Story
Meet Drax!He may look a bit mop-like at the moment, but stay tuned because he’s getting groomed tomorrow and we can’t wait to share his glow-up! Drax is about 2 years old and weighs 16 pounds and looks like a Lhasa Apso. He’s a super happy go lucky guy who dances around with excitement any time he gets to meet a person! He’s energetic and loves to run around. He does well playing with the dogs in the yard during play time!IMPORTANT: Please read all below, especially if you live outside of Texas, which is where our rescue is located.Apply to adopt on our website: https://www.charmingpetrescue.org/adoptAll of our animals are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up to date on shots.ALL of our animals are located in Boerne, TX, but transport after adoption is available to other states for a $300 fee for dogs or an additional fee varying by location for cats. If you are seeing our pets posted in your state, that's because you live near a transport stop, they are not currently at that location. Petfinder lists our pets as 'Out of Town' pets at other locations, and Adopt-a-Pet lists our location as a Transport stop. Those are currently the only options they offer to make this clear, so we put this description we've put at the bottom to explain it. You can read more about transport here: www.charmingpetrescue.org/transportWe understand transport is not an option for everyone, but we offer it at the cost we pay the transport company for those who wish to adopt from us.April 24, 2025, 3:42 pm

Story
Meet Bunsen! This adorable little Shih Tzu is about 9 years old and weighs just 9 pounds. He’s not a koala, he just has the biggest eyes you’ll ever see! Bunsen came to us in rough shape after being found as a stray, but after a good grooming and a month of love in his foster home, he’s ready to find his forever family.Bunsen is the definition of a cuddly companion. He lives for butt scratches, tummy rubs, and cozy snuggles. Though he’s hard of hearing and has limited vision, he gets around just fine and is full of love to give. He’s gentle with cats, great with other dogs, and does well with kind, respectful kids. He’s mostly house trained with the help of a belly band and will even let you know when he needs to go outside. With a consistent schedule and a little patience, we think he could eventually leave the belly band behind altogether.Bunsen is a bit of a picky eater, so he’ll need someone who’s willing to be understanding and flexible at mealtime. But for the right person, this little guy will be an incredibly sweet and loyal companion.IMPORTANT: Please read all below, especially if you live outside of Texas, which is where our rescue is located.Apply to adopt on our website: https://www.charmingpetrescue.org/adoptAll of our animals are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up to date on shots.ALL of our animals are located in Boerne, TX, but transport after adoption is available to other states for a $300 fee for dogs or an additional fee varying by location for cats. Story
I'm a Blue-Tzu Heeler. My momma was a small Blue Heeler and my daddy was a Shih Tzu. What a sight that love affair that must have been! Our litter are known as the Tasty Troupe at the Humane Society. We serve up playful personalities with every wag and wiggle. We have a lot of energy and are known to be great companions. We will be on the smaller side. We are 4 pounders (without the cheese) right now. Select your favorite (Wendy, Freddy, Brenda, Curly Q, Bell, Arby, Boone or Smith) and you'll have the perfect lunch and pup! If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2371202##
