We do our best to provide information that will help determine if the animal might be a good fit for you. Please note that behaviors may change in a home environment. We also ask our applicants to assume that any animal they adopt from us will need to be potty-trained and learn house manners, although this is not always the case. In most cases, the listed breeds are also a best guess. Our online animal bios are designed to provide as much information as possible and answer some anticipated questions. We do not have the resources to respond to emails with more specific questions. We are receiving an unusually high number of applications at this time! Applications are reviewed as they are received, but we do not select adopters on a first-come basis. Our job is to ensure each pet is placed into the best fit home for them and that adopters are paired with an animal that is a good fit for their lifestyle. All animals will stay online until they are “pending adoption”. Therefore, if an animal is still listed, we are still accepting applications for him/her! Please do not send inquiries about a specific animal's availability as this can change quickly over the course of the day. The fastest way to get a response is to simply submit an application! We will do our best to notify you by email if the pet(s) you are interested in are no longer available. New animals are posted daily, so please let us know if another furry friend peaks your interest (there is no need to fill out a second application)! Fill out the application (DOG:https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=dr1937&method=online_form_html&formid=44, CAT: https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=dr1937&method=online_form_html&formid=41, EXOTICS: https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=dr1937&method=online_form_html&formid=46) completely. Every question must be answered, and it must be signed.-Applicants must be 21+ years old and live within a 50-mile radius of our shelter at 22415 Groesbeck Hwy, Warren 48089.-You must identify at least 1 animal that you are interested in.Once your application is received, it will be assigned to one of our volunteer Adoption Counselors who will follow-up with the applicant who is the best fit within a few days, or to discuss other options. It could take up to a couple of weeks for you to receive a final disposition on your application so there is no need to check on the status.-Introductions will be scheduled by appointment only, 30 minutes per appointment. The entire household, including current dogs, must be present for the appointment. (Note: Please do not bring your dogs if you are meeting cats!). The introductions will take place outside in our parking lot (or in our cat room if you're meeting cats).-We will perform vet checks for current and prior pets in the household.-Finalizing the adoption will also be scheduled by appointment.Thank you for your understanding.

Story
Fifi is just darling and those big, sweet eyes... She is estimated to be about a year old and weighs only 9 pounds. Fifi is a young girl with a quiet and sweet personality. She is a little apprehensive with new people picking her up, but she is very social and likes visiting everyone. She is a lap dog at heart and wants nothing more than to be close to you. Fifi would be an excellent companion for someone who is looking for a snuggle bug. What a happy little thing she is too, she is sure to bring lots of love and joy to her new forever home. Fifi will need a home where any children are at least 8 years old with her quiet personality. If you are interested in Fifi and are at least 21 years old, please come to our kennel during business hours, make an appointment, or fill out an application at k9stray.com and an adoption counselor will be in touch. We look forward to helping you find your new best friend! *Please check your lease agreements for breed/weight restrictions prior to applying. We also do not do cat testing, so we do not know how a dog will do with cats. Not all dogs are available to go home on the same day you first meet.*

Story
Herman is a 20lb pup who is in need of a forever home. We believe him to be a Shih Tzu mix around 1-2 years old. He’s a man with insecurities and can be fear-reactive, unfortunately that led him to be returned to us due to previous owners not understanding how to help guide him. However, with desensitization and counter-conditioning in his foster home paired with an anti-anxiety medication, Herman is learning how to safely navigate the world and is ready for a permanent home to thrive! Herman stats - 🐸Herman is very insecure. Understandable for a little boy who has had a inconsistent life! He needs a supportive, understanding owner who can help him explore new things. He’s been doing well in his foster home using fear-free desensitization and counter-conditioning to introduce him to the world around him. 🐸His favorite pastimes include playing with stuffed toys, eating & following his foster mom around. He enjoys keeping a regular routine and will often remind you when it’s meal time, walk time, or time for his bedtime treat! 🐸Herman sees his caregiver as his sun & moon- he's incredibly affectionate and loving to his person, it's very sweet and hard to resist his sweet face! He's a bit of a velcro-dog and will follow you everywhere. 🐸Herman is very sensitive to handling and is touchy about his boundaries. His new owner needs to seek a fear-free groomer and vet who are willing to work with him, without over-stressing him. He is currently on an anti-anxiety medication, which we recommend his new owner keeping up on. 🐸Herman is enthusiastic, playful & quite food motivated. This means he’s incredibly trainable! He already knows sit, down, dance, and roll over. 🐸Herman does enjoy the company of other dogs, however, he’s like a sponge and soaks up all the traits of the pups around him regularly. A calmer dog around his size would be best for him. 🐸No kids or cats. 🐸Shih Tzu’s are known for their loveable, quirky personalities, but can also be stubborn, demanding & unwilling to cooperate at times. If you love the Shih traits you will love Herman! ***Interested in ADOPTING??*** Fill out an application by emailing us for an app or using the template on our website- 🍄 Canineliberationleague@gmail.com 🍄 www.Canineliberationleague.com Herman is neutered, microchipped and is current on all vaccines including Rabies, DHPP, Lepto and Bordetella. He has also been heartworm & fecal tested. LOCATION - South Lyon, MI PLEASE SHARE to help HERMAN!

Story
Hi my name is Sugar Bear! I am a shy kind of dog who is looking for a patient owner who is willing to give me time to adjust and open up in my new home. I will seek comfort from my favorite people while I work on my confidence. I can be rather shy so I would prefer a quieter home without younger children. If you give me a chance, you could be just the person I am looking for, and I could be the dog to make you feel complete! I am part of a “Perfect Pair”, that means I am bonded with another animal and we must be adopted together! “Perfect Pairs” have special adoption fees which make it easier for families to make a commitment to the pair.I am currently under the care of the shelter medical team at HSHV. If you would like to learn more about me, please reach out to the Adoption Desk at (734) 662-5585.

Story
Meet Sir Louis and Foxy Roxy – A Bonded Pair of Golden Hearts Looking for a Forever Home Louis, a shih tzu mix (16yrs old, 10lbs) and Roxy, a jack russel mix (12 yrs old, 17lbs) are the sweetest senior duo you’ll ever meet. Although they were neglected and left at a shelter after their owners passed they still have so much love to give. These two have spent their entire lives together, and their bond is unbreakable – where one goes, the other follows, tails wagging and hearts full. They’re both house-trained, great with other dogs, and simply adore human companionship. Senior life suits them just fine – they enjoy the quiet moments, the warm beds, and most of all a safe human companion. Louis and Roxy are looking for a soft place to land – a home that will cherish them in their golden years and keep them together forever. They don’t need much – just love, stability, and a family who sees the magic in giving seniors a second chance. If you’re ready to open your heart and home to this amazing pair, please reach out. Louis and Roxy are waiting patiently for their happily ever after – and they promise to fill your life with more love than you can imagine. Adopt Louis and Roxy at underdogrescueranch.com/adopt

Story
Emmie Emmie is a Female Shih Tzu mix DOB: April of 2023 Adoption fee: $250.00 I am new to the shelter. I am a little anxious in my new environment but have been making friends with the staff quickly. I can be selective with people, so I am not fit for a first-time pet owner, and I would be much more comfortable with children over the age of 12 years. I am energetic and not fit for someone wanting a lap dog. I love to run and play with my friend Sophie. I have met other dogs, but I have shown I’d like to be the top dog. A meet and greet is required prior to adoption, there are no guarantees. I may require a physically fenced yard, pending previous experience, location, and other plans for containment. I love attention. I can be very demanding about it. I will need a person, couple or family dedicated to helping me understand what behaviors are appropriate and which ones are not.
