Story
Meet Athena — a wise and wonderful senior lady with a heart of gold. Athena is a gorgeous red German Shepherd–Pitbull mix who has perfected the art of taking life at a gentle pace. She’s friendly with other dogs and enjoys the company of calm, respectful canine friends. While she’s not looking for a high-energy household or constant activity, she does appreciate the occasional playdate to keep things fun. Athena would thrive in a mellow, predictable home where she can relax, feel safe, and enjoy the quieter side of life. She’s a sweetheart with people and has that lovely senior soul that just wants to be near her family. Because of her strong preferences, Athena needs a home without cats or small animals. If you’re looking for a loyal companion who is past the chaos and ready for comfort, Athena might be your perfect match. Let her spend her golden years being cherished — she absolutely deserves it. Since many of our adoptable dogs are in foster homes, appointments are highly recommended to ensure the animal you are interested in is currently at the shelter. Please call or e-mail the shelter to set up an appointment to meet and adopt! Our adoption fees include the following: all of our dogs/puppies are current on vaccinations (DHPP and Rabies if over 3 months of age) at the point of adoption, dewormed, heartworm tested and current on preventative, microchipped, treated for fleas/ticks and are spayed or neutered. Our large dog adoption fee is generally $175 + tax. Our small dog and puppy adoption fee is generally $300+ tax. Adoption fees may vary in special circumstances. Due to space limitations, we do not hold dogs. Because we are on a busy street, we require that all dogs leaving the shelter be in a carrier or on leash. All pets remain up for adoption until an approved application is processed and their adoption fee paid.

Story
Meet Thor—an 80-pound, 6-year-old black and tan German Shepherd with a strong presence and an even stronger sense of who he is. Thor is the kind of dog who enjoys companionship on his own terms. He’s a bit independent, but he truly shines when he’s out on walks, taking in the world at his own pace. If you’re someone who enjoys a steady walking partner without the constant need for attention, Thor might be your perfect match. He already knows “sit” and “focus on me,” and he’s been working on his harness manners, making progress each day. Thor also keeps his kennel clean, which is a great sign that he may transition well into a home routine. Thor would do best as the only pet in the home—he likes having his space and being your one-and-only. He could do well with older kids who understand how to respect his boundaries and independence. If you’re looking for a loyal, low-key but silly companion who values both his independence and his daily adventures, Thor is ready to walk right into your life Since many of our adoptable dogs are in foster homes, appointments are highly recommended to ensure the animal you are interested in is currently at the shelter. Story
Red is a handsome 11-year-old German Shepherd of pure loyalty and heart. A true gentleman in his golden years, Red lives for his ball—toss it once and you’ve got his full attention and a happy tail to match. He’s also very snack-motivated, which makes him a joy to engage with and a great candidate for gentle enrichment and continued learning. Red really shines when he has a steady, predictable routine. Knowing what to expect helps him feel secure and confident, and he thrives when his days are filled with familiar walks, playtime, and well-earned rest. He’s the kind of dog who appreciates the simple things: consistency, companionship, and a good treat after a job well done. If you’re looking for a loyal, ball-loving companion who’s ready to enjoy his golden years with grace (and snacks), Red is your guy. With proper introductions, Red would possibly be a good fit with other dogs. Because the shelter environment isn’t ideal for fully assessing behavior, we aren’t able to accurately determine how Red would do with other dogs, cats, or children. A quieter home with patient adopters who are willing to go at his pace would suit him best. If you’re looking for a loyal companion with an old-soul personality, a love of routine, and just the right amount of grumpy charm, Red may be your perfect match.
