Story
When we first spotted this little 5-year-old Shih Tzu, we assumed he was just a neighborhood pup, enjoying a snack from our feral cat colony's feeding station. But as the days turned into weeks, his increasingly matted fur and unkempt appearance told a different story—he was alone, and he needed help. Our hearts broke as we watched him grow more disheveled, and we knew we had to step in. With patience and care, we were able to humanely trap him and bring him to safety. Once he arrived at the sanctuary, he was gently groomed to remove the painful mats, revealing the sweet soul underneath. Since then, he has been taking his time to decompress, learning that he’s finally safe. He’s a very shy boy, but we know there’s a world of potential in him. To help build his confidence and teach him the joys of being loved and cared for, he’s set to attend a 5-week board and train program. We’re so excited to see this amazing little guy blossom. For perhaps the first time in his life, he’s on the path to finding a real family—one that will cherish him, keep him safe, and help him thrive. If you’re ready to open your heart to a boy who deserves the world, he’ll be ready and waiting for you. If you think you could be the loving home that Booger deserves, please submit an adoption application through our website at skysanctuaryrescue.org/applications. Once we receive your application, we’ll be happy to answer any questions and set up a meet and greet.

Story
Clyde is a sweet 10 year old Shih Tzu.boy who lost his home because after having him 10 years, his owners decided he is not good around their kids. He did not deserve to be given up on just because he is aging. Additionally they allowed him to become very overweight which could definitely contribute to his sometimes grumpy mood. We have not observed any bad behavior here at the rescue. He is really a nice dog, easy to have around and not at all demanding. He is in good health, fully vetted and ready for a new home and a Weight Watchers membership. It is imperative that his new Adopter keeps him on a diet to help him reduce his weight. He's clearly not comfortable how he is. He would love the yard to run around in as well as to bask in the sun. He may need some forced walking to help with retrieving the waistline he once enjoyed. according to his former owners, Clyde is housetrained. Clyde is a coated dog (hair grows continuously) and will require brushing and professional grooming every 6-8 weeks. Clydes's Adoption fee is $275 This fee includes at least one health exam at our veterinarian while in our care, altering, all vaccinations including rabies (as permitted by age), a pre-adoption professional grooming and a microchip with lifetime membership that never will cost you a fee. All dogs also leave with a new collar and or harness and leash as well as a gift bag which includes among other things, a starter bag of the quality kibble that is being fed at the rescue. Adoption fees also allow us the ability to put funds towards the next homeless or unwanted dog in need of rescue! If you would like to be considered to for this adoption or any of our amazing rescues, please fill out the application with the help of this link. https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/AZST/Dog. Please understand that sometimes we get numerous applications for specific dogs and as a volunteer-based rescue, we do not always have the time to respond to each one. We do our best to choose the most suitable home for each dog based on their specific personality and needs. Please note you MAY NOT be contacted for up to 10 days to schedule a meet and greet if your family is the most suitable for this rescue dog. Regrettably, we do not have the manpower currently to contact all applicants. We keep ALL applications in our database so please feel free to contact us when you see another dog of interest. Story
Lulu is a cute 6 year old Shih Tzu girl who is laid back and loving.. She is confident and seems friendly with all people she has met. She gets along fairly well with the dogs at the rescue but we feel she would do best as an only dog in an adult home. She walks well on a leash and does well in the car. She is gold and white and weighs approximately 18 lbs but is on the heavy side and could afford to lose a few pounds. Lulu has occasional accidents in the house so she will need close observation and some reinforcement with her training. She loves to play with toys and chew on her bones and treats. Lulu is a coated dog (hair grows continuously) and will require brushing and professional grooming every 6-8 weeks. Lulu's adoption fee is $375 This fee includes at least one health exam at our veterinarian while in our care, altering, all vaccinations including rabies (as permitted by age), a pre-adoption professional grooming and a microchip with lifetime membership that never will cost you a fee. Story
Neo is a handsome black-and-white Shih Tzu who was Surrendered by his owners because they no longer have time for him. He is eight years old and he would love to be the only dog in the household. He has never live with other dogs, and at the Rescue he is not very happy being around all the other dogs. He is a sweet boy, however, and he loves his people, and is very loyal. Like many of our rescued dogs we are not sure how well house trained Neo is. But with gentle persuasion, some consistency, structure and praise he should be easy to train. He is very eager to please. Neo is a coated dog (hair grows continuously) and will need professional grooming every 6-8 weeks. Neo's adoption fee is $325 This fee includes at least one health exam at our veterinarian while in our care, altering, all vaccinations including rabies (as permitted by age), a pre-adoption professional grooming and a microchip with lifetime membership that never will cost you a fee. Story
Lane came to us as a stray dog. While he most certainly had a home, we were unable to find his owners. He was not in the best condition and suffered from neglect but surely he was loved as he is so loving to people. He greets you up on two legs happily bouncing to announce his joy of your arrival. He responds gregariously to your happy voice and encouragement. Lane also feels better now as he had his horribly rotten teeth cleaned and extracted as needed. Lane is estimated to be 10 years old and while his clouded eyes make him look older, his jubilant personality makes him seem much younger. Lane deserves a home where he will be so loved and well cared for. He is a very slight guy weighing about 9 lbs and an absolute peach on the grooming table. We will certainly miss this exhuberant dog when he leaves us but we know he will bring his new owners as much joy as we hope they have to offer him. Like many of our rescue dogs, we are not sure how well house trained Lane is. But with gentle persuasion, some consistency, structure and praise he should be easy to train. Lane is a coated dog (hair grows continuously) and will need professional grooming every 6-8 weeks. Story
Domino is one of 13 dogs who came to us after the owner became terminally ill and went into hospice care. The owner was devastated to give them up. Domino is a beautiful black and white Shih Tzu girl. Initially we thought it is important that she lives with another dog since she has never been alone but she is so flexible and easy going we believe she will be happy anywhere. Domino is friendly and not a big barker. She walks on a leash well and loves attention. She gets along with most other dogs and all people, but she's never been around small children or cats. Domino weighs about 12 pounds and is 10 years old. She would love a yard to romp around in, and a cool house to rest in. If you have never adopted a senior dog, you are missing out. It is one of the most rewarding experiences you will ever have! Domino is “somewhat” pad trained but NOT thoroughly house trained. She will need some patience and consistency to help her with this. Domino is a coated dog (hair grows continuously) and will require brushing and professional grooming every 6-8 weeks. Domino 's Adoption fee is $275 This fee includes at least one health exam at our veterinarian while in our care, altering, all vaccinations including rabies (as permitted by age), a pre-adoption professional grooming and a microchip with lifetime membership that never will cost you a fee.
