Story
6yo, 40lb Hobbs is a sweet little guy. He was a rescue that has done well in our household for years until the recent arrival of our baby. The transition has not gone well and he deserves to have a home where he can receive the love and attention he needs. He does well with routine and a job to do, fetch is his favorite, has no prey drive, crated at night but will sleep whether door is open or closed, walks well on a leash, indifferent to other dogs in passing, house trained but needs structure. Very smart, very trainable. Would not do well in a home with babies/toddlers Important - Experience with working dogs will serve you well - the maintenance of these types of breeds is unlike most others and it is important that negative reinforcement to control behavior is not used.

Meet Rocco! This sweet 1 year old pup is ready for his happily ever after! Rocco was found wondering the streets a few months ago and taken in by one of our volunteers. He has since completed the training program and is looking for his forever family! Rocco would thrive in an active home that will keep him exercised! Being a young Shepherd mix he would not thrive as a couch potato. His favorite thing ever is playing ball! He could do that for hours! This guy is good with other dogs, great with older, active kids and would love to join your family! Rocco is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and HW negative. He is leash trained, potty trained and does well in a crate! If you are interested in Rocco please visit our website and complete an adoption application! https://www.prodogsohio.org/adoptables His adoption fee has been sponsored !! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We appreciate your support, in order to help us continue to rescue dogs! Sassy is currently at county pound but we will pull her if we can find a foster.Sassy and 8 other dogs were taken from abusive owners. Prior to being seized, Sassy lived indoors and never went outside. We have a volunteer who has gone to the shelter and has taken Sassy for walks and reports that Sassy is a wonderful dog! She is good on a leash and loves belly rubs.Sassy needs to be on a strong leash at all times. She gets spooked easily (remember, all of this is new to her) by cars, loud noises, etc.Sassy is approximately 40 pounds. She has been spayed. Sassy lived with dozens of cats prior to being seized and taken to the shelter.Apply to foster Sassy and help her learn to trust people and gain confidence at ricopetrecovery.org

Meet Iris and check out her amazing transformation from starved and scared to confident and stunning! This beautiful happy gal was found In very rough shape. She weighed in at 42 lbs and pretty much hairless. Iris spent the last 6 months getting healthy.Iris was on a very strict diet to help her gain weight in healthy increments with some crate rest. Her foster family has spent a lot of time helping her learn to be a loved dog and live her best healthy life. Iris is a special dog, she gets along with all the dogs in her foster home and loves to play. Her favorite friend is her foster dog sister Evie who is also a German shepherd. She loves kids and takes treats so gently. Iris has a tendency to jump on people for a big German Shepherd hug. She would do best in a home with Breed experience. Iris would love a fenced yard so she can run free and the fence needs to be 6 ft tall. She doesnt love being left alone. You never have to worry about Iris getting into anything because she wants to be right by your side. Iris is a true survivor with a heart of pure gold. She is about 3 yrs old. You can apply to meet her at ricopetrecovery.org. Adoption fee is $250

Story
Say hello to DINO! This bundle of joy came into the rescue and stole everyone’s heart immediately. His kind endearing eyes will make your heart melt. Dino was a puppy that was found by a wonderful person at the person’s place of employment. He fed Dino daily and allowed him to sleep in his car on his lunch breaks. Dino remained loyal and stayed around the place of work until they reached out for help from the rescue. To this day he loves cars and feels very safe from the outside cruel world inside of one. Dino has now been placed in a loving foster home and is learning to play wonderful with the foster’s big dogs and puppies that are fostering with him half his size. Dino is doing great in a crate and potty training. This guy catches on really quick. He is so appreciative of having a safe environment to thrive. He will lay on you or keep his head in your lap forever if you will allow. Personality: Dino is goofy, energetic, and playful! He does well with correction. Dino would be great in a home with another dog to keep showing the ropes of puppy life. He is soooooo ready to be your new best friend and would love a home where he can grow to be a wonderful life long family companion. Once adopted Dino will travel via the Rescue Transport to his new family. They travel each weekend from Memphis, Tennessee to the northeast, delivering pups along the way as far north as West Greenwich, Rhode Island. Transport is an additional $185. Story
Meet DIXIE! 🐾 This adorable girl is just the perfect package!! Dixie found herself, through no fault of her own, in a rural shelter that keep most of their pups outside under tarps and with hay in the winter. One look at that face and we scooped her right up. We were shocked to find out how sweet, loving and gentle this adorable doll was. This amazing girl just loves life and hanging out with her people and dog buddies. She is the first to welcome you home and last to leave your side. She has the perfect energy one is looking for in a dog. Dixie is approximately 5 months and practically out of all those time consuming puppy stages. 💖 Personality: Goofy, playful and energetic. Dixie has a wonderful temperament and gets along great with her foster mates. She is super smart and a fast learner. She will be up for learning any new tricks you might want to throw her way. She is fostering in a home in Memphis, TN and her foster mom would love to tell you all about her. Dixie is going to be great family companion and she is ready to be your new best friend! If you’re ready to give DIXIE a lifetime of belly rubs, treats, and a cozy bed, please reach out! Let’s find this sweet pup the forever home she soooo deserves. 🐶💕 Once adopted she will travel via the Rescue Transport to her new family. They travel each and every weekend from Memphis, Tennessee to the north east, delivering pups along the way as far north as West Greenwich, Rhode Island. Transport is an additional $185. Story
We adopted Cole from the Delaware County animal shelter in January, 2024. He is now 17 months. Neutered and shots up to date. He is house trained. We tried crate training but he managed to escape. He is happy to room free while we are gone which has been up to five hours. He lies by the door waiting for our return. Knock on wood, he has not gotten into trouble while we are out. He loves tug-a-war and will bring you toys to throw but does not always want to release them. Cole is high energy and would benefit from a fenced yard which we do not have. Very reactive on walks but is getting better. He is a quiet husky. Barks when he needs to go out. Rarely barks on walks and has not barked at dogs or critters he sees through the windows. The shelter said he does not get along with cats. We have not tested this. Coles sleeps from 7pm to 6am. He does stay in our bedroom but leaves us alone. Cole is very sweet and well mannered. Our mistake was overestimating our energy levels.

Adopting a Shepsky

Frequently asked questions about acquiring an Shepsky - the pros and cons of adopting versus going through a breeder, and associated costs.

The cost of adopting a Shepsky mix through a shelter is much lower than buying one from a breeder. The average rescue adoption fee for a Shepsky is around $200, which covers the expenses of caring for the dog before adoption. Buying a German Shepherd / Husky puppy from a reputable breeder can cost $500 to $1,000. Of course, we’d love for you to go the adoption route. If you are set on a certain breed, please also consider breed-specific rescues.

You can start by doing a breed search on Adopt a Pet. The search will show you all the available Shepskies in your area.

Shepsky fun facts

Fun Facts:
