Story
Say HI to Zeus! This beautiful baby boy is approximately 8 months old and is going to become a magnificent companion and best friend to a very special family. Not only is he stunningly handsome, he is curious and very puppy like. His smile is absolutely contagious. Zeus is a little skittish at first meeting new people, but he is highly treat/food motivated and comes around quickly. If you give him a good back scratching, he will be your buddy for life. He enjoys hugs and kisses, running around the backyard playing with dogs and humans alike. He follows people around the house, looking for a pickup game of ball or rolling around looking for back scratches.  He is the perfect size/weight for a male shiba and is a beautiful cream color. Due to his prior apartment life, he does not go down stairs currently. He learned to go upstairs quickly but going down is a bit of a challenge. It should click any day now if the weather cooperates, as he is wicked smart. Leash training will begin shortly as he is not used to being on one.  Zeus is in need of a family that understands he is still a puppy - when excited he jumps up on people, we are working on this, but he should grow out of it. A household with small kids needs to know that they might trip over him or he might knock them down. Not a deal breaker at all, but a consideration.  He is very confident and silly. He LOVES toys, heavy chewer toys - might outgrow the need for them in the future once he gets older. A fenced in back yard is a must and the fence must be in great condition; NO loose boards or room for him to squeeze under/through the fence. He is so smart, he will figure out weaknesses and will use it to his advantage to roam. He definitely needs some mental stimulation to keep him busy and happy. Due to his playfullness, he will more than likely irritate an older dog, so having an adult dog or younger would be the idealHe could do just fine as an only dog but will need a lot more human interaction. I think he would prefer people over another dog, as he really loves the attention he gets. Zeus is very excited about cats, and would do go with one IF that cat loves to play and be chased. Otherwise, he would terrorize a cat who wants to be left alone. He enjoys playing with small dogs, but is a bit rambunctous and gets carried away. Would not recommend small dogs under 5lbs. He is very vigilant in paying attention to what is going on in the world, so living in another apartment is NOT in the cards for this sweet baby. He is not annoyingly barking all day though, only if he senses someone near the house.  He is learning what is and what is NOT acceptable to chew on, and leaving him free roam while gone is not a good idea, at least until he gets a bit older. A crate or pen would be suggested until then. Additionally, he rarely gets up on the furniture but when he does, it is to be near someone.  It is highly suggested that his future family is familiar with the breed, they are known as the 'cat' of the dogworld and do have some quirks about them. That being said, Zeus is a sweet boy who wants to be loved, with so much love and loyalty to give. The suggested adoption donation for Zeus is $415, which includes a lifetime of free relationship-based training for any behavioral problems (not obedience training).  Muddy Paws is a 501c3 non-profit organization meaning that part of your donation MAY be TAX DEDUCTIBLE. We are a 100% volunteer rescue committed to giving animals a second chance at life. All donations go toward that mission. Adoption fees are the primary source of funding for the cost of veterinary care for our animals. In 2022 alone, we provided animal Healthcare totaling over $399,000 covered mainly through adoption fees. Information about the adoption process: All adoptions require a completed ADOPTION APPLICATION. Once your application has completed our prescreen steps, we will put you in touch with the animal’s foster to see if you and the pet are a good match. If so, we will arrange a meeting for you and the animal. The adoptions for all of our animals will take place in the Omaha, NE area and must be done by the adoptive family in person. We do not ship or deliver. Please Note: We are a RESCUE, which is different from a shelter. We conduct veterinary and personal reference checks, and a Home Visit (Virtual in some cases) during the application approval process. We always select the right applicant for each animal, based on the animal’s needs. If you and the animal are not a good match, we will help you select another animal, or we will keep your approved application on file for 6 months.
