her to flourish in a gentle and nurturing environment. If you're looking for a sweet, low-maintenance companion who's eager to form a special bond, Penny might just be the perfect fit!
