Story
MEET PENNY:  Age: 4 years  Weight: 16 lbs  Breed: Shih Tzu Mix   Penny arrived at the shelter in Detroit as a stray, scared and confused. Sadly, no one came to claim her, and she spent nearly a month in the shelter, misunderstood and overlooked. It was eventually discovered that Penny is missing an eye, a condition that seems to stem from a developmental issue at birth. Despite her minor flaw, Penny has adjusted remarkably well to her circumstances, proving that it is not a disability. Penny is a sweet and affectionate girl who thrives on companionship. She may be initially hesitant around new and unfamiliar faces, but she quickly warms up to those who show her kindness. Once she feels comfortable, Penny is very social and loves being close to her people. She's a true "velcro" dog who enjoys seeking out attention and affection. Right now her fur is short and shaved down due to matting, but eventually she will need regular grooming, and having an experienced and patient groomer is important. Penny would thrive in a quieter home where the environment is calm and stable. Due to her shyness, she is not suited for a household with young children. She has some fear of leashes, so she will need a physically fenced yard where she can play and explore safely. While she is house-trained and crate-trained, Penny appreciates having her own space and is tolerant of other low-energy dogs. Penny is ready to find her forever home where she can be spoiled and showered with unconditional love. She deserves a family that understands her needs and will allow her to flourish in a gentle and nurturing environment. If you're looking for a sweet, low-maintenance companion who's eager to form a special bond, Penny might just be the perfect fit! Story
MEET MAPLE: Breed: Shih Tzu/Poodle MixDate of Birth: October 14, 2024 Meet Maple, an adorable Shih Tzu/Poodle mix puppy with a heart full of love and a playful spirit! Born on October 14, Molasses is part of a delightful litter along with her brothers Molasses and Mousse. This precious girl is socialized with other dogs, cats, and older children, making her a perfect addition to any family looking for a friendly and charming companion. Maple is a typical, lively puppy who is learning the world around her. She is cute as a button, affectionate, and always ready for playful antics that are sure to bring smiles and laughter to your home. Being a Shih Tzu/Poodle mix, Maple will require regular grooming to keep her beautiful coat healthy and looking its best. These pups are not suited for a terher system, as they thrive on companionship and interaction. A loving family that can provide plenty of attention and playtime will make Maple the happiest puppy! Maple is looking for a forever home filled with love, playfulness, and care. At a young and delicate age, pups should be monitored around young children and larger dogs. She is so small and can be a tripping hazard. It is important that someone is home more often than not in this young age to promote house training and socialization. As typical puppies, they are full of energy and prone to chewing. Crate training may result in some sleepless nights initially. Puppies may also not be a good fit for older canine friends due to their excitable puppy energy. We are looking for a patient and active family who is willing to invest the time and effort required to train this puppy.  Puppies will remain in foster-to-adopt status with their new families until their spay/neuter surgery has been completed at 6 months (April 2025) of age at one of our partner Veterinary offices (Chesterfield, Clawson, Clinton Twp, Sterling Heights, or Rochester), which is included in the adoption fee and is non-negotiable. Maple is:Current on age appropriate vaccines DewormedHeartworm Tested: NegativeReceiving Heartworm and Flea/tick PreventionMicrochippedWill be scheduled to be spayed at our partner Veterinary office at 6 months of age (included in the adoption fee). We do our best to provide information that will help determine if the animal might be a good fit for you. Please note that behaviors may change in a home environment. We also ask our applicants to assume that any animal they adopt from us will need to be potty-trained and learn house manners, although this is not always the case. In most cases, the listed breeds are also a best guess. Our online animal bios are designed to provide as much information as possible and answer some anticipated questions. We do not have the resources to respond to emails with more specific questions. We are receiving an unusually high number of applications at this time! Applications are reviewed as they are received, but we do not select adopters on a first-come basis. Our job is to ensure each pet is placed into the best fit home for them and that adopters are paired with an animal that is a good fit for their lifestyle. All animals will stay online until they are “pending adoption”. Therefore, if an animal is still listed, we are still accepting applications for him/her! Please do not send inquiries about a specific animal's availability as this can change quickly over the course of the day. The fastest way to get a response is to simply submit an application! We will do our best to notify you by email if the pet(s) you are interested in are no longer available. New animals are posted daily, so please let us know if another furry friend peaks your interest (there is no need to fill out a second application)! Fill out the application (DOG:https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=dr1937&method=online_form_html&formid=44, CAT: https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=dr1937&method=online_form_html&formid=41, EXOTICS: https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=dr1937&method=online_form_html&formid=46) completely. It could take up to a couple of weeks for you to receive a final disposition on your application so there is no need to check on the status.-Introductions will be scheduled by appointment only, 30 minutes per appointment. The entire household, including current dogs, must be present for the appointment. (Note: Please do not bring your dogs if you are meeting cats!).
